One of the things I've found most useful about my laptop is the hibernation mode, where once the battery runs out it'll 'save' everything as is until I can charge it up again. Because I like being able to jump back in like that, I've been using that for a while now instead of properly switching it off.

However, recently I've noticed that when I bring it out of hibernation it comes back as if I've just turned it on, with nothing open. The only sign the system knows something is amiss is that Firefox tells me it wasn't shut down properly.
Anyone got any idea what's going on and if it should be fixable?

well for one, hibernation does not replace a shut down. Which you should use more than hibernation. A PC needs to shut down and restart. Thats how they work. hibernation is useful is some cases, but all the time. When in hibernation mode, your hdd shuts down, and your RAM uses full 100% power to keep your PC going. Very stressful on your PC parts. Especially when an hdd has a certain amounts of power cycles and its never a good amount to exceed them. So shut down your system more than use hibernation, or sleep mode. And try restarting your PC with F8 and start it with "Last Good Known Configuration" to see if your problem is fixed. If not, it could be the hardware failing, or your laptop battery dying faster than the PC can save your info and turn on hibernation.
