A Lunar Eclipse will be happening early tomorrow morning.

I wonder if anyone will be up to witness this event? Set your alarm clocks early (about 3:52AM)

So, what are your thoughts.

There's just no way in hell I'm gonna wake up in time to watch it. That, and I don't have any reason to wake up that early. =\

My geography teacher told us about this and I was excited at first but now I feel that the idea at waking up at three in the morning to stare at the moon for a few seconds is just too much of a hassel. I hope we have another one at an eariler time like the one a few years ago that happened at 9 p.m and that was cool.

Tonight's Street Fighter II V taught me that it's not fun to be blind. :(

I wish I could watch it, but I cherish my sleep. I sat for 30 minutes waiting for a meteor shower a few weeks ago and ended up seeing absolutely nothing.

I don't feel like doing that again.

Unless you're allergic to the red moon, you should be fine.

Local news said it'll be starting around 1AM here. I'm usually up until around 2AM, so if I'm not doing anything else, I may step out onto the back porch and check it out.

NASA's site lied to me. It said would still be able to see it at 5:30AM.

And guess what? I haul my ass out of bed, go outside, and it's too damn bright to see anything...*Sigh*

Maybe next time...

Look like most people were asleep with the exception of D Dubbs.

I was sleeping too. I was thinking about seeting the alarm clock, but it was like midnight by the time I got to bed, so I didn't see the point in waking up so early.
Plus, Lunar Eclipses are not 'once in a life time' events. There will be more. Trust me.

But my little sister did wake up at 6:45 and just missed it (trees were blocking her view). This was weird because she usually wakes up at 11:00.

I was up... but I wasn't about to go outside at that time of night. I don't wanna get shot, just because of the moon. ><

I find it hilarious that everyone was talking about 'staying up' to see it. That's at least an hour before I normally go to bed. xD

you must live in a bad part of a big city if you 'didn't want to get shot'. It's the same way in Milwaukee.

Knowing my friend, he was probably up 'til 6:00 this morning, so he probably had a chance to see it.

The only reason why I was up at two something in the morning was my brother started having conversations in his sleep. I was too tired to get up but then my dad came and got us up. Lucky for me we can see from our kitchen window. I didn't have my glasses on but the moon was like blood red.

I didn't know you lived in Milwaukee. I guess that's why your location says 'hell's cupcake'. Cool, i'm out in Hartland (about 30 miles west). there are some trees on the West part of my house, so my sister wasn't able to see the Eclipse.
But I think the last time I mentioned where I live was to D Dubbs a couple of months back.

Yes. However, the western hemisphere couldn't see it at all due to the position of Earth.

There are pockets of crime throughout neighborhoods, just like any other bigger city. I was making a joke before. Not sure if you caught that.

I bumped this old thread to report that there will be an eclipse this Wednesday at 10 pm EST. This is the one mentioned earlier in the thread.

http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/LEmono/TLE2008Feb21/TLE2008Feb21.html

Note: This is the last total lunar eclipse until 2010. The 2010 eclipse is slated for December 2010.

Yep, I saw the news on this upcoming event about 2 weeks ago. I was going to wait until next week to creat a thread on it, but I just the old thread works too.

Oh, and the difference between this eclipse and the last one is that it’s going to take place at about 10pm eastern time, rather than 5 o’clock in the morning. Most people should get a chance to see this event.

Edit: the eclipse begins at 8:43pm on Wed. and ends at 12:09am on Thurs.
The total eclipse begins at 10:01 and ends at 10:51

Here's a Chart of the time of when the eclipse is supposed to start, reach its maximum, and end (All times are in EST, adjust to your own time zone accordingly.

If you miss this one you'll have to wait till December 21st, 2010 before we in the US and Western Hemisphere get to see another one of these.

Well, for those of you who forgot, it's about halfway in the earth's shadow now. It should be in full shadow (red as I was told) soon.

I just finished seeing the eclipse. It was really cool, with the part of the cresent moon shining and the rest dark redish. Does anyone know when a solar eclipse is going to happen?

Lazerboy5000
02-20-2008, 10:07 PM
And so it begins...

Wow, looks great. I stood outside (in the sub 0 degree weather) to watch as the last part of the moon turned red.

A Solar Eclipse happened just 2 weeks ago, but only Antartica got to see it. Ummm... I don't think a solar eclipse will happen for several years. But only a few people will get to see the total solar eclipse.

It was sort of a cloudy night around here, so I wasn't expecting much of anything. I did check though as soon as I got out of the movies with a friend and it turned out to not be too cloudy and still perfect to see it. It was nearing the end of the partial lunar eclipse, so that was cool to see. I just hope the next one will be a clear night, then I can take pictures.

I saw it tonight; it was awesome. This area has a better chance of being cloudy during celestial events than usual, so a clear night for once was nice.

Lazerboy5000

WOW, it was perfectly clear out here. It looked great, but it wasn’t as red as I thought it would be.

And my dad got off of work early last night and he got home just before the eclipse started. And when it started told him why it appears red (because of the suns light being refracted in the Earth’s atmosphere and only the longest wavelength makes it to the moon, thus making it appear red). Then, about 15 minuets later, the weather man on the news gave basically the exact same explanation.

I only watched it until it stated to finish, but I didn’t watch the moon completely reappear. I had to get to bed a little early since I had morning swim practice.

The eclipse happened in Winnipeg around 6:00 - 10:00 PM. It was a clear night and it was a spectacular view! I was working on an essay when the eclipse happened. I got out my binoculars for such an occasion. The moon really did look bloody! However, just as the eclipse started to wane, the moon passed over some trees so I couldn't get a good view. :( Still great to see though. :)
