I specifically remember this being included on the old VHS tapes. As for a year, figure it was probably produced somewhat concurrently with the series itself.

Yeah it's on the "Darkling Dawns the Duck" VHS and possibly the other ones.

A version of this video played constantly during the Summer of 1991 to hype up Darkwing's premiere on the Disney Afternoon.

Yeah, they did the same thing for Goof Troop the following year, and I think there might have been one for Bonkers. The station that was going to carry the show would play a shortened version (about a 1 - 2 minute version) for about three months or so before the show premiered. I don't recall, but I think they played the full video during the one hour premiere, then the video was never seen again until the VHS release.

I saw that vid for the first time in 1993, and it looked REALLY dated then. Unfortunately DW (and Talespin and even Ducktales) did nothing over here in the UK. Then again, in the UK it only really debuted in about 1993, LONG after they had stopped making it. Same thing for TALESPIN and later GOOF TROOP. Dated obscurities before they even aired, and even the toys went straight to the bargain discount houses (by the truck load).

Its funny. I don't remember the Goof Troop and Bonkers videos being as good or played as much as the Darkwing one. Maybe it's because I preferred Darkwing, or just have a better memort of it. I dunno. But I remember counting down the weeks along with the video and being incredibly excited about it. In fact, I remember watching the clip from "That Sinking Feeling" on ABC's TGIF the night before the Saturday premiere. It was as good as I was hoping it would be and I was hooked ever since. Man, so many great memories.

EDIT: and as long as I'm talking about it, I love the little bit in the video animated by Sunwoo with Launchpad and DW playing hot potato with a bomb. I wish their stuff was always that good.
