Those 20 episodes TVInsite mentioned? They're already made. They are episodes from pre-existing seasons that FOX has been too lazy to air.

It's not like Groening is still working on these episodes. THEY'RE ALREADY DONE. Only 48 of 72 episodes have aired.

FOX intends to pre-empt Futurama enough to keep the 20 pre-made episodes fresh throughout the year, by MOVING FUTURAMA TO THURSDAY NIGHTS.

The death timeslot.

So 72 episodes have been made? I guess that isnt so bad a run...

Thursday night? Damn it, I have class that night!

As unbelievable as it sounds, this might not be as bad as it looks. Years and years ago FOX moved The Simpsons to the Thursday night timeslot opposite NBC's The Cosby Show. There was trouble at first, but The Simpsons held their own and were eventually moved back to Sunday nights.

Granted, Thursday night on FOX is a deathtrap, but this is a show created by Matt Groening. If anyone can survive this night it will be a Groening-created show. I'll just have to find someone to tape it for me...

Hey, at least it won't be pre-empted every week for football now.

:(

I hope.

No...

If Futurama stays at Sunday at 7 PM, it will not be pre-empted until next winter.

Futurama would be pre-empted many times on Thursday. It's going against Must See TV, which means FOX is going to be putting movies and specials on Thursday nights to combat NBC's shows. They already did it to Family Guy and The Tick, and they were able to get away with cancelling both of those shows for "low ratings".

The FOX that put The Simpsons on Thursday nights when The Cosby Show was on is not the FOX of 2002.

The FOX of 2002 doesn't give shows a "chance" and only seeks immediate revenue and high ratings.

The people working on Futurama won't just sit around during the upcoming season waiting to see if it'll get renewed, either. Like it was said in the other thread, they'll be moving on to other work. Even if the show managed to do well in the Thursday slot (which is unlikely), they'd have to put together a new crew to work on it.
