View Full Version : Anyone think Kids WB! will expand to 5 hours on Saturdays in the fall?

I have this thought going in my mind that Kids WB! could expand their Saturday block from 4 hours to a full 5 hour block(like what ABC does currently.) Here are two reasons as to why I have this theory.

1. A lot of product is coming to Kids WB this fall. You've got Scooby, Ninja Turtles, and Ozzie and Drixie. Plus a lot of the current product will likely return including Pokemen and Yu Gi Oh. Gotta have room to air this stuff.

But

2. A very good reason is that if ABC slims back it's Disneyfied block in favor of live reports from Afgahnastian a.k.a GMA as rumored, Saturday Mornings would be left without a straight foward 5 hour block, but rather staggered start times for all the networks. Kids are most certainly not going to like that and short of CBS saying we give up on our low rated newscast(which won't happen) it will leave a opportunity for someone to provide a 5 hour straight shot. Kids WB could sieze on that opportunity and expand the block to provide a straightfoward shot from 7 to noon. Nothing radical would have to happen either, as Kids WB has a lot of new product to contend with so most of the new product could just fit in the expanded one hour area.

Mabye I'm spewing nonsense, but does anyone see my theory happening?

They might as well they show cartoon material from 7 on.

The thing you have to keep in mind is any of the newer shows like "Ninja Turtles" etc. might not premiere in the fall, but mid-season. Also, there's a slight chance that the "Turtles" head to Cartoon Network, instead of Kids' WB! Otherwise, your ideas are good. I just think they should go for more quality, instead of more airtime. Focus on how to make the current block better, before expanding.

I doubt they will...

NBC has a three hour Sat. Morning Block, which starting this Fall is being run by the Discovery Channel. There's no Getting around it.

I dunno much about CBS or ABC, but I do know that in order to go 5 hours, WB would either Have to start an hour earlier (when no one is watching...it would be 7am Eastern, 6am Central..) or go an hour later..when Parents want to watch other things, or pull their kids from the TVs. I think that 4 hours is plenty of programming for kids on Sat. Mornings...that's 1/4 of the average waking day....and most kids sleep more than 8 hours daily.

And for going until 1 PM EST, a lot of affiliates are likely running local programming then---and won't want to sacrifice the ad dollars they'd get from selling local ads just to accomodate more "Immature Radioactive Samauri Slugs"---er, TMNT ;-) My local affiliate airs heavy amounts of state university basketball games, esp. on Saturdays starting at noon (and has been waaaay before WB was even a twinkling in anyone's eye), and would probably shove such an extra hour to some deadzone Sun. AM airing or something before carrying it live (over Purdue/IU basketball)...

Hey Hey, Men In Black is gonna be in there too and I have a feeling it will stay at WB. (it had better--- we finally got this damn channel!!)

What exactly does UPN air for shows? (does anyone remember a short thing some time back they aired--- animated, not saturday morning but like a later-on thing--- it was called Invasion America-- pretty nifty animation and 2 very cool books that never got finished I don't think. They aired that on UPN.

I saw something interesting a week ago. While I was in Florida last week, we went on the MIB ride at Universal Studios and they have a little poster at the exit of the ride that said something like "Watch MIB:The Animated Series Saturday mornings on KidsWB!" They hadn't even bothered to take the poster down and the show hasn't been on for a while now.

Anyway, sorry to get off topic. In my opinion, I don't think that KidsWB! will extend its Sat. block. They've gotten around that previoiusly by releasing new shows at different times.

Men In Black the animated series will be back Fall 2002--- thats why the poster is up.

Way back when, they pulled something similar for the Back to the future animated series-- they had some whole thing and it wasn't for months, but they advertised it.
