Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- Soulstorm
An exclusive first look at the third expansion to Relic Entertainment's future-warfare real-time strategy game. The new expansion introduces a new race to the fold: the Dark Eldar.
S&M Elves in SPAAAACE!
I hope they add some Inquisition faction also.

Nice! I was under the impression Relic was done with Dawn of War after Dark Crusade. Too bad it deals with the Eldar, whom along with any kind of elf I hate. Was kind of wishing for Tyranids when I saw the thread. Oh well.
Hopefully they'll make a good campaign like in Dark Crusade. I know its a multiplayer game at heart, but those first two campaigns where atrocious. Dark Crusade's two layered strategy method how ever, dang brilliant.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm Announced For PC
THQ Inc. today announced Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm, the next standalone chapter in internal studio Relic Entertainment's (http://gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=11061#) award-winning Real-Time Strategy (RTS) franchise, is scheduled for release on Windows PC in spring 2008. Featuring an extensive interplanetary campaign spanning an entire star system in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm introduces two all-new factions for an unprecedented total of nine playable races.
"Relic Entertainment has set the standard for technical excellence and innovation in the RTS genre," said Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, THQ. "Dawn of War - Soulstorm continues that tradition as a standalone title featuring all-new, brutally addictive single and multiplayer game-play that will hook newcomers and skilled Dawn of War veterans alike."
"In Dawn of War - Soulstorm, we've taken Games (http://gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=11061#) Workshop's epic war from one planet to an entire star system," said Tarrnie Williams, general manager, Relic Entertainment. "Allowing gamers to play nine unique races, introducing air units and providing multiplayer achievements for the first time creates a tremendous amount of new and challenging strategic gameplay (http://gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=11061#) for all players." Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm is set in Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe - a dark, futuristic, fantasy (http://gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=11061#) setting where armies of technologically advanced warriors, fighting machines and hordes of implacable aliens wage constant war - and is played by millions worldwide. Executive produced and co-developed by Relic Entertainment in association with Iron Lore Entertainment, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm is a complete standalone title and will feature two all-new armies, including the malicious Dark Eldar, for an unprecedented total of nine playable races. In addition to new units across each of the seven existing races, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm will incorporate air units for the first time and introduce multiplayer medals, adding a whole new level of depth to online battles. The revolutionary meta-game introduced in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade is further expanded to an interplanetary scale in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm, allowing players to battle across an entire star system.
Well there is a 9th race but it hasn't been announced; Relic said they were not going to do Tyranids in DoW period but SoulStorm being made by Iron Lore (Titans Quest).
Air Units: it fits 40K Epic but not too much with just 40k, and yes I know they already have Imperial Armor/Forge World (the publication and the web site) type units. I can understand stuff like Air strikes but the scale of the the units in DoW would make having flying units stick around seem a little eh.

Eh, if they keep it as one air unit per race or with very limited numbers it could work. Like the Super Relic Units, just got give them that "special" feeling for when you make one. You know, that slight giddy feeling when your Squiggoth is about to be finished.
Hopefully the 9th race will balance out the Dark Eldar. If not Tyranids (WHY RELIC?) then I want some Adaptus action. The Witch Hunters of them would be a great adversary for the Dark Eldar along with regular Eldar.

Demo is out. (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=177600&page=1&pp=15)
New Intro. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cit8aGfMpuM)
Impressions: Interesting.
The air units seem to be attackable by just about any unit so they don't seem to add too much to the gameplay that the jump units didn't have. Plus there all Starcraft style hovering craft and not Command and Conquer land/take off strike type; I would have preferred the latter to the former but oh well.
The Dark Elder: well I knew they were S&M Elves in space but sheesh some of them are wearing ball gags.
There jump units (which they have alot of) seem to have a larger range that the other races, or all the jump units are getting a jump range increase. The special abilities are a life savers especially Corrosion. I never developed a taste for the Eldar but the DE seem ok.
The Sisters of Battle: Only seen in the intro and as one of the slave girls on the DE uber unit

Yes, right when I was getting into Team Fortress 2. At this rate I won't play anything but RTS for the next few years.
