I was elated to discover and purchase vol 1 of the BEAST WARS DVD the other day. I had never even heard of it being released, and 6 episodes on one disc is a helluva deal (I wouldn't have minded a few extra features, but beggars and choosers and all). Does anyone know how well this first installment sold, and if there will be any more? This is a series that needs to be released in its entirety on DVD.

It's a farily new release, and didn't get much press. I persoanlly skipped it, because I've been picking up the Canadian release DVDs instead - they've got the first 14 episodes of the series in order on two region 1 DVDs. A much better buy, IMO. You can see them here:

Yeah, I've got the Canadian discs too because there's no telling if Rhino is going to keep going with releasing Beast Wars discs. Their Beast Wars DVD is currently (as of this posting) #559 on Amazon's sales chart which is pretty decent for a disc like this. I think that it probably sold well enough to warrant a 2nd, possibly a 3rd volume, but who knows beyond that. Rhino will continue releasing them only if the sales are good.
If Rhino ends up releasing more discs than the Canadian company (Alliance) then I'll buy the Rhino ones, but right now, Rhino is losing the race.

I'm undecided at the moment, because while the Canadian discs have 7 eps per disc, they are also $5 more expensive. For every 6 Canadian, you need 7 Rhino, so $120 compared to $105. It's cheaper. However, it's still in question how many more we'll get. So I'm just going to hold off awhile on buying any.

Yeah, but on the Rhino release, you don't get to hear Dinobot speak in French! That alone is worth the extra $5! ;)
Plus you get the "Beasties" intro and photo gallery on the Candian releases, which you don't get on the Rhino releases.

I'm an idiot, but what's the "Beasties" intro? And Dinobot in French? Oh. My. God. I'm all over it. :p

"Beasties" is the name for "Beast Wars" in Canada. So, they redid the intro to the show for the Candian audiences, and instead of the voices yelling "Beast Wars!" during the intro, they yell "Beasties" - which sounds silly enough to get a chuckle out of me and my friends. ;)
And yeah, listening to the French soundtrack is hilarious. You'll never look at the Maximals the same way again.
