I almost always win things that I bid on for two reasons:
1- I wait til the bidding is almost over before I bid
2- I wait, patience is a virtue with e-bay, there are many deals all the time. Someone one day may sell a game system with no controllers for 100 bucks and the next day a game system with several controllers and several games will go for 50 bucks. If you are patient, you will find a good deal.

Yeah, I always wait until 5 minutes before it ends, because by time I have all my info down & whatnot, no one else has any time to bid on it, leaving me as the winner!!
But yeah, always look around. With every day you have your eye on one thing, an even better deal might just pop up! ;)

You can also get Ebay to do searches for you, and they'll email you if they'll found something matching the info you gave 'em. Not to mention you can get an item watch to keep an eye on how an auction you haven't bid on is going.
One question, though. Is it appropriate for sellers to mail packages with a pamphlet included with your item?

If you want, you can also place a proxy bid - which is how much you are willing to spend at most on the PS2. Just type your maximum bid, and it will stay hidden from the other bidders. If you want to wait a day or two before you do so to see how the bidding is going, that might be a good idea.
Out of about 4 or 5 bids I have placed on items since June (when I joined), I have won 3. I only just started using proxy bid with my most recent bid, and it made me feel a bit more confident and less worried about being sniped at the last minute.
And even if you don't win, don't worry! New things pop up every day, and there's got to be another PS2 in the bunch. You may even find something you want more, and will be glad you didn't win :)

As far as Ebay goes, I'm only good with coaching an obsessive mentality, because when I needed that top of the line Dreamcast arcade stick controller from Interact, I heard that in 2001 they're a rare find if even that. I babysat that auction until the very last minute. I got the higest bid about a half hour before the closing time, but I sat by just in case. :)

Um, wait till the las SECOND, if it's a hot item, that's what I do. Either that, or get a cricket program. ;)

Bringing up my question again... No one here's gotten religious pamphlets or things of that sort with an ebay item before?
If you guys have brains....
snipe! (place bid in the very last minute)
and if you're very smart, use AUCTIONSNIPER! It works! I wonder why there are so many idiots out there who start to bid whenever they see something. Don't they realize that they're only pushing up the prices?
be smart, it's so cool to pre-programm your bids,

Well, I must be the only one to do this, but if you have a price limit and you have patience and the thing you want isn't a rare item (in that there's plenty up for auction all the time), you might as well put in your top bid at any time and hope it pans out. That's how I got my Gamecube and I got a sweet deal on it.
