Episode #14: Annihilation
Original Airdate: July 14th

The FANTASTIC FOUR fall into a trap and are taken to the NEGATIVE ZONE, where they’re attacked by ANNIHILUS and his warriors. But all is not as it seems - something in the Zone is affecting the Four’s powers. Things go from bad to worse when DOCTOR DOOM arrives, apparently in league with Annihilus! But Doom isn’t one to share power, and he takes Annihilus’ energy source back to Earth with him. But even if the Four can escape Annihilus, how can they defeat Doom, who now has the power to destroy the world?

Eh, I never cared much for Annihilus.

EDIT: Pineapple Thing!

I like how Doom just keeps ignoring Johnny. :P

Annihilus looks like something out of Metroid.

Season finale senses tingling. Yes, I know it's one 26-episode season, but... was it the same over in France? Because this seemed, well, like a big finale-style thing. And I liked it. (Especially Doom's quiet frustration with Johnny - I just keep liking him more and more.)

I didn't get Torch's logic, though. "Alien army coming after us... powers overloading..." And you run? Sounds like a silver-lining situation to me.

Didn't Doom already have a near-apocalyptic event a few episodes back?

This was a good episode(the best to date IMO)...and i dislike this cartoon...most of the episodes leading up to this one was high on dialog/comedy and slim on action...this epi finally meshed everything in a neat package..i actually laughed out loud a couple times..."i think thats crazy bird speak for shut your face"...the Arrogance of Doom was hilarious too.. speaking in the 3rd person when he was on his power trip.." NONE SHALL TOUCH DOOM!" epic battle with the universe in jeopardy + witty banter makes for good toon watchin'

only thing i was confused on was how come Doom wasn't absorbing the power like the F4 and Dooms intellect is supposed to rival Mr. Fantastic's but this scheme of his wasn't that well thought out i thought he was a rule the universe kinda villain not the destroy the universe kind..

more epis like this!

good point..i thought everyone with the exception of reed could have dusted the swarm..lol reed was just left with out a back bone

Generally I have liked all of the episodes with Dr. Doom in them so far and this one is no exception. This is probably my favorite anamated version of the character. Annihilus was more interesting then his normal "Destory everything" self too.

Who voiced Dinobot in Beast Wars? I wanna say Steve Blum?

It was very cool to hear him evoke Dinobot's voice again (more or less), as it works very well on Annihilus. I thought Annihilus' design was a little over-detailed for a character that appears in harsh lighting most of the time, but it cool and was close enough to his original design. Aspects of his design really reminded me of Cell from DBZ!

Sorry, that would be the immortal Scott McNeil. And he rocked as Annihilus.

This episode was middle-of-the-road. Annihilus is pretty awesome (for some reason, his screech cracked me up), and the camaraderie between the FF remains indomitable, but the rest was just eh, save for H.E.R.B.I.E.'s fantastic "Dr. Richards! I missed you!"

The episode started off really slow, with Johnny's humor being the only highlight, but things picked up big time in the middle. I was expecting the enitre episode be just the FF trying to escape with only a few minutes left to clobber someone. That battle at the end in the city felt pretty epic (well, for this show at least), and for a second, I actually thought it would end on a cliffhanger. Good episode.

I don't think I need to remind you guys that Marvel did a recent cosmic crossover by the same name, and that a certain someone did a talkback in the Comics forum.

Ahem...;)

Anyway, I wasn't to excited about this episode. Wasn't great, true to the spirit of the Fantastic Four but still kind of boring. The Cosmic control rod was also kind of weird.

Oddly enough, Blum is voicing Wolverine in the upcoming cartoon. Have to admit, I had no idea it was Scott McNeil when I first watched it!

I thought the design worked really well. Looking at some of the screengrabs, it does come across as a little too detailed but I actually thought Moonscoop pulled it off very well.

I especially liked the POV shots, which shows all of Doom's scaring and such. Not a bad episode in my opinion, but not one of the show's best.

I liked this episode. I was thinking that the Negative Zone is like Superman's Phantom Zone because they are both dimensions.

This episode was great. Annihilus was cool villain. Even cooler that he was voiced McNeil. So look like Doom is now trap in Negative Zone. Wonder how he goona get out this one? Anyway good episode.

A question like that is too subjective. The answer will vary depending on whom you ask.

This isn’t the first time they have been in the negative zone is it.

Decent episode, but the fillerish attitude make all the episodes seem similar.

3/5

This episode makes me sad that its gonna be gone in a week or so.
You will still be able to see the F4 on Sat. mornings.

Y'know I really do appreciate this show more as a comedy than an action toon. The entire time I kept thinking Doom and Annihilus were bringing down the levity of the show. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

Normally, I prefer superhero toons to be heavy on the action with a decent helping of drama. However, I don't think this formula works for the Fantastic Four. I wonder if too much humor in past eps will make it difficult for the audience to accept more serious storylines.

On the whole I really enjoyed this episode. Visually I thought this was one of Moonscoop's best efforts. The art direction was wonderful, from backgrounds to everything else.

I was really impressed with how weird they went with the FF's 'suped up' designs. Reed in particular looked so warped and almost creepy at times, which was great and should really be applauded, because the animators and designers went so far out there and ended up with something very special. You hardly ever see action adventure cartoons go that weird and strange, bravo!

The story was pretty straight forward but it worked really well. It's been great seeing how Yost and crew have taken care in doing these 'FF's super powers gone awry' stories. They could easily be gimmicky and goofy but so far, especially this episode, that's all been handled very well. This version of Doom has grown on me and his VA is doing a great job.

This episode has some of the series best animation yet, really quality stuff. I was a little worried at the beginning of the series, but at this stage of the game they seem to really have it together!

I'm actually going to miss this show when it's gone since it has been growing on me quite a bit as this second cycle of episodes started playing. It's a good mix of comedy ("We're calling him the Annilhilator" and Johnny and Ben's little fight at the end got a good chuckle out of me) and action (mainly the superpowered FF four being captured by the Anillhator's forces and then battling powered up Doom at the end) was pretty good. The plot was also quite well thought out: Doom frames the Fantastic four by telling Annhilus they're an evil threat while his forces steal the power stone and supposedley strands the FF and Annihulus in the negative zone while he wrecks havoc and shows everyone true power in the real world. Also interesting he's probably stuck in the Negative Zone now (no way Annilhus killed him. Main villian/kids show rules and all). Also interesting seeing the FF super powered to the point of being powerless in a sense. Nothing super sensational or super hilarious in this one but it was a good basic FF ep that makes me sad we won't be seeing more of this show on Toonami. At least for who knows how long anyway.

Scott McNeil as Annihilus was/is indeed an inspired choice. Though having Blum do it would have been good as well.

I just wish some how, some way, Annihilation Wave would get this kind of a treatment.

The episode was enjoyable, but something felt off to me. I liked the design of the Negative Zone, the FF with amped powers (particularly Ben, who went through a change like that once in the comics), and Annihulus, but...maybe it was too dark or something? The battle with Doom was pretty cool.

Season finale senses tingling. Yes, I know it's one 26-episode season, but... was it the same over in France? Because this seemed, well, like a big finale-style thing. And I liked it. (Especially Doom's quiet frustration with Johnny - I just keep liking him more and more.)

Wait, season finale already? But...are they ever going to get back to that Kree/Skrull War stuff? It seems like I've been waiting forever to see Super Skrull (which, I assume was where they were going last time we saw that plot).

Well, yeah, but maybe it's Teen Titans messing with me, but I've come to expect set ups at the beginning of a season to be paid off by the end of the season. It's okay if it's not, it just feels a little awkward.

I thought this episode was a good follow-up to the story in Bait & Switch but not nearly as good as that episode was.

The good:

Doctor Doom! We got to see him in all his bad-*** glory here. Even better, we got to see (or rather, not see) mask-less Doom in the end, broken and defeated. You just know this is not over!
More "in-story" comedy. Rather than forcing "funny" one-shot characters into the story like other episodes have done, here all the laughs come from the main characters and their predicaments.
The story. For the most part, this was a good follow-up to last week. The neutral:

The Negative Zone. I liked the design but I was getting a little tired of seeing so much red.The bad:

The fights. I guess we're back to the lame fights again. I mean, c'mon, you've got Cosmic Doctor Doom versus Super Thing so how come it's about as exciting as a shoving match by two kids at the local 7-11? This battle should have KILLED; I was bored instead. Any time there was contact I was like, "Huh?", because they tended to avoid showing what happened. Even if they did, not much was actually happening.
Annihilus. Okay, I've never thought of him as a genius before but he was way too easily duped. Plus, he didn't fight very well (see above).Anyways, I'm giving this one three-and-a-half stars.
