Kids' WB, the Saturday morning block for kids on The CW, has added the flash-anime series Skunk Fu! (52x13) to its 2007-2008 season lineup. Kids' WB acquired the series from Cake Distribution. A mix of martial arts action and comedy, Skunk Fu joins the Kids' WB block, along with the previously announced five new series, including Eon Kid, Magi-Nation, and Will & Dewitt, with The Spectacular Spider-Man scheduled to bow in 2008. Targeted to K6-12, Skunk Fu currently airs on ABC Rollercoaster (Australia) and CBBC (UK). Cartoon Network Asia, Super RTL (Germany) and France 5 and Canal J (France) are also set to broadcast the series. Galleon is managing the licensing and merchandising rights for the series.

Never even heard of this show before. Looks like Kids WB didn't completely abandon anime yet.

little research turned up
Skunk Fu! is a co-production between Hoek, Line and Thinker in the Netherlands and Irish production companies Telegael and Cartoon Saloon. The final amount of 52 episodes in the series is set to be complete by September 2007. The theme music is written and performed by rapper Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan.
So it's an 'anime' which is produced by the Dutch and Irish... eh so how exactly does anime figure into that? heh I found the opening animation on youtube.

I can see now why its called flash cartoon in the news blurb you posted because that's what it is, I've seen anime type flash cartoons and those designs don't really look too anime to me tho.

Haha, the opening is awesome. Ghostface Killah= gold.
Yeah, this isn't an anime. I'm moving it to the General Animation Board.

The theme song is beyond weird. Never quite heard something like it on a SatAM show.
The title doesn't really give me a lot of hope for the actual show, though.

Another non WB made show. Man, are WB into that "remake-the-old-HB-Turner-shows-thingy" crap.

Was it crazy of me to think of Shaq Fu when I saw this thread title? :p
Anyway, here's a link for more Skunk Fu stuff: http://skunkfu.blogspot.com/ . I'm not gonna lie, I'm already loving the look of this show. It's simply shaded but everything looks really slick and stylized. I echo the statement that it looks like a cartoony version of Samurai Jack, which was pretty cartoony and stylized in the first place.

The character summaries have voice clips of the cast. I must say, this looks to be quite fun

Everyone keeps saying it's like Jack, but it looks more like Yin Yang Yo! to me. I'll give it a chance, but I'm not liking what I see.

Good character design and animation. Can't wait to take a peek at it. The opening song reminds of "Samurai Champloo" for some reason.

I don't know. It looks kinda weird to me. Not saying its bad just real weird. I mean a kung fu fighting skunk with a hip hop theme song. That is just random.

"Everybody was Skunk-Fu fighting! (Hyah! Hyah!)
Those (pole) cats were fast as lightning!" :p
Okay, I just couldn't resist that....
Have to agree that it kind of looks like a cartoony version of "Samurai Jack".... either that or a "Yin Yang Yo" clone. Either way, it might be worth a peek. :)
Alright..... the main character's a skunk, of course I'm gonna watch it. XD

Reminds me a bit of Xiaolin Showdown too...
So why are monkeys always ninjas??

I have no interest in a colourful cartoon about a skunk. It'll probably be canceled before I see one full episode.

Naye!
The "Kids' WB!" name sells, so chaging it will do some harm.

Yeah, and how long did THAT last?
Why are martial arts cartoons/anime associated with rap? Don't get me wrong I like rap but, I don't understand the appeal.
The only exceptions I can think of are Jackie Chan Adventures and Xiolin Showdown, but everything else...
And this show in particular does a dumbed-down version of SJ's "Long ago..." intro before the theme song... jeez.

Nothing on Jetix is a "monster hit". Their ratings are, like, .1%

True, but consider that Toon Disney is in fewer homes than the big 3 kids cable networks. That and their audience is growing and they're getting into more homes.

Believe me, you're going to love Skunk Fu! IMO, it's better than "Yin Yang Yo!" in both style, animation and story writing and is definately NOT a rip-off whatsoever. This series is showing right now in the UK and it's already a massive hit. The characters aren't annoying or overbearing, and each have their own tact that makes them likeable, not to mention that their voices sound more "natural" than forced high-pitched shrieks.
Oh, and just because the main character is a skunk doesn't mean every episode will be full o' fart jokes. There is the odd "mishap" here and there, but the rest relies on comedy and kick-A action sequences. Believe me, the animation and the stories are so cleverly done that it'd be a shame if people put down this show before they've even given it a chance. As someone once said: "Don't judge before you know".
(PS: Apologies as well to any YYY! fans out there)

Yeah I saw it.
I'm disappointed, actually. It's just a bunch of animals defending themselves against ninja monkeys. The dialogue wasn't that great, and the characters were pretty bland, with the exception of the rabbit. I may tune into another episode, but I don't think this is going to work for me.

Augh, forgot to watch. But then, I haven't watched Saturday morning cartoons in ages so I'm not exactly used to tuning in. Maybe I'll catch it this Saturday, if I happen to get up by 9 AM, that is.

I see they changed the original theme song to a different instumental theme. (Guessin' they thought it sounded too much like Yin Yang Yo's theme?) Other than that, Great design, Okay animation, Good stories, Overall decent.

This show's kinda cute and funny. Not nearly as cute and funny as Pucca, but it's not bad. I like the boar character best, with the bossy bunny coming in a close second.

Oh, I agree, Skunk Fu is a hell of a lot better than YYY IMO, for all the reasons you noted. Yin and Yang get on my nerves, but none of the characters of SF do. They're all actually...likeable. Wow, that's rare in a new toon nowadays...

I'm going to say I hated every minute of it. I closed my eyes and couldn't tell if I was watching this or Viva Pinata....The Dialogue is pretty much the same, and the characters are pretty similar too.
I couldn't even give it 2 episodes. I usually give something 2 episodes to get me to watch it on a regular basis, but this was just bland, uninterresting, and unwatchable by every stretch.
Ninja Monkeys? Great concept wasted.

Well, I managed to watch it this morning. While I like the designs and the animation isn't too bad for Flash, I didn't laugh at all. The first episode consisted of the skunk trying to scare the opponent into submission by grunting and groaning like stereotypical Schwarzanegger. That's kind of old hat, isn't it? I mean, grunting like Arnold isn't exactly fresh ground.

They changed the excellent Ghostface Killah theme to some generic Asian martial arts music. Booooo.
