John Delaney's Sketch of the Week #7

Welcome to "John Delaney's Sketch of the Week"!

Out of the kindness of his art, John Delaney is doing something big for the fans - an exclusive weekly sketch for the fans who frequent Toon Zone! Gathered here are all the pictures John has drawn to date.

Every week, he will draw a new picture based on the results of the poll. That means that *we* fans choose what the image will be!

The contest will begin every Monday, and end at 5pm the following Friday, giving fans a solid five days to choose. You can only vote ONCE! John will then draw the sketch over the weekend and we'll present at the beginning of the following week. The characters must be animation/comic characters drawn in the Animated style, and if you have any requests for future polls, send me an email with your ideas! Keep an eye out on the Comics Forum for all the latest action!

Well it was a very hard choice between Goliath and Green Goblin for me, but I went with Goblin in the end seeing as a lot of Spider-Man hype is around.

I didn't vote for Sailor Moon, but I must admit, it would be mighty interesting to see her in the DC animated style. Very interesting...Then again, I want Green Arrow to win. :)

Arm-Fall-Off-Boy is a failed Legion applicant whose super power consists of the ability to pull his own arm off and use it as a club to subdue villains.

And here are the only pictures I'm currently able to locate, although Brian does have the original comic.... If I can ever get through all our boxes to get to that one ish....

its story arcs spanned 3 seasons and greg w. had spinoffs and continued arcs planned if not for Disney's GREED

Already Invader Zim is losing popularity? Man, that 15 minutes went quick. It placed 4th in the TZ Top Ten Cartoon Series (which you will see the results very shortly) and now it is barely competing with the others! :eek:

I don't know, not sure if people who post on this board are necessarly "Zim" fans, not to say there aren't any on this specific board. It's only Monday. IMHO, I wouldn't want to see Zim drawn because it's too cartoonish for what Mr. Delaney draws.

Since I could have voted for just about anybody on that poll, I had a coinflip-off and Sailor Moon won. I was rather suprised to see her in the lead though. I just hope that all the campaining from the last poll doesn't happen again.

Same here. Although it would be interesting to see an anime character in non-anime style, but I would rather see a bunch of others on the poll sketched. :)

Right now I am SO torn between either Zim or Goliath. And Sailor Moon is also tempting, if only to see her drawn in a different style. Of course there was the Bruce Timm TNBSA style poster for WzardCon about two years ago...

Dang this one's a tough choice, usually I know right away who I'm voting for. At any rate even if my first choice (when I can decide on one) doesn't win the poll I know I won't be disappointed with John's first rate treatment of the winner.

On one hand, Zim is, or was my favorite animated show on TV :mad:, but on the other Harley is one of my fav DC characters, nut on the other hand it would be cool to see SM in a DCU style. If only we could have a Zim vs. Harley vs. Sailor Moon pic, but I think that would overwhelm poor John :p I think I'll hold off on voting till later in the week for a close call.

The magic of Zim is that he is in j. v.'s style. As interesting as he would be in the animated form, I think that it wouldn't translate too well. Ditto with Sailor Moon.

I just wanted to say that I totally respect those who have voted for Sailor Moon. Yes, many of us can't stand her, but I have nothing against people voting for who they prefer the most. Stylistically, it should be interesting to see how John interprets her in an "Adventures" style. Then again, I really don't want this poll becoming anime-oriented. There are other sites for that...

Well, I actually haven't *seen* Gargoyles (maybe 2/3 of an episode), so I really can't comment on it too much, but if I'm thinking of the correct character, that definitely could be a cool sketch.

And hey, the biblical Goliath could make for a cool sketch as well. Just think- with John's inking... I can definitely see it.... :)

I finally narrowed it down to Green Arrow & Goliath, and as much as I would love to see Neal Adams' GA done Animated-Style by our INCREDIBLY talented Mr. Delaney, I think I've got to go with GOLIATH. Great Show. GREAT character. I can't help thinking about how cool it would be to see Batman perched on a Gargoyle like Goliath !!

Gargoyles (pre ABC) was up there with Batman:TAS as one of my favorite cartoons ever. I have the majority of episode son tape, although I'm missing 5 - 10 of them, I think. I'd be cool to see it in the animated style...but [b[Green Arrow[/b] in the animated style is too tempting to pass up!!

I find that kind of funny becuase the first episode of the Goliath Chronicles was actually written by good 'ol Greg himself. Granted a lot of them are not up to par with the legendary Gargoyles series but every once in a while even a blind squirrel finds a nut (I think there are like to eps of Goliath Chronicles I actually enjoy - one of them was written by Greg). Toon Disney is currently airing the Goliath Chronicles at night - should be back to the good stuff by next week tho :)

I figured as much - just trying to say that not all of them were as bad as people thought (all tho some were). I thought the Quarrymen was a kewl idea and my fave ep is when Faylog and the rest of the clones are all turned to stone. Faylog- such a great character!

Wow, it's a close one between Goliath and Green Arrow. Although she started out strong, it looks like Sailor Moon is out of this race. While Sailor Moon had 9 or 10 votes, Goliath had 0. He's really come back. Go Green Arrow!

A little over 24 hours to go. Given the rollicking races we've had in the past, that's plenty of time for anything to happen. I doubt SM will get back in the race, but GA, Goliath and Harley are all definitely still in contention.

The poll is now tied at 24. I wanted Green Arrow to win because there has never been an animated version of him, but I really don't mind if Goliath wins. I was a huge fan of the original "Gargoyles" series.

I know Jim Harvey wanted to see Green Arrow win, but if he wants to see Delaney handle that character in animated style, there were two issues of Adventures in the DC Universe that featured him. Goliath will most defiantly make one fine sketch of the week! :) Dang. Now I'm all nostalgic for Gargoyles and wishing I had Toondi$ney, or that Di$ney would released Gargoyles on DVD. Heck, I'd even buy the Goliath Chronicles...

and speaking of Harley--- are they planning to put her in that upcoming Batman film? They had better not screw it up! Harley is a doll and the last thing we need is an awful actress slaughtering the role on film!

For now...no Harley in the next film. It'll be a Year One Batman film. I was actually surprised that Harley didn't win either. Provides an interesting twist to the polls. Not anything is certain anymore...

I actually thought it would come down to Harley and Green Arrow, but I guess there are more Gargoyles fans out there than I thought, me being one of them :wakko:. I've also noticed that these polls are using more obscure characters every week, so I'm really curious to see who will be in the next one.
