With the massive bulk of fanfic sites, I just find it hard to find some good storries these days. Are there any recommended Fanfics that anyone have read?
For organization purposes, it best to put what show(s) are featured, what genre, and what makes it recommended. Also, nothing that violates forum rules (keep it at least PG-13).

In my experience, "good fanfiction" is an oxymoron.

I would recommend staying far away from fanfics, considering what most of them are about nowadays. Not to mention people always butcher the characters, always. I've never seen a fanfic where the character is actually executed in the same way which the author would. People like to change character's personalities around.

Ok guys, I understand that the current state of fanfics. But odds are, there are some good fics. Lets avoid giving critism of fanfics in general.

You know, I don't mind it if personalities are changed slightly, as long as it's done tastefully and it fits the fanfic (for example, a parody fic might have one character OOC as a gag). I should know... I've done fics that keep characters in-character and out slightly. The thing is finding a balance, and making sure if one is writing someone OOC, it isn't something outlandish that no one in their right mind would think of writing them that way.
But, frankly, as writers, most of us can't help but change character's personalities to our whims. I mean, everyone has their own interpretation, their own way that they see a character. And it's fantasy. The idea most of the time is that writers will want characters the way they see them, even if that's not the way they act in the show. You might see a 'Naruto' fic where Sakura beats Naruto and Sasuke at the same time, at full fighting strength, and 98 out of 100 people will berate the writer with 'Sakura is useless' comments and such. But then the writer will get that 1 or 2 who agree with her, thinking either Sakura is that strong or should be that strong. And in the technical matter of speaking, there's nothing wrong with that.
On the other hand, there are a handful of writers out there who do make a concerted effort to keep every character the same way it's written in the series. There are people who painstakingly look at every sentence they type out and wonder 'hmmm, would so and so really do this or take that action?' Because of 'fan' being in fanfic, these types of writers are very few and far between.
I understand your disdain for fanfics... I mean, you've got the whole fanfic writing fandom in a nutshell there. A huge majority do it to satisfy their thoughts and views on their favorite (or not so favorite) characters. I agree that if you can't accept that... or can't write your own decent fanfic to save your life... that you should stay out of the fandom. 'Cause you'll never be satisfied with any work of fanfiction. If you know what you're expecting and this isn't it, then save yourself the frustration and stay out of the fandom. It's not worth it for you or the writers whose stories you read, anyway.
An actual recommendation: Follow the first link in Freedom Fighter's sig, go into "Reality Style", and read a fic called "Mystery Solvers", it's one of the best stories I've ever read.

I don't intend on reading anymore fanfics as you've already seen. Characters' personalities should not be changed because then they are an entirely different character. I've seen people change Gaara from the cold, destructive, killing machine that he is and turn him into some shy, little-brother-esque figure, and that disgusts me. A character shouldn't be butchered in such a manner.

With the exception of a few fancomics, I avoid the stuff like the plague.
However years ago, i did read funny Digimon fanfics done by the guy who runs the Digimon Encyclopedia.
Check it out here (http://digipedia.db-destiny.net/misc/fanfic.htm).

Digimon:
Ascension (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/92470/1/)
by Chris McFeely
McFeely excels at the hillarious scriptfic, but Ancension is a more traditional literary style and more serious. Fast paced, with alot of action and fun, though not perfect. Also, it's alternative universe (it was writen before 02) Still, a good read.
Reality Flux: Bolo and Digimon (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3462524/1/Reality_Flux_Bolo_and_Digimon)
By Gregory P. Wong
Basically a crossover between Digimon and the Bolo sf series. Featuring original characters, though related to the Tamer's continunity. Surprisingly well written, an average plot and it could use more discriptions of the setting, but good quality of grammar and storytelling not seen on FF.net these days.

I don't know about that being completely true. I read a Dragonball Z fic which dealt with Hercules/Mr. Satan allowing Gohan to date Videl. Not because of him being exceptionally strong, but because:
The "cool" poses that Gohan pulls off as The Great Saiyaman. I could actually see that happening in the canon.

In my experience exaggerated and distorted characters work if it's a really good parody.
Like this one for instance: http://www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php?t=1825&start=0
Every Gundam SEED (heck, Gundam period) joke in the book and it references everything from the Simpsons to the Hulk besides.

I kind of agree with you, characters personalities shouldn't be changed for the sake of the fanfic.
I read a fanfic once with Negima/One Piece but couldn't get past the first 2 chapters because of what the author did to Luffy's personality, changing him from stupid to somewhat love struck.
Also, I tend to avoid fanfics that introduce OCs or cases where the author and friends encounter anime characters.

Ive only written like 4 fanfics, all were one chapter to what could have been a good story, but i gave up.
I can only think of one good fanfic that was my first and the best ive ever read, the ones written by this guy:
http://www.fanfiction.net/u/61213/Zinegata
I would suggest looking into both "The Forgotten Fleet" and "Last sons of Delaz" if your a fan of the Gundam franchise or just getting into it (as i did when i read these back in my freshman year of HS). He was working on a Zeta Gundam era fanfic but i dont think he ever finished them...

Ryusaki of POJO forums has written three very funny fanfics about three of the most underappreciated characters of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Ryuzaki's Bizzare Adventure (http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=201011)
Plan Roba from Outer Space (http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=264070)
Ryôta to the Center of the Earth (http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=354317)
Note that each link leads only to the first chapter of each series, you'll have to dig up the rest of them over at the board.
