LucasArts Unleashes The Force On The Wii (http://kotaku.com/gaming/wiimote-lightsaber/lucasarts-unleashes-the-force-on-the-wii-301065.php)

http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2007/09/forcewii.jpgSo what if the Wii (http://kotaku.com/gaming/wii/) cannot handle the awesome 'next-generation' physics engine the other consoles will enjoy when Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (http://kotaku.com/gaming/star-wars%7C-the-force-unleashed/) is released. They get duel mode! DUEL MODE! LucasArts (http://kotaku.com/gaming/lucasarts/) announced today that Krome Studios is developing a version of the game for the Nintendo console, and players will finally get to use the Wiimote for its intended purpose - as a lightsaber! With the Wiimote saber and the nunchuk controlling force powers, I'll be hard pressed to choose which console to pick the game up for. Adding to my inner turmoil is the aforementioned duel mode, which lets you take your friends in one on one Jedi battles to the death! I am so completely geeking out right now it isn't funny. You guys read the press release, I'm going to need a moment.

LucasArts to Unleash the Force on the Wii in Spring 2008 Star Wars™: The Force Unleashed™ Coming to Nintendo's Platform with Exclusive Duel Mode
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Sept. 18, 2007 - LucasArts today revealed that Star Wars™: The Force Unleashed™ will come to the Wii™ home videogame system from Nintendo next spring, offering owners the unique chance to live out their Jedi fantasies by wielding the Wii Remote™ as a lightsaber while using the Nunchuk™ controller to torment foes with their Force™ powers.
The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game's expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master.
"The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. "We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force."

So for those of you who wanna lightsaber battle, but dont wanna look goofy getting the Hasbero toys at TRU and going through the check out line with a hot chick giving you the "i can belive you still buy those things and your what, 25", now heres your "play it safe" way to fight with sabers, and not look stupid to hot chicks.

Man, i always grew up using the Hasbero lightsabers you get at TRU, then me and my bro would beat the crap outta each other, or i wanted to, till he cried and my parents got on my case. Good times, Good times...

Anyone else see the trailers for the game? Not only does it look like a total blast, it also looks very amusing, in a sadistic sort of way. I mean, the guy slams a stormtrooper into a wall repeatedly, then flings him and some debris into a tie fighter. Sounds like good old fashioned silly fun.

And using the Wiimote as a lightsaber? This may possibly be the best Star Wars game ever.

I think this is the reason all those Wii's sold in the first place.

I doubt the Wii has the processing power to handle the physics-intensive game engine that made Force Unleashed so notable in the first place.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't want to trade lightsaber controls for some dumbed-down version of the game. And even then what are the odds the lightsaber controls won't suck?

That's the trade, though, dude. A more interactive control experience versus a more realistic physical model. That basically sums up the conflict of this console generation in one release.

A game where you're Vader's apprentice? I am intrigued.

I just hope they can deliver on the gameplay.

I'd rather they just develop a separate game for the wiisaber, or use the already existing production materials to create a "spin-off" that can exist alongside the original product (ie. Force Unleashed: Fight for Power). Kinda like how Capcom isn't pretending the Wii can run any version of Resident Evil 5, but is developing Umbrella Chronicles for it as a separate game. From the lateness of this announcement compared to how long we've known about Force Unleashed for the PS3 and 360, the lightsaber controls have yet another tacked-on impression.

Anyone remember that youtube video someone made of Forces Unleashed and how it would be with wii controls?

After I saw that I went to BB and bought all the SW films on DVD...Even after I had held to my VHS copies waiting for an the unavoidable Ultimate Collection.

Thats how cool a SW Wii game has an effect on people so obviously I'm very excited.

I wish I could find that video again though, I tried searching and searching on youtube for it.

Interesting lol. Well, seeing as Wii's the only one out of the future systems that can only do those kind of movements. And with the Wii-Remote acting as a light saber and the nunchuck to control your character.

Though, it'd be a challenge if it was one of those Rail-type games. Dragon Quest Swords, Ghost Squad, T.C 4 etc... That the enemies come at you and you would do several slashes

I hope they make a lightsaber that the Wii remote can fit into. That would make the experience all the more cooler.

Gamecube's version of RE4 shows that the Wii can in the least remain realistic. Honestly the graphics on RE4 being the same in this game would bother very few people. Its not like they are ugly, just a little less crisp.

Shoot, I didn't say "unrealistic." Prime 3 proves the Wii can pump out good graphics and I guess physics. It's just the other consoles can do it far, far better. Bioshock, for example, looks and acts mindblowing.
