This is the talkback thread for "The Marvel Super Heroes": Classic Comics in Suspended Animation (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=18200).
This is exactly what Marvel needs to do again in an updated contemporary fashion. Get off the crutchy redundancy of Spider-Man, X-Men, and even the waaaay overrated Fantastic Four properties and focus on Avengers characters. I would have no problem with an actual AVENGERS UNLIMITED series from the playbook of Bruce Timm and co with Captain America running the show of course.

Great review, Jon. That Iron Man set now sorely tempts me! I can't recall ever seeing it, and I've really started getting into Iron Man lately.

Marvel actually owns the rights to The Avengers, but Spider-Man, The X-Men and Daredevil and many other characters probably wouldn't be available to them. We'll probably never ever get The Avengers Unlimited cartoon you desire.

Glad to see you liked the review Stu! Iron Man's definitely worth watching, especially with John Vernon doing his voice; he was by far the best actor working on these shows. And Tempest, you're absolutely right in that Marvel needs to somehow create a series that truly does justice to the concept of a "Marvel Universe".
I only appreciated the comparison of The Marvel Super Heroes with Justice League Unlimited after having watched all of the latter show earlier this year, and appreciating the amazing consistency going on there. To an extent, that happens in the various Marvel Super Heroes episodes as well, such as keeping the voice actors consistent for all the characters guest-starring in each others' shows.
The only sad thing is that to really do justice to the series, every episode of each series would have to be released in a complete DVD boxset (for 65 episodes). Disney were going to do that in 2005 before they unfortunately backed off from all the Marvel series they own. Yet another missed opportunity!

ah.. I'd love to have all of them on a Region 1 (or 0) dvd set.. the discs could be double-sided, that'd be fine with me.. I wonder if there's any way to let the Marvel Studios folks know at the San Diego Comic Con?

No doubt Marvel would want to release their catalogue of Marvel cartoons and would if they could. It's a no-brainer at how well these would sell given the contstant live-action tie-ins and big comic events to spark interest in sales.

Oh man, I remember watching these on the Marvel Comics Video Library tapes I rented from the video store all the time. I especially loved the Captain America episodes.
I would buy these in an instant but the PAL-to-NTSC problems worry me.
Anyone know a good region-free DVD players that converts the PAL signal to NTSC?

Say, anyone know if the old 60's Marvel animated shows are getting shown at all on Disney XD or any other channels? Seems like it would be a cool way to build up buzz for an eventual DVD release of them.. ;)

I feel pretty certain that these will never air on XD; The only pre-1990 series I've ever seen them air is Amazing Friends. Personally, I've never seen these on tv at all.
Any type of release would be cool imo but I can only assume that there would be very little demand for them.

As a goodly portion of the Captain America serial was actually Avengers stories, I'd love to see them again (I've seen them all once or twice over the years in various venues).
