Dropping JLA

I was a big fan of the JLA title when it premiered, and was a consistent reader of it, but recently the title has been disappointing and late. The most recent arc, which had a great premise, ended flat and boring. Bryan Hitch's art was good, but not up to the strength of his JLA: HEAVEN'S LADDER one shot, or his AUTHORITY work. Plus, I have a budget constraint, but it feels like the right time to leave the book. An artist I dislike, Doug Manhke, will be taking over with a mediocre writer, Joe Kelly. I may stick to finish out the next Martian arc, but the effort in the title just doesn't seem to be there anymore. Hitch admitted to not enjoying this title. Waid chucked out these issues so he could finish his DC contract. Those ingredients do not a good title make. Any other JLA readers? Comments? I'd like to here more on what other folks think of this.

And why do I think Justice League Adventures will be the better title come November?

Maybe I can answer that question with a question. Why are the Marvel titles making the "Ultimate" line? A fresh start. The Justice Leagues animated comic gives the oppertunity to have a more fresh look and feel, IMO. I'm sure we'll have nothing to worry about. I can't wait to get a look!

I can only reply in general, since I haven't been an avid reader of the JLA comic...

Personally, what makes or breaks a comic book company for me is who they have on the pay roll. Right now, Marvel is getting the kick ***** creators on their side, and that is making all the difference. You can have the greatest characters in the world, but if the creative team doesn't handle them right, them I am bailing. I never read Spider Man because I just had to collect Spider Man; I read Spider Man back in the day when I liked the creative team on the book. Same with any given DC title. I used to read DC alot more than I do now because they had the great creators on their payroll. I guess I just see the shift in creative talent starting to favor Marvel once more.

As a JLA reader I have to say the title has sucked for awhile now and I unfortunatly have kept buying hopeing it would get better but it hasn't. I haven't liked Waids run at all aside from "JLA: Heavens Latter" his work in the regular series hasn't been good at all. And as much as I hate to admit I liked Morrisons run more and I hated a majority of his work towards the end of the title. The Jla atleast started Off good under Morrison before it started going to crap, Waids hasn't empressed me at all. Still I'm going to finish out Waid's "white martian" run and see what the new creative team can bring to the table.

i never have been able to read the JLA books, but i did get all the "Adventures in the DC Universe" books, an animated look at the heroes and villians of DC. it was a pretty awesome book, even though it seemed to be aimed more towards children. some of the people from that book are coming to work on the JL animated book, so i'm really looking forward to it. i think john delany, who did the pencils in ADCU is going to work on the JL book...

The JSA is a well writen book (better than The JLA currently) but I dont like the characters enough to pick it up.

For the long time JLA readers, who handled the book the best? And for those currently uspet at the turn the book has taken, who would you like to see at the helm?

Actually, Mark Waid's run on JLA has been my favorite in a long, long time. I think he understands the characters and the dynamic between them far better than Grant Morrison ever did. It's a book I have to re-read over and over because it has so much nuance to it. Babel was spectacular, and Man and Superman blew me away.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

So test out the JSA? I may just do that. The book is getting huge coverage. And with the 'Return of Hawkman' story, I have been meaning to check it out. Also, my last issue was the conclusion of "Man & Superman", an arc I found extremely dissapointing. Tower of Babel was great, then it just slid down from there.
