View Full Version : Why do show/movie creaters have to change things??...

Why do these people who create these shows feel the need to change characters completely around. I don't mind small changes to help the story plots. But, from what I am reading about Birds of Prey they are making some big changes to the backgrounds and outfits of the characters. Now, don't get me wrong. I will give the show a chance. I was a weary about the whole changes to Smallville. But, I was proven wrong. It wasn't Superman's Creek.
It is just annoying that most of the ideas for future superhero movies and shows all seem to be getting away from what is written in the comics. If I want reinterpretations I will read Elseworlds. I know they do these things to give a fresh look to an old idea. But, it is good writing, not new backgrounds and different approaches that make a good show. For example, the Batman movies. It wasn't the amount of Batman movies that ruined the franchise. It was idiots who have no idea what the characters are and what fans want (ie-nippled suit and a Bat credit card  ) that ruined them. Look at the Bond movies. They have made around 20 of them over the last 30 years. Yet, they have remained popular. Why? Because, they keep the same formula that people love and they do suddle updates to keep the ideas fresh.
Ok, I will end my rant.

Don't worry, you're not alone.

I too cant stand this thrend now of taking Superheros, making them high school students, and then saying "you've thrown a new twist into a classic story"

I hated Batman Beyond

I think Smallville is a piece of crap

I hate seeing Superheros as Dawson's Creek victims. I look to Superheros to give me the excitement of a new world that I need since this one is so boring some times. I need Superheroes like Batman to escape and to dream.

Batman in high school or Superman in high school is not escaping from my boring reality. It's taking the great characters and having them join me in my own hellish routine. I want to see Batman's world. I want to see Superman's world. I want to see Batman kick some a** and take some names.

I DONT WANT TO SEE BATMAN DOING HOMEWORK OR BATMAN THINKING ABOUT A PROM DATE. THAT DOESNT MAKE THE CHARACTER "REAL" TO ME. It only reminds me of myself and then makes the comicbook character TOTALLY UNLIKE how he should be.

I was totally pissed when I heard the WB was going with Smallville over the proposed Bruce Wayne series. I got some backlash on these message boards. People were saying that a Bruce Wayne show would have been boring.

Well, then I guess I think exactly the opposite way.

Seeing Bruce Wayne SHUN trivial high school pursuits, SHUN the normal life style, and to DEVOTE his life to learning fighting techniques, making connections in Gotham (LT. Gordon and Harey Dent), paying respects to his dead parents and seeing his obsession to avenge their deaths, seeing how violent and horrible Gotham City really is, and seeing a man travel the world in order to one day return and fix the problems would had been ideal for me. I wanted to see Bruce Wayne become Batman through hard work, discipline, and training.

All in all, Smallville only puts another dent in the Superman character for me. I HATE how he is stuck in high school and pinning over what girl to go out with.

Why do I want to see a Superhero doing the same crap I'm doing?

I guess it is actually good the Bruce Wayne series didnt happen. I rather have Superman get a bad rap than Bats. I like Batman better.

Anyhow, writers sometimes makes no sense.

I hope that like reality shows, all this "Let's bring the Superhero to high school" junk crashes and burns.

I'm glad we'll never see Batman in high school again with Batman Beyond being gone.

I hope Smallville does justice when Bruce Wayne makes his guest appearance, and then I hope the show gets canceled.

Look, like it or not what works in comics won't always work on TV or in a film. Some changes are inevitable. Some of those changes are a good idea, and some of those changes suck hard, but you can't make a blanket statement like "All changes are bad. It's more complicated than that. Some changes are a terrible idea (Spider-Man movie mecha-Green Gobiln) and some are good. (As a life-long Superman fan, I like the fresh perspective of Smallville.)

Well, the writers and producers must think that they need to make comic books more appealing to the general public, sine they're not very popular. You're right though, it does suck.

I'm waiting 'til BoP hits the small screen to pass judgement. I like the story premise, though.

I personally LOVE Smallville, but I was unsure at first. But they've done a really nice job of showing Clark as a regular teenager, while still keeping a bit of the Boy Scout to him (if his continuing issues with Lana prove anything).

As far as the Bruce Wayne show, I would've loved to see it if they would've done it right. But if you heard the original ideas for it, you'd know that they WEREN'T gonna do it right. They'd have Bruce doing the regular teenager things like falling in love and such. Wouldn't work, unless they did it as well as MOTP (which I seriously doubt they could).

Basically, if you don't like it, don't watch it. They're thrusting comic book material into the mainstream, and that's always a good thing. I don't care if they show Bruce Wayne as a trash-talking punk, because it would in some way thrust comic book stuff into mainstream. I wouldn't watch it, but it'd be out there. Just like X-Men: Evolution :)

I love the Huntress. I'm glad she is one of the original Birds and Dinah joins later, though it does screw comic continuity I believe. But, WTF are they doin' to her? I read she's going to be a party girl. The Huntress, a party girl?O_o
And I think that Huntress should keep the costume because it wouldn't be hard to do without looking cheesey. BTW, I love that she's Helena KYLE. ;)
But, I repeat, a party girl?O_o.

Helena Kyle? Not Helena Wayne? Wait...... are they still doing the version where she's the daughter of Batman and Catwoman?
