View Full Version : Franchises You Would Like to See Come Back/Start Up

Well what video game franchise would you like to see make a comeback or a game (or games) that you think could be expanded into a franchise?

I would like to see Freedom Force be brought back as a viable franchise. Superheroes are still popular. 2K Boston/Australia (formally know as Irrational Games) are now on the map thanks to BioShock. Freedom Force's atmosphere and sense of humor would make a great fit for the Wii, it has a cast of colorful and memorable characters, good gameplay (IMO, I don't know how the average gamer would like real time tactical squad based combat with lite RPG element), and plenty options to make your own custom heroes that can be shared and battled with online(but that does tend to cause a bit of legal problems). And Freedom Force rocks :D (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69lIkcwzOiw)

The main problem is that most games would be expecting something like BioShock from 2K Boston/Australia and would be getting something radically different in terms of gameplay and tone (but it could stop the developer from being "typecast"); and as I said before I don't know how the average gamer would like the gameplay.

FOR FREEDOM!

I guess Chrono Trigger and the Soul Blazer/ Illusion of Gaia games.

But I sense they would get the Mana series treatment...

Also, I want more 2D Monkey Island! >:\

Also, I want more 2D Monkey Island! >:\

That would be great, but will probably have to be retooled with more Jedi Warriors in order for Lucas Arts to give Guybrush some consideration. But I regress on account my choice is Day of the Tentacle/Maniac Mansion.

Also Megaman. Non of this .EXE, Starforce, and ZX nonsense. Just good old fashion Megaman.

That I also agree on. I am quite displeased that Megaman has become a talking lizard head.

Would it kill Capcom to make a Megaman X series?

Threads of Fate deserves a squel, I'd say.

I also wouldn't mind a sequel to Shadow of the Colossus, but that doesn't seem like it'd fit the developer's style.

Jet Force Gemini, if they ever remade it. Keep the humor, gameplay, and space opera elements, but add more enimies, with smarter AI, moving arround, random, plus even larger levels and more stuff to do. Make the game have a replay vaule, and also a better multiplayer. Blasting bugs has always been fun.

2 Games top my list. One, is a sequel to Skies of Arcadia (you're looking at my namesake, plus the original [or the GCN version] is one of my all-time favorites for its old-school RPG feel, sky pirates, and non-emo story). The other is a reboot/remake/sequel to Double Dragon, which I can see be done in 3D.

Brave Fencer Musashi 2 - This game was and is fantastic, and deserves a real sequel with the character from the first game. Simply expand the world, polish up the graphics and add new moves and skills, keep the humor, and you've got a winner.

Startropics 3 - This concept has so much potential left untapped. It could've become more than a "zelda clone" if the series had been given another chance.

Mega Man Command Mission 2 - I REALLY loved this game. Finally a Mega Man RPG and it really works well. Simply add a world map, better party members, and more exploration and you have a top notch sequel.

River City Ransom 2/Double Dragon 5 (The REAL 5) - Just two great beat 'em ups that deserve continuations.

Contra 4 - ............. Oh wait...

And for something realistic...

Hotel Dusk 2!!!

The video game industry is so sequel-happy that I can't think of too many other franchises that need to come back because they're just GONE. But there are quite a few franchises that need to come back in the sense that they need to start being GOOD again, like they used to be. *cough*Sonic*cough*Star Fox.

Hmmm... Let's see here.

Skies of Arcadia: A prequel about Daccat or a sequel about a another moon. All Sega needs is to get Reiko out from the pile of crap she's under and make it happen.

Streets of Rage: If only it won that blasted Sega poll earlier in the year (count me as one of those who voted for SoR).

I'd love to see a next gen Gex game, taking full advantage of the advanced hardware by having Gex say situation-specific comments. While I found many of Gex's one-liners in the first three games funny, too many times he just said random things that were meant for generic situations or levels- about the only scene specific thing was when he was tail-whipping an enemy. It'd be really cool if Gex were to chime in with some specific jab after running by something in a level, for example. The player could identify with it and laugh. Plus, more disc space to work with means more lines of dialog, meaning less repeats.

Not only that but I've always liked Gex's parodies of TV/movie genres. I'd be interested in seeing what new, creative worlds they could make fun of if a new game was made.

I'll second that notion. To be honest, I was pulling for Diablo 3 when I heard that Blizzard would be announcing a new title. It's a shame it ended up being Starcraft 2 instead. :p

I'm far from a Blizzard fanboy, but I have played at least a couple of the games from each of their major series and I have to say that Diablo entertains me the most. If they ever do make a Diablo 3, I'm hoping that it will be truly massive in scope. I have dreams in which every little cave you come across is as big as the labyrinth from the orginal game. C'mon Blizzard, give me a game that takes me a year to beat! ;)

Ah this old question again... Lets see now.

RareWare needs to get going on a new Killer Instinct and Battle Toads game.

Nintendo should make a new Kid Icarus, a new 2D Metroid for DS (maybe there is one coming, I don't know though) and a new Ice Climber for DS. A new Wii-mote ready Pilotwings could be fantastic and I still don't know why Mario Paint DS doesn't exist yet.

Sqeenix needs to make a 3rd Chrono installment at the very least.

I have to agree that a new Earthworm Jim and a "classic Mega Man" game are well warrented.

And...

Star Tropics. All too forgotten. Nintendo's 2 part series on the NES which never made it to Japan. A revival of that could be epic.

I wonder if they already are working on it & just haven't announced it yet. The Killer Instinct/Conker team's last project was "Conker: Live & Reloaded" & that was two years ago...

The problem is... they don't have Rare anymore. But I think with a good team they could make a good Donkey Kong platforming/adventure title for Wii.

Paon would probably work for this since their games have tons of references to the Rare Donkey Kong games (bats from Donkey Kong 64, DK barrels, & the coins from Donkey Kong Country 2 just to name a few).

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, both with their original, respective creators again.

I definitely agree with this. Sony should buy the rights from Universal.

In reality, Sony doesn't own Insomniac. So, they can still hook up with Sierra/Vivendi (the current owners of Spyro) and create another dragon game.

Four: The Final Generation Of Street Fighters

2D game, made with UDON sprites, and a combination of the Alpha 3/Third Strike engines.

Give the characters competent story paths, with branches such as...

Ryu Round 1: Training With Ken
Win? Unlock Ken. Go To China.
Lose? Unlock "Red Bandana" Ryu. Go Train Sakura.

So, yeah, just make a new damn Street Fighter that embraces the growing Capcomverse.

I'd like to see a new World Heroes game, a decent version of Justice League Task Force (the original was a good idea, but a weak execution) and possibly a updated Killer Instinct title, provided they brought back Cinder, who was my best character. I could always cruise through the entire game with Cinder, so when they dumped him from the series, a little piece of my inner gamer died.

Agree with Jet Force Gemini needing a sequel...just hope they'd avoid the Tribal scavenger hunt.

Another Rare title that deserves a sequel is the underrated Blast Corps. That was the game that really sold me on the N64 back when it came out, and I think that it could be really amazing with next-gen graphics. Sure, the story was a bit weak, but all that really mattered was blowing the crap out of everything in your way.

Heck, they could even toss in co-op and online at this point. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Golden Sun needs to come back, NOW. They were some of the only good RPGs on Nintendo systems for quite a long while.

Eternal Darkness definitely could come back, with even better insanity effects.

Elite Beat Agents DEFINITELY needs a sequel, and maybe they should consider branching them out into a Wii franchise as well.

My top choice, though, has to be Okami. I don't think any game has ever deserved a sequel more than this gem. I'd gladly list it as one of the top 10 games ever created.

Dear God NO! Bubsy needs to stay dead. As for more of mine.

Elite Beat Agents (with the Ouendan as secret chars in the sequel, similar to how the Agents and Divas were secret chars in Ouendan 2, but don't be so relentless with the final song this time. JJF was insane even on the Breezin level)
Earthbound (is it THAT hard to revive Earthbound from the N64 and release it on the DS?)
Kid Icarus (it's been a decade since the last one, and with Pit in Brawl, it makes sense)
Punch-Out (with the Wiimote and Nunchuk, it makes sense. It worked with Wii Boxing. Give us the chance to KO some classic boxers instead of Little Mac)
Ninja Turtles (there are games on it now, but those games are **** compared to the games of the late 80s/early 90s. Konami put the arcade games on the 2nd and 3rd 2003 TMNT games, but when they **** around with everything, it just loses it's impact. Luckily UbiSoft brought the REAL TMNT arcade game to XBox Live Arcade in all it's glory)

Now I've been thinking of it more:

Mail Order Monsters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_Order_Monsters): It would be EAs answer to Pokémon except bloodier, more action oriented, and meant for older gamers. 'Lyonbear eviscerate his Homonid with your claws!'

Blood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_%28computer_game%29): Before Monolith was into contemporary Japanese style horror in F.E.A.R. they were into camp splatterstick horror. It could either be a reboot or a third game in the series about Caleb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYtw0ZDfZ3c) and the other Chosen returning to Earth, taking over the Cabal and then the world, and then Caleb being betrayed by the other Chosen so you could have a point to continue. The biggest problem thought is Monolith doesn't currently have the rights to Blood. "It's Howdy Doody time kiddies; here comes the baaad man."

The wisecracking-meathead-blows-stuff-up-good FPS has been done to death since the original Duke Nukem; setting aside the ridiculous delays, what are the chances that they can slap something together that contains enough of that original tone to be faithful to the first, while simultaneously competing with the Half-Lifes ("Half-Lives"?) and Bioshocks that now rock our worlds?

You know what series I'd like to see make a come-back? Gauntlet.

Yeah, it hasn't been THAT long, but Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows was SUCH a disapointment!

The game was GORGEOUS looking, but that's about it.

The game is remarkably easy, which is not something you want in a gauntlet game. Your character becomes god-like MUCH too quickly. Me and my friends were having NO problems by level 20. The story, which was the deepest for the series was wasted with bad cut-scenes and low-volume voice acting.

And those two new classes The Lancer and The Tragedian getting removed? I'm STILL not over that.

The game is a good-looking rental.

To be fair, the two main guys leaving the project was a massive blow. And I hear Midway was/is in bad shape finacially which explains some things. But I really want to see one of the titles that made me an RPG fan all those years ago make a return to power.

I came up with a couple more.

Shadow of the Colossus needs a remake on a next-gen console. The PS2 version was terrific in many respects, but the clippy/grainy (non-Colossus) graphics and controls just felt weak. With proper horsepower behind it, a new Shadow of the Colossus would be insane...imagine having the Colossi be even bigger than the PS2 was limited to.

Another game that needs a sequel is Geist. It came late in the GCN's life and was marred by stiff controls, but the concept behind it was brilliant. Being a ghost and possessing various objects to frighten people was just fun. With a Metroid 3-style control setup, the game would be amazing as a Wii-make.

Lastly, I still want a sequel to Okami...I'm actually quite sad that I finally finished it.
