View Full Version : Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol 1 DVD Talkback (spoilers?)

The first volume of the weekday Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon has been released in a 22-episode box set. Special features include "How to Draw Sonic the Hedgehog" an an interview with Milton Knight, the designer of Dr. Robotnik.

FUN FACT: The idea for an interview with Milton Knight was suggested to the DVD producer by none other than myself. Yay for bragging! :D

Anyway, anyone pick it up?

About time someone made a topic about this. No, I haven't had a chance to pick this up yet but I will in a couple of hours.

Like I stated in the other topic:

I saw the episode listing for each DVD but they seem to be out of order. According to TV.com, they seem to list them in the way they were aired on television but the DVD's have all the episodes shuffled.

Can anyone explain!?

Also, I think they could've done better in the extras for this set. But no biggie, the episodes themselves are fun to watch and relive again.

Oh really!? Hmmmmm. It's gonna be odd watching them out of order since I was used to the way they were first aired on television. Also, I had most of the episodes taped on VHS too. I think I still have them too but the quality the the tapes are in poor shape now.

Anyways, these are the prices I'm seeing the set:

Amazon.com - $22.49
Target - $24.99
Best Buy - $24.99
Circuit City - $19.99

...which is actually something I find preferable. After all, "Sonic the Matchmaker" clearly comes after "Robotnik Jr." (the broadcast order switched them around).

Anyway, they are out of broadcast order, yes. However, whenever possible I prefer watching DVD TV releases in production order if there is no clear chronology, and "Adventures..." being released in production order is "way past cool".

Also, as far as I can tell, these are the original masters from the original 1993 broadcast, moral segments and all (including the one often parodied on YTMND...). I could tell, because at one point after the closing credits and DiC end title, I caught the first note of the first "Bohbot Entertainment Presents..." theme before for it was cut off (there were two themes). While I am kinda bummed that they cut the Bohbot Entertainment front and end titles (they have the words in question on a lighted marquee), I kinda understand, since Bohbot (now BKN) only has the TV rights which they sub-licensed from DiC (still, Bohbot/BKN was a co-producer as well). I imagine Shout! Factory licensed the show directly from DiC who no doubt owns the master license for the show.

So, here we have a DVD release where they didn't "cheap out" on the consumers. Everything is more or less exactly the way it was when it was first broadcast. The only real "catch" is that the DVDs can't handle 480p mode, so you'll have to set your DVD player to 480i mode to get the best resolution. I can only hope S!F actually finishes this series (they've yet to finish Inspector Gadget or Heathcliff). That said, here's to hoping we get the next two volumes soon (volume 1: 22 episodes, volumes 2 and 3: 22 and 21, or 21 and 22, for a total of 65 episodes).

Actually, I'd imagine BOTH volumes 2 and 3 will be 22 episodes each, since Sonic Christmas Blast is episode 66.

Attention all Sonic The Hedgehog fans,
Please spread the word to Sonic The Hedgehog fans to buy Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 1 on DVD to increase sales to get Volumes 2 and 3 of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog on DVD to complete Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Collection including me. How are the sales doing for Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 1 on DVD for Shout! I won't be able to buy this set until November, but I hope they do finish this show. Sonic Underground should be out by that time by Shout as well.

As much hate as this show gets (especially online) I don't see it selling worse than the SatAM set. Since this was the syndicated show it has been seen by a lot more people not to mention that it has also been rerun semi-recently.

Not to mention I bet most of the people that pick up these releases do so by seeing "sonic" in the cover and not knowing the differences.

Jonny: Just because someone hasn't answered your question in the space in forty minutes doesn't mean you need to post the same exact thing again.

I understand you're excited, but most of the stores selling this DVD haven't even been open 12 hours yet. Sales data does not come out that quickly, and a low-profile title like this usually doesn't show up on any of the sites that publicly post sales information.

Just completed watching the first 3 episodes on Disc 1. Ahhh the memories! I feel 8 years old again.:p

I think they could've done better on thier menus though. And the art on the back of the box is sorta lame.

Ahh yes. I got mine this afternoon. Scratch and Grounder FTW! :D

Y'know, it actually makes a good companion piece to SatAM. If one sees SatAM as the dramatic and darker version, then this of course would be the wacky and lighthearted version. :) And it probably says something about just how big Sonic was in '93 that he was able to star in TWO series simultaneously.

Anyway, here's hoping for Volumes 2 and 3.

"Up, over, and gone!"

2. Letters don't speak to a company as much as money does.

Johnny buddy, you dont have to mention the entire title each and every time you talk about the DVDs. Take a look above at how your post really should look. Shorter, eh? We know you want to know ASAP if the DVD is selling well enough to warrent more volumes. I'm sure lots of people do. But asking constantly - and so soon after release - really isnt going to get you anwhere.

Just some friendly advice. I think people here will be more inclined to answer your questions if you follow it. Right, guys?

Yay for production order! Adventures may not have been the best series but it's just as near and dear to my heart as a young Sonic fan back in the day. I just might pick this up if I get the cash to spare. (Plus Best Buy's running a summer entertainment promotion thing so I've gotta spend $100 by August 23. ^_^ )

Are sales picking up for Volume 1 of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog? I can't wait to get Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volumes 2 and 3 on DVD this year to complete the entire collection on DVD and want Sonic's Christmas Blast included on the third volume. I hope that now that Shout! Factory has released Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 1 that Shout! Factory will release Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 2 and that Shout! Factory will also release Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 3 so Shout! Factory will have released the entire collection of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog collecting all 65 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. If you're not familiar with Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is a television series documenting the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, although the syndicated Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is not to be confused with ABC's Sonic the Hedgehog, even though Sonic the Hedgehog and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog are both ultimately about the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

I read that if volume 1 of Shout! Factory's Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which has the first 22 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, sells well, Shout! Factory will release another volume of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which will have 21 or 22 more episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and I guess if Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 2 sells well, we'll see Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 3, and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 3 will finish off the rest of the episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. If all three volumes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog are released by Shout! Factory and all 65 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog are on those three volumes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, what a great day it will be for fans of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog!

I wonder how Shout! Factory will divide the episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog across these three volumes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. 65 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog can't divide evenly across three volumes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Volume one of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog has the first 22 episodes of Sonic the Hedgehog, and that leaves 43 episodes left of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog to spread across volume 2 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and volume 3 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I wonder if volume 2 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog will also have 22 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog or if it will only have 21 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. If Shout! Factory only puts 21 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on volume 2 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, that means there will be 22 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on volume 3 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. On the other hand, if Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 2 has 21 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, that means the third and final volume of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog will have 22 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which is really the way Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog should go out. Then again, if sales of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog volume 2 are not very strong, I want to make sure volume 2 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog has as many episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog as it can so that if Shout! Factory decides not to release any more volumes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, I'll have 44 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog instead of just 43 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Hopefully sales of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog will be strong enough that Shout! Factory will release all three volumes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog collecting all 65 episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog!

I just wish Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog had more episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog produced so Shout! Factory could release a fourth volume of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog collecting never-before seen episodes of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog!

Though I'm waiting for DD's next 20% off sale (in November) to pick this up, I'm definitely glad to hear all the positive news about this release. No problems with the video and production order are great and Sonic Sez or whatever it was called is a pleasant surprise.

Personally, I don't care at all if they include Sonic Christmas Blast on one of the next two releases. It's better that they do than they don't, but from what I remember, it wasn't very good. Even as a kid, I understood perfectly that AoStH and StH were two completely separate shows. I knew that what happened in one had no impact on the other show. SCB, for reasons completely unknown to me, just had to include a cameo by Princess Sally. My memory may be faulty having not seen it for a long time, but I remember that confusing me to no end.

Fighting fire with fire, huh?I don't know. That's an awful lot of typing for something he knows won't work. My money is on Adam having snapped. As we speak, he's probably standing next to the DVD section at his local department store begging random shoppers to buy AoStH DVDs. Security will eventually escort him from the area and his senses will return. Minor nitpick, but Adam forgot to thank us...

Ok, that post is a lot less confusing, and actually answerable:

Is Shout! Factory producing Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volumes 2 and 3 to be released on DVD this year?

Volume 2 should be out by November (just estimating here), and volume 3 should also be out by probably March of next year.

How were the sales for Volume 1 of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog?

It only came out five days ago, so we have yet to hear anything about the sales (though, knowing how well anything Sonic sells, it should be doing pretty well).
