There have been some questions I've been wondering about for a while, so here it is:

What does the "S" on Superman's chest stand for? In the animated show, it's on his ship too, so what does it stand for in both the animated and comic worlds?

Does Nightwing have those "wings" in the comics like he has in the animated continuity? If he has it, does he use the grappling hook also?

In the animated continuity, Grayson gets his flying ability from a group in the mountains (see the "Lost Years" comic). If the ability is a secret, then how come the guy just gives Nightwing a suit, and Grayson knows how o use it w/o instructions?

Is the new costume that Cassandra is wearing, the same as Barbara's costume? What does the mask suppose to look like? Does it really cover the eye and mouth holes? If they are covered, how can Cassandra see through the mask?

Any help answering these questions would be helpful...

Superman. No, it's generally accepted that it's some kind of Kryptonian clan symbol that Martha Kent found in the ship, that very conveniently resembles an "S", a la Superman: The Movie.

Does Nightwing have those "wings" in the comics like he has in the animated continuity? If he has it, does he use the grappling hook also?

He doesn't have the glider. And he doesn't tend to use a grapple. Nightwing is very acrobatic, and usually just uses a batarang on a batrope.

In the animated continuity, Grayson gets his flying ability from a group in the mountains (see the "Lost Years" comic). If the ability is a secret, then how come the guy just gives Nightwing a suit, and Grayson knows how o use it w/o instructions?

They taught him.

Ok. Barbara's costume was originally much like the one in TNBA, except gray, with blue mask, yellow gloves and boots.

Cassandra's costume was originally from when THE HUNTRESS became Batgirl. The mask was open-faced, like Batman's, but someone sprayed Huntress with spray-paint, so she sewed a patch over the mouth and eyes so Batman wouldn't make the connection, since she was operating as The Huntress in the daytime. The eyeholes are some kind of two-way lens or fabric.

Thanks Guard for answering, but I have a question. When you said the mountain guys taught Grayson how to glide, then why didn't the comic show it? Right after they meet, the guy just gives him the suit and tells him to go and get their sacred statue. After that, the next panel show Grayson dressed up and gliding like he was born to do it w/o problems.

In the Animated Series and the movies, the "S" was apparently a Kryptonian symbol (in the movies, a symbol for the "House of El" IIRC).

In the comics (both pre- and post-Crisis), Ma or Pa Kent just made a nifty-looking "S"-for-Superman (or pre-Crisis, Superboy) logo when Superman's costume was made...

Well, if you listen to John Byrne explain it, it's really two funny-looking fish swimming past each other. :)

Back in the late issues of "The New Titans", Starfire designed a suit for Nightwing that had glider wings similar to the ones on the cartoon. But those were left behind when Dick ditched the blue-and-yellow "super hero" look for the black-and-blue "ninja" look.

I don't get the spray-paint thing that you just said. I mean so what if she got sprayed, if the mask if just just like Batman's, Bats wouldn't notice, right? And when the mouth is covered, how is she suppose to breath? Can someone explain these answers to me, because I have no idea about this Batgirl costume thing. Can I find the answers in the NML Comic and novel?

Maybe Bats just never got sprayed in the face yet. I think anyone would notice if they got their mouth sprayed with spray paint - its pretty nasty tasting.

Why wouldn't she be able to breath? Ever worn a scarf around your face? You can breath. This cloth isn't air-tight or anything - think of it like a ninja mask.

What I meant Clayface, was why would she cover the mouth hole just because she got spray painted? Guard said something about 'so Batman wouldn't make a connection', but what I'm saying is, what connection? Bats can't recognize that this Batgirl was a fake and it was really Huntress. So, why cover the whole mask? I may be missing something here, so someone please explain if I'm wrong.

Ok, what you're looking for there is all in No Man's Land. If you want spoilers, here ya go:

In No Man's Land, Batman disappears for a while. But the city needs a Bat desperately. So, Huntress decides to take up the mantle of the bat, and makes her own Batman/Batgirl costume. She covers her entire face so that no one can recognize her - several of the Bat-team know who the Huntress is. Later in the series, after a number of events, Batman tells Huntress that she can't wear the Bat costume - that she's not good enough and won't play by his rules. But, he chooses a new Batgirl - Cassandra, the one that currently wear the costume.

That really clears a lot of things about this, so thank you Clayface! :D

Also, if you say that the reason she covered the mask was so no one could recognize her, then what was the Guard talking about her being spray painted, and that's the reason she covered it? Can you shed some light on this? By the way, thanks guys for answering my questions, and I might have some more, so please stick around! :p

To be honest, I don't remember. I'm saying all this off the top of my head, from memories of when I first read it. But I do remember something about spray paint in the face.

Read NML #0. Huntress did NOT originally cover her face as Batgirl. She operated with the open mask like Batman did. But when a gang member sprayed her, she, having heard that he was back. was afraid that he would see her as The Huntress with a stained red face, and then see a new Batgirl with a stained red face, and realize she was the new Batgirl. So she sewed the patches on. Moot point, however, as Batman recognized her movements, and immediately figured out it was The Huntress.

When you mean red face, do u mean spray-painted red face?

Also, in the comics, is it official that that 's' is a symbol of Kryptonian clan, or is it something else. I heard someone say that it was just weird fish passing each other, lol.

Thanks for clearing that up, Guard! I couldn't remember exactly what had happened.

Yes he does.

The fish thing was a joke. It's a symbol of the house of El. And...very conveniently, it happens to look like an "S".

Some more questions:

1. How does Supes see things while he goes into superspeed? Does everything go to him in slow-motion, or is he really fast and everything is just buzzing past him?

2. How did Supes get so muscular? If he can lift cars easily, wouldn't that mean he would have to practice lifting something REALLY heavy, for him to gain muscles? Or else, wouldn't Supes be just a skinny adult superhero that's really strong?

3. I've heard a lot about Bats punching Guy Gardener in the gut for acting stupid, and I would really like to see it. Can anyone tell me the comic that this is in, or better yet, can you show me a pic that might be online?

4. I've been looking all over for this pic. Can anyone find me the cover to the Batman: No Man's Land #0 comic? It's the one with Huntress dressed as Batgirl.

Thanks in advance for anyone that answers.

Superman's speed does not come from the Speed Force. But when YOU speed up, other things go slower. I imagine time slows down for him.

Comic book characters have muscles. WEIGHT does not build muscle. REPETITION does.

Gardner was being an ass. And Batman punched him. Later on, Gardner dared the JLA to try to kick him out of the Watchtower when he became Warrior. Batman stepped up, and Gardner backed down.

Thanks for the answers Guard, but do you know what issue that was when Gardener was acting stupid? I really want to see this comic since I've heard a lot of people talking about it.
