This is the talkback for the various Annihilation: Conquest related books.
http://www.marvel.com/comics/onsale/covers/0607/Annhilation.jpg (http://www.marvel.com/)
Previously in Annihilation.
It was the darkest times in the galaxy. Devastating forces led by the tyrannical monster known as Annihilus swept through the cosmos, destroying everything in their path until a rag-tag group of heros including Nova, Peter Quill (the man once known as Star-Lord), and the new Quasar defeated them.
However, as they stood victorious, new struggles arose.
The sectors of the galaxy lie in tatters. The old order has changed. Entire civilizations have collapsed, or been reduced to stone age barbarism.
It is a time of paranoia and hardship, a time of despair anf grief and to some, a time of opportunity.
A new threat is rising, primed to attack. But destruction is not their goal, their objectives are far more dangerious, their numbers more legion, and their leaders more ruthless. Will this handful of heroes be able to stop the forces who seek Conquest.

Definately checked out Nova 4 this month.
Pretty interesting read especially the part at the end with the Kree refuges, and the possibility of a new Nova corps.
Haven't checked out Starlord yet but I'm also interested in seeing what Peter is up to.
P.S Anyone else kind of bummed that the Shiar aren't playing a big role in these Marvel Cosmic stories?

Prologue: Good setup and I did not expect the villain that was revealed to be the Phalanx.
Wraith: It was OK, but the art was not that great. I have not read Starlord yet, but this looks to be the weakest of the minis
Quasar: Very interesting start. The premise they setup at the end was a nice twist that added to the desperation of the situation.
Nova: Consistently one of the better single issue reads Marvel puts out each month.

I have to agree, though his "confrontation" with Penance was a bit of a let down. But yeah, Sean Chen's artwork is great, and the story's been a blast as well!
By the way, it was hinted yesterday at the San Diego Comic-Con, (by one of the Marvel Editors) that there was a "Big Bad" behind the Phalanx in this series. So there's another mystery villian out there behind all of this...

Really I absolutely loved issues 2 and 3 of Nova? I thought the writers did an awesome job of bringing together the Annihilation and Civil War related issues. I thought Rich trying to deal with his parents, and the fact that Earth has changed so much to be really interesting. The last eight pages of issue three were particularly gripping for me. Everything from Rich arguing with his parents, to him leaving for Hala. Really good drama there? You can't tell me that didn't get you Wonderfly? :p
I've also heard about a new Big bad in Conquest. Some people are speculating that they gave us a clue in the title. Annihilation had Annihilus so the assumption of some people is that Conquest involves a certain "Conqueror" (to the delight of Avengers fans maybe.:) )

I didn't say I didn't enjoy it, merely that I was disappointed in the confrontation between Nova and Penance. I subscribed to Nova going off of the cover to Issue #3 alone. I was promised a beatdown on Penance at the hands of Nova!! And all that they did was talk and Nova flew off in disgust.
But yeah, I enjoyed all other aspects of of the first few issues though. They did indeed do an excellent comparrison between Annihilaton and Civil War. Iron Man really came across as Emperor of America, and the whole "600 people in Stamford dead" vs. "Whole civilizations were destroyed" really proved how different the two storylines were.
I've also heard about a new Big bad in Conquest. Some people are speculating that they gave us a clue in the title. Annihilation had Annihilus so the assumption of some people is that Conquest involves a certain "Conqueror" (to the delight of Avengers fans maybe.:) )
Kang the Conqueror? I'm down with that!!!

Kang the Conqueror? I'm down with that!!!
Kang the Conqueror is down with Phalanx? I hope not. That would not make sense. I mean Phalanx are a higher life form, and do not look at Terrans as anything but annoyance. If the Space Knight Restitution fell to them, with Gamora and Ronan? why would Kang be any different? Even if its Immortus (later self of Kang) I still doubt it.
I, on the other hand enjoyed the Conquest this far. Nova was incredible from issue 1, I did expect a fight between Iron Man and Nova, but what they did made more sense than a senseless battle. Wraith is definitely the weakest of the bunch, but it is so much better that Ronan mini which made little sense at all in Annihilation.
I like what they did with Starlord. I can't wait to see what they do with Captain Universe. I just hope he will not get th Quasar treatment. I really like the character (since Captain universe mini), I hope he lives though Conquest.

I just read the Starlord issue, and it was a blast to read. A lot of great characters from the past and Giffen added his usual snarky humor to the mix.
I know some were not exactly happy that the Phalanx were the big bad behind the whole event so may it will help bring people to the fold. Marvel has so many great villains it could use that I am sure it will be fun.

So am I the only one here wondering where Adam Warlock is with all this cosmic maddness going on? I mean in the two Annihilation events so far we've had Thanos, Gamora (who I understand he was with for a time), and the Kree but no Adam.
What's going on?

What's going on?Well, he would not fit in into this mess of characters. Besides, I got tired of him being in the center of every cosmic event in the last 10 years. Thanos is dead, and he will most likely have no roles in Conquest. I would have liked Blastaar to have a bigger role in the Annihilation, not just a tiny cameo, but still. I hope Galactus and the heralds get involved in Conquest as well.

Quasar 2: Nice backstory on Moondragon, but the story seems a stalling to fit a four issue series.
Wraith 2: A better issue than the first. I am still not crazy about the art, but the background on the character did make the overall story more interesting.

Its Wraith, they said is several times.
Hmm, not that I would say "I told you so", but....
Overall the Quasar mini turned out to be a sword and sorcery story set in the back drop of the main story. This is the second throwback story telling technique tied to an Annihilation event. Last year's Ronan story had an old west feel too it neither were entirely successful, but Quasar's story at least seems to have more to do with the upcoming series.

Well, the main mini-series is underway now, so what do you guys think of the first issue? I enjoyed it, overall. I was skeptical of Tom Raney being the artist, but going off of the strength of this first issue, I think the artwork is in capable hands.
As for the big reveal: since when did the High Evolutionary and Ultron become space characters, (especially Ultron)! I thought it was a villain that made sense, but still, it's starting to become hard to keep track of how many different versions of Ultron there are out there...(there was the version in Runaways a couple years ago, there's the version in Mighty Avengers right now...)
I think of all the plotlines, the storyline involving Star Lord and his crew is the most interesting, (I love the depiction of Rocket Raccoon from the Star Lord mini-series).
Reed Richards

the High Evolutionary has been a space character for quite some time. Not sure why Warlock needed yet *another* reboot but I'm willing to give it a shot. It'l be interesting to see him use powers other than his now lost Soul Gem again.
is anyone else a little disappointed that the Surfer isn't involved in this? I really want some follow up to his new deal with Galactus
Kyuss

While Ultron isn't exactly one's first choice in a cosmic sense, he is, at least, a logical choice to be a kind of "Locutus" or "Borg King" of Marvel's own Borg.
In any case, the first issue was as I expected it to be. Decent but hardly awe inspiring. Certainly there were moments, but we will see as the series progress if it can match its predecessor's achievements.
