It looks like they're trying too hard to "hippify" a classic novel. You know- "band-of-the-moment" music on the soundtrack, "computer-of-the-moment" special effects, and hot, young "beefcake-of-the-moment" actors.

I heard Anne Rice was furious at what they did with the Queen of the Damned. Considering how pleased she was with Interview, I'm thinking this movie must be really bad. I don't have any desire to see it anyway.

I want to see it....but from the previous it looks kind of funky and not the queen doesn't seem like she did in the book from the small snipet(not that I really remember the book).

I don't think I will be going to see it. It doesn't look any good to me.

I'm gonna check it out, but since I didn't like the book as much as Interview, I doubt I'll like the movie as much.

Seriously? I thought 'Vampire Lestat' and 'Queen of the Damned' were much better books. 'Interview' just plodded along for me.

Don't know about the movie though. Anyone else think Tom Cruise should have come back? He really did an awesome job in 'Interview'.

I think Vampire Lestat was probably my favorite of the series, followed closely by Interview. I just didn't care for Queen much at all - it had too much of an 80's feel to it to me, and that really turned me off. And I thought the whole rock star thing was way too corny. I just didn't care for what she did with teh characters in Queen all that much.

Yeah, I think he should have. I'm disappointed with the actor who's replaced him in this one. But, who knows, maybe it'll be good.

QotD is my least fave book out of the Vamp. Chronicles. My favorite, actually, is Tale of the Body Thief, then Vampire Lestat. QotD is probably last on the list, actually, so I prolly won't see the movie.

And may Aaliyah rest in peace, but when I first heard she was playing Akasha, I was floored. This has nothing to do with Aaliyah's acting skills, but she seemed way too young and way too . . . I dunno, wrong for the role. But the tragic way in which Aaliyah died will ensure that this movie will get some play. I actually heard that Anne Rice said that Aaliyah was "incredible" as Akasha. I don't know if Ms. Rice said this prior to or after Aaliyah's death, though. I know that's cynical of me, but people don't like to speak ill of the dead.

I wouldn't have minded Tom Cruise reprising his Lestat role. He was awesome in Interview. I was surprised. Brad Pitt was pretty decent, too, as Louis. Is he in QotD? Does anyone know?

I completely agree about Aaliyah. I don't remember if the books ever said anything about how old Akasha was when she was changed, but it seemed to me she'd be a little older. But she may stun us all with a knock-out performance, I mean the girl did have bucket loads of talent. :( It'll be kind of like the "Crow" because Brandon Lee was killed while making it - people will just want to watch for the wierdness factor.

As for the books, "Lestat" and "Queen" always seem to run together in my head, like they're actually two parts of the same book, which is why I tend to like them both equally. "Interview" was too dark and maudelin for my tastes, and while "Body Thief" is ok in my opinion, everything after just goes down hill.

Good question about Louis being in the film. That'll be interesting to look for as well.

Well, I've heard the opposite. I'm pretty sure she said QoD was incredible or something like that.

On the other hand, I am positive that she really griped about Interview. She even took out a full page ad in a newspaper saying how dissapointed she was that Tom Cruise was chosen to play Lestat. After the movie came out, she rescinded that statement. Personally I thought he did an incredible job!

Supposedly this movie is a combination of The Vampire Lestat and QoD. From what I've read, though, not much attention is paid to TVL. They even changed the person that gave him the dark gift.

Well, I'm certainly no expert, so you could be right. But what I heard from a friend who's a movie buff of all sorts, he said that Anne Rice was so pleased with how Interview came out she gave the production team full rein for Queen, but in turn hated how they did Queen. I'm just the messenger. :)

Well we're probably both right. Cause she was happy once Interview came out and she saw the finished product. She just complained the whole time it was in production.

I did hear that she was saying good things about Queen, though. Course that's hearsay.
