There might be some who grew up hearing Bud Collyer's voice in the Fleischer shorts and in the Filmation series from the 60's. Many of us here grew up on Danny Dark voicing Supes in the various incarnations of Superfriends. Some of us may vaguely remember Beau Weaver in the '88 Ruby-Spears series. There are those who grew up on Tim Daly and/or George Newbern in the Timm/Dini universe. There are some who are growing up on Yuri Lowenthal on Legion of Super Heroes (yes, I'm including him, too.)

Here is the place to vote for your choice for the best actor to voice Superman.

EDIT: Forgot about Adam Baldwin, for those who have seen Superman/Doomsday. Sorry.

Tim Daly and George Newbern are the best Superman VA's for me. If I had to choose one, it would be Newbern by very slight margin. I don't even know why really. There's just a more...youthful essence in his voice that I guess appeals to me more than Tim's. But they're both awesome.

To me, Tim Daly is the definitive Superman. His performances on STAS made such an impression on me, and really influenced my appreciation of the character. He will always be the best Superman VA to me. I never get tired of watching STAS because Mr. Daly was so excellent in the role.

Newbern. He does a great normal superman and his angry superman is better.

I really think this poll should just be between Newburn and Daly, as they will probably get the majority of the votes.

for the first 3 choices, most of us did not even watch this when it aired, let alone even see episodes with them va'ing.

it is too soon to tell with the new guy on LOSH.

Newburn is also very fresh in people's memory and Daly has not voiced Superman in almost 10 years-so I am going to say that Newburn is going to get the majority of votes here (mine included).

Actually Daly voiced Superman in Brainiac Attacks I believe...Not exactly the best work he's had to work with.

For me it's a toss-up between Daly and Newbern. Lowenthal's Supes is more of a Superboy than a Superman to me. (Not surprising, given that Legion's Supes was going to be Superboy before the lawsuit.)

Daly, I think.

Your best bets for Collyer and Dark are Toonami. If you're lucky, you can find footage from the Ruby Spears series on YouTube.

ooooo, tie vote, this is exciting.

I voted Tim Daly, he had a great Superman and Clark Kent.

Really hard decision. Daly delivered one of my favourite DCAU lines ("In the end, the world didn't really need a Super man... just a brave one."), but I warmed to Newbern faster because I saw JL/JLU before the bulk of S:TAS.
... I'm gonna go with Newbern.

Also, you forgot Christopher McDonald, who voiced Supes in Batman Beyond.

It's a tie between Daly and Newbern for me. I just can't decide.

Newbern when he became more attuned to role, which started around Season 2 of Justice League when Superman stopped looking so old.

You left out Adam Baldwin (Superman: Doomsday). Anyway, I'm voting Tim Daly.

I was going to say Daly, but Newberns speech whiling attacking Darkseid sealed the deal for him.

Tim Daly hands downs but George was pretty awesome as well I mean he does the voice Sephiroth too

Didn't realize that until I was too late.

You left out Adam Baldwin (Superman: Doomsday).

I think I made a note of that.

Then again, Lance Bass voiced Sephiroth, too...

I like Newbern. At first I thought he was emulating Tim Daly, but at some point he surpassed his predecessor.

Oh, man. This is hard. :/ It's either George Newbern or Tim Daly. Tim Daly was great in the Animated Series, but didn't do so well in Brainiac Attacks. Newbern wasn't that good with the role in the early Justice League. But, man, he improved so much since then.

I guess I'll go with Newbern (he's a pretty good Sephiroth, too..and I don't exactly like Sephiroth or Superman, but hey).

DAly always seemed too flat to me. Excluding the first season of Jl, I like Newburn's Supes more.

Having heard all of them but Beau Weaver, I think George Newbern did the best, although Adam Baldwin and Tim Daly both did outstanding jobs, too.

I voted for Tim Daly, but the more I think, Bud Collyer really is THE definitive voice of Superman. In his time, he was Superman for more people than any other version of the character that has come since, whether people realize it or not. The impact he made on the character are undeniable. The way he let his voice drop an octave in the middle of "This looks like a job...for SUPERMAN!", etc.

George Newbern.

Apparently being older than most of those voting in this poll, for me it's a choice between Bud Collyer, Danny Dark, and Tim Daley, probably out of the first two being the main voices of Superman when I was a kid (via reruns of the 60s Filmation show and the then-ubiquitous "Super Friends") and liking Daley's work on S:TAS. In the end, opted to go for Collyer... have to like the way he distinguished between Clark and Supes (and the change in voice when changing identities)...

There should be some clips of the Ruby Spears series on YouTube, mostly the Family Album vignettes.

Collyer was good...But I haven't heard him do enough to really be able to pick him.

Daly seemed to have the voice naturally. It was just there and he sounded like Superman without even trying that hard. He was Superman to me, so I voted him.

Newbern I didn't like in JL season 1, but he's grown on me. Thing is, I don't think his voice was right at the beginning as Daly's was. I think Daly more naturally fit the role, making Newbern (least, that's how it seemed) work a lot harder to be Superman. Fact is, occasionally he seemed to be trying too hard.

...Admittedly, the JL character design (inferior to STAS, imho,) may have helped influence me. Right now, I like Newbern a lot and I think if they had to replace Daly, he was the guy. ...But I have to vote Daly.

I thought that Daly nailed the character perfectly. He brought to Superman a sense of idealism without naïvete, compassion without weakness, and moral righteousness without arrogance. Newbern was also excellent: while he was still getting used to the role in Justice League season 1, after that I didn't have any complaints. Adam Baldwin did a good job in Doomsday, and he's a very talented actor, but I don't think Superman is his role. He does well in roles with some creepiness or disreputability in them (Knowle Rohrer in The X-Files, Jayne Cobb in Firefly

To me the true measure of what makes a good Superman VA is how well the guy can distinguish the voices of Clark and Superman; most good VAs can speak with a nerdy stutter, and most good VAs can say "Have no fear" without sounding like a sissy, but being able to pinball between the two is the trick. For me that puts it between Collyer and Newbern...and I kinda have to lean toward Newbern on this one.

Some talk of Collyer being a real contender here, which reminds me that Batman: Animated has a segment where Paul Dini says that the greatest triumph in the history of animation was the Fleischer Superman series. Not wanting to derail the topic but does anyone agree with him?
