Is the anime a good watch?

Depends. Did you like YYH's Dark Tournament arc? Because that's basically what the whole series is, no more and no less.

No. The manga is a thousand times better.

Good show, but I have heard it referred to several times in the past as "the poor man's YYH".

The anime is quite low quality, but the manga is great. It starts out merely okay, but it improves with every arc until it reaches its pinnacle with SODOM.

I still find it impossible to believe it was a weekly series looking at the art during SODOM.

The anime was just a very low-budget production. The manga is awesome.

Plus, the anime design of Aoi is easily the worst I've ever seen in my life. (luckily the anime ended before he appeared)

Are you talking about his appearance in Final Burning?

Yes. He was too masculine-looking for his own good.

I always thought of it like that. I mean certin charcters or similar. But at least Anzai has better designs then Togashi.

The anime was just a very low-budget production.

I had bought the DVD last Christmas, and was amazed at how bad the quality was. Sure it was made 10-11 years ago, but some other shows made during that time looked much better than Recca. At times, I sometimes thought the show was made in the early 80's.

I'm actually watching the anime right now, and I'm 26 episodes in. Here are some perfect examples of the anime's sheer QUALITY.

And as a break from Mori: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3411/qualitykukai1yl3.jpg

And me having a bit of fun with the pictures:

Though really, the animation isn't the only bad quality. There is also horrid pacing, where they incredibly stretch out a fight and then have the gall to cut out important scenes, like (so far) any scenes of Raiha acting nice to Fuuko.

It took me a moment to figure out that was Mori.

Poor guy.

Just to get it out of the way, here's the obligatory complaint about the lack of Joker's fight.

Wasn't Mori Quality in the manga anyway?

Ah, really? I have to say I don't remember if Mori actually had a lazy eye in the manga, but if he did... he still looks stupid as hell in the anime regardless. But you have to admit, those last two Mori pictures are ****ing hilarious, especially when you actually see the transition from to it.

And I heard about them cutting out Koganei vs. Joker. I seriously wonder what they were thinking adding a bunch of filler scenes and then cutting out a big fight everyone wanted to see.

I'm going to have to say no, it is not worth watching. It was a great series, but the ending completely ruins it for it feels like there is supposed to be more, but there isn't, leaving you with one huge cop out.

That's because there is more, much more in fact, in the manga. I'd say the anime only covered about half of the series.

Being a fan of both Yu Yu Hakusho (both versions) and Flame of Recca (manga) I'll be the first to say that the Recca anime is one of the most poorly adapted anime's based off a manga. If you want to see a GOOD adaption of Nobuyuki Anzai's work look at the MAR anime.

To me there's something about the anime's character designs and animation style that just don't compliment the manga and the comparison is appalling. It's kind of the reverse for YYH where as the manga became less detailed and simplistic the anime improved upon this as the anime artwork got more detailed and better animated.

Okay, now about YYH and FOR being similar. I won't lie. Pretty much both series have exceedingly similar "Rescue girl from mansion" and "Dark Tournament" arcs. Both have a good cast of good guys, rivals, and bad guys.

The difference is the stuff concerning time-traveling ninja and the true core of Recca's powers and his ties to Yanagi are what make the manga strong. what I also love is how detailed the manga gets. He's like a reverse Yoshiro Togashi. Where Togashi-sensei get less detailed over the course of his manga Anzai-sensei's art get incredibly gorgeous after the first dozen or so volumes.

I highly recommend the manga because the anime feels more like a waste of time.

That I find is major bs. If they are going to adapt a series into an anime, USE THE ENTIRE FREAKING STORY!!! Rurouni Kenshin is a prime example of how an anime was ruined due to it not being given the last freaking story arc. Same goes for Berserk, Angel Sanctuary, Bastard!!, Inuyasha, and Fruits Basket.

Watched it over the summer. G-neric and outclassed by Yu Yu.
