By Bill Banks
This Thursday night, Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling returns with “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV at 9PM! The below is an early preview of what will take place on the huge broadcast as TNA prepares for the upcoming August 12 “Hard Justice” Pay-Per-View:
JIM CORNETTE PROMISES A SURPRISE FOR CHRISTIAN CAGE, AJ STYLES & TOMKO
TNAwrestling.com has learned that based on what happened this past week involving Christian Cage, AJ Styles and Tomko assaulting Sting and Abyss, TNA management director Jim Cornette has promised a surprise for Cage and his crew on Thursday night. The only bit of information Cornette will offer up is that his surprise involves a ladder!
KURT ANGLE PROMISES TO TAKE THE ADVICE OF DR. NASH
This past week, the world witnessed Kurt Angle seeking advice from Dr. Kevin Nash concerning his life and career. Apparently, Dr. Nash told Angle that he needs to relax and enjoy life more, which involves reconnecting with his family. TNAwrestling.com has learned that the TNA World Heavyweight Champion has taken Nash’s advice to heart and will in fact be spending more time with his wife and daughter – starting Thursday night on “iMPACT!”. That’s right – Kurt Angle is bringing his family to Thursday’s broadcast!
TRIPLE X’S SENSHI & THE FALLEN ANGEL VS. “BLACK MACHISMO” JAY LETHAL & “THE GURU” SONJAY DUTT
Also this Thursday night, the newly reformed Triple X returns to action as Senshi and “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels will team up to take on “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal and “The Guru” Sonjay Dutt!
ALSO THIS THURSDAY NIGHT ON “iMPACT!” ON SPIKE TV:
- Former TNA World Tag Team Champions Team 3D will be back in action this Thursday night! Can Brother Ray and Brother Devon begin the road back to the tag team gold? Will The Steiner Brothers be in attendance as the war between the two legendary tag teams continues? Tune in and find out!
- In addition, Dustin Rhodes is scheduled to be in attendance this Thursday night in the Impact Zone. The question is, will Dustin unveil this “alter-ego” he talked about during his sitdown interview with Mike Tenay? Will we get a glimpse of what Dustin has planned this Thursday night?
All this and much more this Thursday night on TNA “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV starting at 9pm!

This angle family biz is a bit troubling. It reminds me in a way of the Benoit family and their disputes. I know its probably a coincidence but still the thought of a wrestler having problems with his family reminds me of Benoit. I just hope he doesn't reference a dog or something.
What a horrible ending with the marriage being "over". What horrible timing after the Benoit deal. Once again its times like this that i wish TNA would have the same scrutiny as WWE. Coupled with the debut of Andrew Martin who had some issues with certain supplements and of course the Pacman crap and TNA really may have crossed the line with their new tactics.

I understand where you (and pretty much everyone else on the Internet) is coming from, but honestly, it didn't come off as Benoit at all. That being said, I don't think the "panic button" soap opera crap is needed. Joe wanting to pound Angle's head in should be enough. As for Test, I think he looked pretty good (healthy) tonight. Maybe he can stay off the juice.

"The Punisher" Andrew Martin? What am I being punished for? Seriously, I'll give him a shot. If TNA can make me like Tomko, there's hope. WWE's run by monkeys these days, and maybe Martin was just one good booking run away from being a favorite. Not having to call him 'Test' anymore is already one step forward.

I don't think it's panic button...this Angle/Joe feud has been taking some odd turns since it's beginning, such as the point where Joe had a girlfriend and Angle used her to get a match.
I somehow imagine though that Karen could be used at Hard Justice to help Kurt win with her own little heel turn, but who knows where else they'll try and take it.
Other than that ending promo, I enjoyed the show for the most part. The best part was when VKM didn't appear on my screen!:D

It's not TNA's fault that Chris Benoit was a sociopath. Unless Kurt Angle is going to murder his family and then cowardly commit suicide, there is nothing wrong with this storyline.
What did Angle's do that was so disgraceful? Wow! He said his wife was fat.

Team 3D as heels? Where's Runt while this is going on? Decent opener, but all three matches tonight, as usual, deserved more time.
Has Kurt Angle lost his mind? Him wearing the shades and the suit made me think of Kevin Spacey as Luthor in "Superman Returns" last year. I don't like the timing of him bringing Karen into the mix along with their daughter, a month after the Benoit murders. Between them, Jarrett, Russo, Mantel, & Angle have a collective IQ under 100 right now. Angle is dominating Impact when he should be checking his ego at the door. I just hope for everyone's sake Samoa Joe beats him at Hard Justice and puts an end to this insanity.
You know what would rock my world? Triple X vs. Team 3D vs. the Steiners in an old school 3-way dance.
Andrew Martin, "The Punisher"? Well, it worked for a pre-Undertaker Mark Calloway about 20 years ago......!
I can see it now, less than 6 months from now. Martin vs. Lance Hoyt for the love of Christy Hemme.:D
Yo, Kevin Nash. The Screen Actors Guild called. They want your membership card.
Remember when Kane started to talk? I'm getting that same vibe from Abyss.
Someone should call Travis Tomko's agent. If Vin Diesel doesn't want to do certain movies, maybe Tomko can step in. Not much difference.:p ;)

That was way too fast-paced even by TNA's standards, and they ended up having to announce new match stips in the show-closing video package, instead of making them seem meaningful. None of the matches meant ****, and the only thing any of them did was establish that 3D has one new move - a spike piledriver.
Tenay stating that TNA's making national headlines and then telling people to subscribe to TNA Mobile was pure ********, as was hyping up a Joe interview, and then just using it to plug TNA Mobile. The whole show was built around Kurt being an *******, and he was funny in these skits, but this is not the month to be doing an angle built around a wrestler being abusive towards his wife and kid.
This PPV main event for five "world" titles, featuring TNA's best-known feud in Joe vs. Angle turning into a soap opera, with the titles being secondary reminds me of the horribly-botched Jericho-HHH WM X8 build built around HHH and Steph, with Jericho, the world champion, as a supporting player. It's quite sad, and I found it even more impossible to take anything seriously in this show.
Thank God TNA can be counted on for providing unintentional comedy, like Tenay acting like the debut of Andrew Martin was the equivalent of Christ's resurrection happening in the Impact Zone, stating that Sting got an enormous reaction while he came out to complete silence, and Tenay being stunned that a Thesz press didn't finish a match, while Don hypes the move up as the epitome of TNA Wrestling. Amazingly, Don was still the most subdued performer on the show. Mike Tenay acting like Andy Samberg is a name that everyone on Earth knows ruled, too.
Shockingly, this show featured about 18 minutes of wrestling. It sure didn't seem like that while watching it, given that the 'wrestling' action meant absolutely nothing, and was just a backdrop to the angles.
They also couldn't find time to have Scott Steiner cut a promo, or build the realistic Rhino-Storm feud up (seemingly the only feud in the company rooted in reality), but figured out a way to have Bobby Roode deliver an incredible beating (that we never saw), tar and feather a dimwit, while stating that the vile beating on Abyss "at least equaled" one that resulted in him being completely covered in blood - burying the beating he took last week. At least Don acknowledged the logic flaw of having Abyss show up just fine by acting like it's an example of how tough he is. That was far better than AJ just being completely fine mere days after being tossed off the top of a 15-foot high cage to the floor.
What a disaster this show was. Entertaining, but a disaster.

I really wish they'd start using the roster that they have instead of adding new people every month. They only have so much time. It's partially why I've never picked up a TNA PPV. Half the matches, while good, severely lack build-up.
That said, though, I'm not too upset that they added Test. He's always been pretty decent for his size. Then again, they already had their version of Test in Hoyt, so who knows.

Oh, EinBebop. Raven. You and your jokes.
Sweet. Test. And teamed with Sting and Abyss, no less.
Why is Angle's plotline the main feature? Why do they expect us to find it interesting? And why are we to believe Nash is a shrink?

Oh, EinBebop. Raven. You and your jokes. No, I was actually quite serious about that. Raven was an commentator for the 'B'-level shows alongside Gorilla Monsoon fifteen years ago. He was really good, but WWF only wanted him to do that instead of wrestle, so he quit. Borash being a pretty entertaining guy as well, I think they'd have a good chemistry together.

I never thought about the Benoit tragedy during Angle's stuff. It was so silly and over the top that I don't think you can draw comparisons.
Daniels and Skipper vs. AMW in 6 sides of steel was the match that got me into TNA so I like seeing XXX reform. If they can use the stable to push Daniels to the main event, all the better.
Never liked Test and TNA has enough enforcers so imo this is a bad pick up.
TNA needs to work on their camera angles and replays. Some of the spots in the ladder match were not shown properly. Not as bad as they've done with some of the gimmick matches in the past, but if they copy anything from wwe then it should be their production style and directing.

Q1. Because Angle and Joe hold every title within TNA, and seeing Angle act like a jerk draws heat.
Q2. See the first answer.
Q3. You don't watch TNA much, I'm guessing? Nash (in TNA) would also have us believe that he is the highest drawing WWF champ in history and that he is also a Black man who ALWAYS uses the race card. In other words, find a sense of humor and laugh a little.:p

So I actually didn't think of Benoit at all during the show. I guess WWE's ignore plan must be working on me or something. It's terrible what happened, but I'd rather move on than dwell. I thought more about that fact that her appearance implies that Kurt and Karen are in a 'good place' again. While we don't actually know of course, it seems like they have had their share of problems. Hopefully TNA really is good for Kurt Angle the person.
That being said, I didn't necessarily like Angle's interaction with his wife and daughter, but it was pretty much the standard for these types of stories. I was not offended, but I was more bothered than entertained that Kurt was being so mean to his wife. Angle and Joe are such good wrestlers that this seems like a waste of their talents, but that doesn't stop the crack TNA writing staff. Nash wasn't really even able to brighten this storyline.
So the 'tar and feathering' Eric Young got from Robert Roode (who still won't leave him alone) was something we have "seen for years" according to Mike Tenay? What years? 1950-1970?
With that hype from Borash before the short Joe interview, TNA Mobile is officially the WCW Hotline. Which in this day and age is so incredibly pathetic it's beyond sad. The WCW and WWF versions were eventually phased out and there was a reason for it. I don't know much about WWE Mobile because they're respectful enough not to pimp it every 15 minutes, but giving fans an advance on stuff that will be on their website is not nearly as dumb as claiming it's the only place I can found out about Pacman Jones.
I know TNA doesn't have as much cash on hand, but Sonjay's entrance shows how cheap they can be. If WWE had a character like that, he would at least have one girl who threw those rose petals before him. Not just because it adds eye candy, but because it just doesn't make sense for someone to throw their own rose petals.
After I got over that, the match wasn't too bad. TNA going for the X Division tag teams could be really cool.
I was really enjoying the ladder match until it had to have Tomko and ANDREW MARTIN!!!11 in it. TNA tries to act like 'they are wrestling' and I have a hard time enjoying the main event by the time it's over. I know WWE does it too, but to me at least it doesn't always feel the same.
So I guess TNA isn't going to take the risk of Andrew "Test" Martin, even though I'm pretty sure the guy actually changed his name so he could use it on at least the indy scene. Doesn't make "The Punisher" any better though. Just the real name will be fine, thanks.

Borash being a pretty entertaining guy as well, I think they'd have a good chemistry together.I liked your idea too. In addition to the work 'Johnny Polo' did in the WWF with Gorilla, I also thought Raven was doing really well when he was on HEAT with Coach a few years ago. Once again he left to wrestle and WWE released him not too much after that.

Raven also did good hosting Confidential as well. For the, like, month he did it. So the guy has a decent working background in commentating.
That's why I was cool with Seratonin at first. Because it meant Raven in a more managerial, talking role, which he's always been gold at. But then they never used them, much less Raven, and now he's back to a wrestling role again vs. Kaz.

Actually, Raven was co-hosting Excess (again w/Coach) during that period. Confidential replaced Excess.
Right now, he's being wasted since Serotonin hasn't won a match on camera yet. Needs to lose the goofy attire.

The "Test" name thing is probably similar to Waltman's deal with WWE, where he can use his WWE moniker on another show, but not on a company's TV show. Or maybe it's like the Ultimate Warrior issue, where even though Warrior changed his legal name to Warrior, he was still limited in how he could use the Ultimate Warrior moniker outside of WWE. I'm glad that he has a different name, although it's too early to see if it's truly a new gimmick or if it's just going to play the same basic character with a different name.

The fact angel and joe has the all the belt is stupid. It makes all the other wrestlers look like idiots. In a few weeks only 1 will have all 5? I hope they do something whit test. I`m glad the 3D boys are heels. And I agree that tenay and west should be canned.
