I absolutely love Psych. It's currently one of my favorite shows. I don't watch Monk though.

I love Monk but I usually miss it. I'll watch Psych when I catch it, but I don't find it nearly as entertaining as Monk.

I liked the first couple seasons of Monk, but then the show had too much of a shift in tone, and I tuned out. The departure of Bitty Schram was the final nail for me.
Psych looks like it could be amusing, but I haven't checked it out yet. But USA is making me lose faith in their original series, especially after they butchered The Dead Zone (my favorite show on TV) with the current season. :(

Monk is ok. I can watch an episode now and then but not often. Psych I cannot stand, the characters come off way to cliche for my tastes.
I prefer Burn Notice.

Yeah. Pretty much everything he said

I've watched Monk from the beginning. I loved the first two seasons with Bitty Schram but the show has remained good even after that.
I watched Psych for about six episodes then quit watching. I really tried to like it because I liked the premise. I guess what really wore on me was that Shawn didn't come across as a brilliant detective to me so much as that the writers dumbed down all of the rest of the characters to make him look brilliant, by comparison.
And yeah, I realize that my complaint about Psych can sometimes be true about Monk, too (though not nearly as often). But to me, Monk is more about Adrian's personal struggles than it is about solving crimes. Psych doesn't offer anything like that for me.

On Monday, they reshow Monk and Psych, but the bad part is that they show a 12 and 1 in the morning (after Raw and Burn Notice).

I've watched both since their start. I've been an extra Monk fan for so long it's sad. I often miss the episodes the past year, but I usually catch them in the reruns or marathons, which works out nicely. Of course, the fact of Monk is that Sharona > Natalie. I think everyone knows. =P
Oh, random bit of coolness, too, is that my father knows one of Shaloub's brothers. They're friends. xD
As for Psych, I find it amusing, but there's this overall 'lame sitcom' kind of feel that it just can't shake, most of the time. Still a good show, but it could be better, I think. I watch that every week. =d

I've been a big fan of Monk from the beginning. I'd like to see a little more on Monk's continuing case, the murder of his wife Trudy. It's been a long time since any progress has been made. Considering that some progress has been made in the case (e.g., finding the man hired to kill Trudy), I'd rather the case not go unsolved.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I like Natalie much more than Sharona. She's not as easily frustrated by Monk's oddities and doesn't complain as much. When Monk goes too far, she's firm but not loud. I never really understood why Monk kept Sharona around, other than his fear that he wouldn't be able to replace her of course.

I watch that every week. =dTotally agree with you on that point. The show has its moments, but is kept down with a lame feeling. If you ask me, they need to stop the overacting in the psychic moments (would Shawn really be less credible if he just said his clues and got it over with?). The show has promise, but is just too silly sometimes.

Yeah, Natalie's my pick over Sharona.
Also, Psych's over-the-top attitude is one of the reasons I like it so much, not only that but also because the performance is genuin between Hill and Rodney.

I watched all but a few episodes of Psych season 1, but I have been unable to come back for season 2. I work almost every Friday night, and I can't record Psych since it's that or Friday Night SmackDown! The rerun of Psych is on against Ani-Monday where I'm at, so I don't catch it then since it's that or Kyle XY being recorded, and I prefer Kyle XY. I've never enjoyed Monk's premise. I've never been able to sit through a whole episode. It bores me. I wish they had Psych at a better time though.

Monk is a little too boring for me but Psych is rather good. However, the best of the USA shows has to be Burn Notice in my opinion.

I believe they repeat the following morning.
Nope. Sat. morning begins with WWE AM Raw and then goes straight into movies. They used to air it Sat. AM, but now all their shows only have one encore, with Burn Notice, Psych, and Monk being Monday night/ Tuesday morning after RAW, 4400 being Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning, and Dead Zone beign Wednesday night/ Thursday morning. Burn Notices premiers are Thursday, Monk and Psych Friday, and 4400 and Dead Zone Sunday. It won't matter in a few weeks when they all have a mid-season break until January, since the Fall premiers start next month.
I'm more of a Burn Notice man myself but if its like a Sunday afternoon and theres nothing else on I'll watch an episode of Psych.

i absolutely enjoyed the first season of psyche. it was a rather entertaining show. for some reason that i can't quite put my finger on, season 2 doesn't seem to be as good. maybe it's because season 1 was more clue based when it came to solving crimes and season 2 is more "find a clue, make a random guess, and see if we're right" based

I watched the premiere episode and the George Takei episode of Psych. Couldn't stand them.
Which is really sad, because I love the premise, and at the time I was desperately searching for a non-serialized show that I could get into. But the main character acts way too pretentious for me to care about him. I realize that's the point, but when a series refuses to let me empathize with the main character, that's a huge turn-off. I will not tune in every week to watch a stuck-up, stubborn know-it-all unless he uses a cane and makes snarky put-downs while suppressing an English accent in a hospital.
The great things Psych has going for it is the "antagonist," or should I say the Gladys Kravitz of the series, the Mr. Bean-ish detective who is positive the guy's a phony but can't prove it. His delivery is absolutely perfect. And it's wonderful to see Dulé Hill in another major role. The chemistry he has with the lead is great.
But yeah, it just puts me off.

I like both shows. I only started watching Monk two seasons ago, but I've watched Psych from the beginning. They're both a lot of fun.

Shawn seems to have a struggle about trying to prove himself to his father but trying not to come off that way. He won't admit it, but he wants his father to be proud of him and his skills. That's hardly as much of the show's focus as Monk's mental health problems are, but it's still there.
Of course, the fact of Monk is that Sharon > Natalie. I think everyone knows. =P
Only if you're talking about Sharon Carter Donnelly.

Yeah, I liked the flashbacks of Shawn as a kid in the pilot. The part with his Dad training him to be a detective were really good. The doghouse bit was good, too. But those parts are few and far between.
The "dumb" cops bit bothers me, too, I guess. They take it beyond them missing clues; they showed them coming up with theories even more ridiculous than Shawn's "psychic" routines.
Oh yeah, and Sharona (Bitty Schram) will always be my favorite Monk sidekick. Natalie is good, too, but she doesn't have the edge that Sharona had.

I started watching Monk at the top of season 5 last year, because the premise for the Stanley Tucci season premiere episode sounded too good to pass up. I've also caught several reruns from previous seasons since then, and I find that Natalie is superior to Sharona in every way possible (not the least of which is the casting of Traylor Howard). Both assistants are strict with Monk, but Natalie is also funny and nurturing, where Sharona just seemed to be very humorless and pissed off all the time. I also prefer the Randy Newman theme.
I started watching Psych when it premiered last year because of all the commercials during Monk. And I started watching Burn Notice this year for the same reason.
All three shows are excellent, and I love them.

I haven't seen Monk, but Psych is hilarious. After watching the season premiere, I was automatically hooked. It's now on my list of favorite shows; unfortunately I don't have cable, so I'll have to rely on video sites.

But the USA real series that I love to watch is Burn Notice, that show is so slick and good it is unbelievable. Burn Notice and Euraka (on Sci-fi) are really the only two new live action series that I really look forward to watching.

I try to watch Monk but I usually forget, even though I like the show. Pysch is fun and cute, and I like the 80s flashbacks (being a child of the 80s :)), and I'm usually better at remembering to watch this one for some reason.

Every Psych episode does start off with a flashback of young Shawn doing something and his father having to teach him a lesson that ends up being relevant to the episode. I think it adds something important to the series.

Yeah, the 80s thing really does help. And the Sean-and-gus pop cultural reference stuff. Makes it feel like my generation is finally coming of age--writing its own stuff and being nostalgic for its own childhood.
I've never watched Monk, but I've been a fan of Psych for a while now. Though some of the criticisms mentioned here are pretty valid. It does have an odd feel to it, and the cast is extremely limited. Really, there are only six main characters and one 'recurring' character. Still, two of those characters (Lassiter and Sean) are great, and overal, its pretty funny. The episodes are hit and miss, but some of the hits have been absolutely hilarious. Like the recent Dinosuour episode, if my opinion counts for anything.
I'll also add my vote of appreciation for "Burn Notice." I started watching becaus some blog mentioned Bruce Campbell was on it, but the show has a whole lot more that going for it. Though speaking of USA shows, I seem to remember an add for "Underfunded" a while back. (About the underfunded Canadian spy agency, if I recal) Should I assume that show died a quick and painless death?
