View Full Version : The Anime of the Month Nomination Thread and Poll (September 2007)

The purpose of Anime of the Month is to highlight a different anime title each month that otherwise would not get that much exposure in the mainstream, allowing an opportunity for people to try something new that they might not have otherwise seen before.

BASIC GUIDELINES:
- Only one nomination per board member. Any nominations after your first one will be ignored (don't even ask).
- Multiple nominations of the same title will be taken into account in deciding what goes into the poll. In most cases, an anime title with the most nominations may more than likely be the one chosen for the month.

In addition, when nominating a title, you MUST adhere to the following (newbies please read before posting, as these guidelines are subject to change):

* Previous Anime of the Month titles cannot be nominated, ruling out the following: Excel Saga, GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka), Read or Die, Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances), Witch Hunter Robin, X TV, Noir, Last Exile, Haibane Renmei, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Kiddy Grade, Fruits Basket, Azumanga Daioh, Saikano, Tenchi Muyo GXP, Millennium Actress, Chrono Crusade, Paranoia Agent, Kino's Journey, Samurai Champloo, Twelve Kingdoms, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Midori no Hibi (Midori Days), Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, Otogi Zoshi, Scrapped Princess, Kodocha (Child's Toy), Gunslinger Girl, Card Captor Sakura, Spiral, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Planetes, Hare+Guu, My-HiME, Godannar, Kamichu!, Figure 17, Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, Gundam SEED Destiny, GaoGaiGar, Full Metal Panic! TSR, Mermaid Forest, Star Ocean EX, Ah! My Goddess TV, GoldenBoy, Koi Kaze, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Gatchaman and Kaleido Star.

* Any anime that has been shown, announced, or is scheduled to be shown on American national television during the past few years (mostly ruling out any anime that has been shown on Adult Swim, SciFi Channel, G4 (formerly TechTV), Cartoon Network, Fox Kids/4Kids TV, AZN-TV, etc.) cannot be nominated, since they probably have more than enough exposure already (this also includes stuff airing via Toonami Jetstream and/or other free-access broadband services). PLEASE NOTE: This rule does not apply to anime that is available on various Video-on-Demand platforms or special services (i.e.: Anime Network, Anime Selects, FUNimation Channel, etc.), nor does it apply to anime shown on premium channels (i.e.: Showtime Beyond, Starz/Encore Action, IFC) since not everyone has access to digital cable or satellite service.

* Only anime that has been officially released in the U.S. can be nominated (Sorry fansubbers, but to keep everything legitimate at Toon Zone, fansubbed titles are ineligible for the sake of avoiding any legal issues). Additionally, do not nominate anime titles that have been licensed, but do not have an official release date, for those nominations will be ignored.

* Anime television series, feature-length movies, and OVAs are all equally acceptable. In the case of releases spanning multiple DVD and/or VHS releases, though, the first volume will be discussed primarily in an effort to minimize costs for those who wish to participate. Later releases may be discussed, but spoilers beyond the first volume should be omitted or placed in spoiler tags.

* Due to the limited time period for Anime of the Month titles, any anime that is being released at the end of the month should not be nominated until the next month.

As always, any other questions, comments, or suggestions may be discussed here if it's towards improving the selection process in this thread.

Nominations will be open until Wednesday evening (or after we reach a maximum of 15 nominees, whichever comes first), after which a poll will go up in THIS THREAD ONLY. No new threads will be made until the conclusion of the poll.

The floor is now open for nominations.

Giant Robo.

Now where's Larry to second my motion? :p
I don't think they need a seconded notion considering that the first 15 titles are what usually get nominated from. Giant Robo is the ninth title submitted.

When we mean anime of the month we mean something animated. Not a manga.

Fourteen titles to choose from this month, but there can only be one winner.

Voting will conclude next Thursday at the time indicated on the poll.

Good luck.

Fafner? What? That show gets talked about less in here than Giant Robo and now it's leading? C'mon.

Watch Black Lagoon or Berserk eventually win.

Well, I didn't expect it to be Saiunkoku's time. So, I'm voting for Giant Robo. Its come up a few times and it really is a fine robot show. A pretty unusual one at that, I'll have more to say should it win.

Not leading anymore. Giant Robo is in the lead at the moment.

Pretty close so far, nobody's pulling away yet . . .

In this showdown of perennial also-rans, Black Lagoon reigns victorious. Now Rock and Dutch don't have to hold Remy back from killing us all anymore.
