View Full Version : Steel: The Movie?
The Game

You know what just occured to me? The Steel Character from S:TAS (and I'm assuming from Superman mainstream as well) is the same Steel that was made into a movie starring Shaquille O'Neal, isn't it? Oh how sad...

Shaq also rocks a Superman tattoo on his arm, which is actually bigger than a regulation movie theater screen.

I never saw the Steel movie. Could someone give me a brief synposis? And how was Steel's origin explained without having Superman appear in the movie? His origin was always so dependent upon Superman

Well, I watched the first 20 - 30 minutes before I turned it off in disgust. I reruns on TBS and TNT occasionally. And yes, it is really, really, really, really bad. His origin realtively remains the same, but ignores the Superman aspect. John Henry Irons is a construction worker who has to build some type of armor for the army (or Judd Nelson, one of the two). When he finds out its being used for eveil, he takes it, suits up, and proceeds to kick tail. I'm pretty sure there are a couple mtnions of Superman in there, but I'm trying to forget this movie. :)

Wasn't the Steel episode of STAS designed to be kind of a tie-in to "Steel"? I vaguely remember reading an interview where Dini complained about having to do that episode under pressure, and expressing relief that the film was a flop so they wouldn't have to make an animated spin off.

Here's an impossible question...
Which is worse:
Steel or Kazaam!
(To be fair, I have seen neither.)

Too bad Shaq thinks he's a real actor. :p
I have not seen any Shaq movie, but somehow i don't doubt that they all suck.

You know, it's kinda funny, even when he's just making a Nestle's Crunch comercial, they don't bother giving him lines.
"Just shake that vending machine Shaq. Then we'll tag you and release you back into the wild."

Shaq needs to stay a basketball player! Steel was terrible, Kazaam was terrible. He isn't much of an actor... For awhile he was trying to be a singer too. Stay in what your good at. :bosko:

~shudders~ Shaq's supposed to guest-star in the new Static Shock episode too. Bleh..
Just when the new season was turning out great. :(
I don't want Shaq on Static Shock! ~cries~ He can't act!!
I've seen both Steel and Kazaam. And they both suck! I mean they're really, really bad! He so cannot act, let alone sing! He even did a few songs in Kazaam! ~shudders~ He tried to rap..

Give it a chance. The new Entertainment Weekly previews the Shaq episode of STATIC SHOCK and they graded it a "B+"

They DID that al-frigging-ready! Lame SS stock-footage commercial bumpers w/live-action Shaq, couple of years ago.
It gets worse--Static meets a Backstreet Boy in an upcoming ep....

Yup, rehab poster boy A.J. McClain (sp) stops by for a visit as well. I'm gonna give the STATIC SHAQ episode a chance, becuase it will likely be better than the month long weekend theme morning. Plus, EW slammed STATIC SHOCK pretty hard intiially and gave it a C- in season 1. They give this ep a B+. It should be real good. I'm more anticipating the Static episode Frozen Out more than anything.
And yup...that STEEL episode was done to coincide with the movie that came out roughly the same time. You got a real good memory, Maxie!

Heh. When you get kicked in the teeth, you tend to remember the circumstances.

Only in its 2nd season and already it's using gimmicky guest stars. I don't like the sound of this. *sigh* oh well. What's Frozen Out supposed to be about?

yup, i'm a hip-hop buff, and i've rapped for crowds a few times and i gotta say...Shaq's raps stink.

I am willing to give it a chance... I just hope he doesn't sing in it! :D Hopefully it isn't presented as a way to make Shaq a superhero.

I'm referring to the Shaq episode of Static Shock by the way...

It deals with religion and faith in God. I'll have a newspage story on it in a couple days. It's going to be a very serious episode...can't wait for it.

Sounds good. I like the serious eps that they do, last year's ep on racism was very well done. They also have plans to do a serious episode on guns, right?

I think so. I have an interview with one of the driving forces behind the show going up (hopefully) tomorrw where he'll reveal a bit more of the plans for the upcoming season.

Sorry, I always disliked the concept of Steel. The character of John was fine, just the concept of building a stupid metal suit seemed a bit, well, stupid to me.
A concept which must have made a really snazzy and classy TV movie. No, really, I mean it, seriously..... ;)
