I'm a fan of all the characters and the show, but I am with alot of folks that the handling of Superman in the show has left a bit to be desired.
Though now, I've even grown to like Bruce Timms new design for him. If look, Timm basically fused his own Superman with classic Superman actor George Reeves, the touches are very subtle but an artboy and over the top Superman fan like myself can spot them. :p This also goes to explain why he looks a bit older.
In the stories, I've liked the voice acting and even some of the dialog. My major issue comes from one: Its too easy to always treat the character who's the boy scout or has a high moral sensibility as basically the lame one of the team. C'mon guys, really.
and two: In action sequences pleeaaase stop treating Superman like a caped raquetball! Where he gots knocked around and does very little else. (and yes I know Hades was a god and technically magic but that doesn't make Supermans powers null and void. Its magic, not Kryptonite.
Yeah, he's a big boy scout. Okay. But like Terry said "he's the greatest hero who ever lived", and he's more or less the inspirational leader (rather than tactical) of the team, so lets see that!
I have noticed that most of the characters do have a tendancy not come into focus even power wise until they have their moment to shine in the episode dedicated to them. I sincerely hope that War World does this for Superman.
From what I understand its a arena type scenario, which should be very intresting. Just hope they dont go for the lame "take away his powers" thing. Have the b*lls to use Superman as is, powers, costume, cape and all in its glory! :D

Well, ever since Paradise Lost aired, I have new-found confidence in these one-character-spotlight episodes, especially in bringing out the heart of the characters. "War World" has Mongul. It's Superman-focused. That just calls for a Superman/Mongul fight, which I think should end a lot of the "Superman's a wimp" threads. I'm also a big time Superman geek, and am always in support of Superman getting treated better, but not so much that he becomes J'onn.

I believe this episode will do Superman justice. I can't wait to see him throw down with Mongul. And don't forget, Draaga was mentioned in the press release so you know Supes will battle him as well. Go Superman!

Actually, Hades magic DOES make Superman's powers "null and void." Magic is at least as big of a weakness for Superman as Kryptonite ( arguably moreso, since magic is more common and instantly effective ).

This is a preception that really bugs me. Magic does not make Superman weak. Is he vunerable to it? Yes, of course.
But the presence of magic does not strip him of his powers or energy. Nor like some writers would have you believe, it does not strip him of his brain.
Even if he's fighting a demon that could cut his skin, we're still talking about a guy with super strength, speed, heat-vision, etc.
While I have no problem with the concept of Superman being vunerable to magic, to use it as an excuse for a magic user or magic based creature to one-shot him is lazy and lame.
Magic is **not** the same thing as Kryptonite.

I think this may explain. Heck, maybe Superman will acknowledge that he always gets knocked around. Ya gotta give him a bit of credit. He's really strong so he probably has poor reflexes or reaction time. Yes...that is a poor excuse, but the only one I could think of. :) I just really wanna see Superman and Mongul go two to two. It's been ages sicne we've been a dukefest between them. I doubt it'll top the amazing Superman/Darkseid tussle, but this will be good, nonetheless!

His invulnerability is ineffective against magic. Ergo, a magical attack that could hurt one of his peers is going to one-hit him. Deal with it.
Besides, all your aforementioned powers would do precisely *dick* against a god.

I don't know much about Superman or magic, but I have a hard time believing matters are quite so cut and dried as this. Surely there is room for disagreement and discussion, rather than the dictatorial "deal with it"?
I don't want to see this thread degenerate into name calling.

I always thought that Superman's vulnerability to magic was kinda funny. I mean, when people say, "Superman can be hurt by magic", I always wonder, "Yeah, but who isn't?" I mean, it isn't a speciality weakness like Kryptonite, so I don't even know why it's listed. Saying Superman is vulnerable to magic is like saying Batman is vulnerable to bullets or fire. There's nothing really special about it.

I agree with you Harvey. Everybody is vulnerable to magic pretty much so why does he get singled out. In a issue of JLA awhile back the League took on a Magical woman (whose name escapes me at the moment) and none of the Leagures where any more affective than Superman. As I remember it J'onn was being dragged toward a oven by some magical creatures and he couldnt use his phase powers to free himself because magic was envolved. To me the question is .Who isnt vulnerable to magic?

He gets singled out because if they didn't state it, then everyone would think that he would have at least a little immunity to magic, which he doesn't. (the best example of this is how he easily cuts his finger on Wonder Woman's sword in Kingdom Come.) No one else has any sort of invulernabilities so they don't have to state it.
By the way, that was the Queen of Fables.

 I would post a response to your comments metaphysican but since you seem to feel the need to be so especially dismissive then I decline, for the reasons that Maxie Zeus pointed out.

Recall thart Karkull, a magic monster, slashed Superman's chest..and Darkseid, who possesses some magic, was able to beat him bloody. His mind is also vulnerable--Granny controlled him in "Legacy", and Brainiac (both the robot and the carny hypnotist in the comics) and Sleez have been able to manipulate him to some degree. So forget the bullets--crush the Man of Steel with Freud! :p
