While talking to CINESCAPE’s Eric Moro about this summer’s SIGNS, genre producer Frank Marshall touched on a sequel so long in the waiting people have stopped expecting it. That would be ROGER RABBIT 2. Seems the film might not be as dead as many thought.

“We developed a script for ROGER 2, which was sort of a prequel,” revealed Marshall. “[It showed] how Roger came to Hollywood, but it was too expensive. When we laid it all out, there was too much animation and it was too expensive. But now that things are what they are with CG, we may look at it again. But it’s pretty dormant right now.”

I still have such mixed feelings about this. For one, WFRR is a one-time classic, technologically, artistically, thematically... etc, etc. I don't think it should have a sequel. However, from just the little mentions, like the expense of the movie, it does seem that the time it has been worked on might actually have been used to make it another classic. Of course, if Judge Doom's father/cousin/brother/super-evil-twin frames/hunts/kidnaps Roger's son/nephew/relative/father in the line of the other sequels we've been seeing around (even if it is a prequel), then lets keep it dormant. Actually, even if it doesn't follow that tired formula, its almost impossible to conceive of them making a movie that does the original justice. Ugh, I don't know what to think.

I for one think that this sequel should be made. From what I have heard it tell how Roger get in to show business. P.S. The House of Mouse is indeed working on a two-disc special edition version of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".

I would have no problem with another Roger Rabbit movie. It would be better if it wasn't a sequel, however.

It should be a movie with an original story that doesn't rely heavily on what has done before. A prequel would be fine, I suppose.

Will they get all the rights to all the other animated characters again?

Will they get all the rights to all the other animated characters again? I don't think that will be a problem. Spielberg has a lot of pull, and I'm pretty sure he and Marshall are close. And I don't see any reason for Disney to queer the deal.

I would like to see an actual sequel to this movie. The sequel can take place in the 1990's, and involve all the classic Disney/Warner Bros./Hanna-Barbera characters, but with the modern ones thrown in as well! Setting in the 1990s and using CG would not only make it cheaper, but it would be cool! I'd love to see Humans interacting with the Animaniacs/Pinky & The Brain/Scooby Doo/Johnny Bravo/Dexter/Space Ghost/every Disney movie's characters since "Aladdin"... etc.

They could even do a short skit which involves the "Justice League" heroes making fun of their corny (and out-of-work) "Superfriends" counterparts! :) LOL

I'd also love to see the Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain run into Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Droopy, Bugs, and Daffy. That would rock! :)

Another funny scene could involve the coming of Japanese anime to the U.S. Goku and Gohon from "Dragonball Z" could make a cameo appearance, in a meeting room discussing their contracts when Goku tells the suits "Hey, we've got to make it quick, I'm expected back in Tokyo by tomorrow at lunch." :) LOL

Sure, it would have lots of scenes like those funny commercials on the Cartoon Network, which may sound bad the way I write it, but if you think about it, it would be hilarious! And isn't that what counts?

They could make the new villian "Dr. Destruction" to match-up with the name "Judge Doom" :) ...

Interesting.

Here's something I'm wondering: If this is a prequel, and if there *is* a villian.....what exactly will he use? Prequel means it happened *before* the first movie....which means he can't use Dip, since Doom himself introduced it in the first movie. Could there possibly be *another* toon-hurting/killing apparatus out there, before the age of Dip?

I think I remember hearing about this a while back... wasn't the working title something like "Who Plugged Roger Rabbit?"

There was a novel sequel written by Gary Wolf titled Who P-P-Plugged Roger Rabbit. Never read it unfortunately. :(

And if they do keep with the storyline about Roger getting into showbiz, I can't picture a DIP-slinging villain of Judge Doom's caliber, but more of maybe a jealous actor or a prejudiced director stopping at nothing to keep him from reaching the top. Still, Doctor Destruction sounds pretty cool! :)

Heck, maybe even Judge Doom could appear! :eek: There's this graphic novel, Return of Doom, in which it showed his origins as Baron Von Doom, some great Toon actor who did so many villain roles it messed up his mind. Even tho I thought the graphic novel as kinda weak, its a pretty reasonable way to add him in, maybe giving Doom a vengeful reason to frame Roger in the future.

Oh, and I'd love the cameos that squall said!
