View Full Version : Many Hands Make Light Work

About Superman's being a "wimp", I had a thought the other day...
Well, when Superman was working alone in S:TAS, he had to work his butt off. But, now he's a member of the JL, and with 4 members who have superstrength and superendurance like him, he doesn't have to work as hard now! You know the old saying, "Many hands make light work"? I think it applies here.
For example, in the opening to "Paradise Lost", Wonder Woman helped Superman get that fire truck lowered down. Did he need her help? No. Did she need his help? No. But, working together, they only had to work half as hard. Wonder Woman didn't put her Lasso around the fire truck because Superman was weak; she just did it to save him the trouble.
I also had a thought about Superman overreacting to Wonder Woman almost getting 'hit' by the lamp post. (Maybe he was protecting the lamp post from her head, hehe.) But seriously, I think that, even if you have superstrength and superendurance, if you're taken by surprise, you can still be knocked out with one blow. I think the JL members, like the superheroes on Dragonball Z, have to "power up", or get focused on being superstrong and superendurant. When their guard is down, they're more vulnerable... Not as vulnerable as you or I, of course, but I think that, with her guard completely down, that lamp post would have knocked her out for a couple of hours, gave her a mild concussion or something.
But still, Superman did overreact a bit. :)
What does everyone else think?

I dont think Superman was overreacting to the lamp post almost hitting on WW. I think when you're surprised you naturally tend to react like that. For example, say you see a book about to fall on your friend. You know it's not going to hurt him much, maybe give him a little headache or so, but you'll react very quickly to try to warn him to get out of the way.

I was thinking:
Wouldn't it br neat if there was a skinny little kid with super strength?
And then it occured to me:
Superman should be a big fat slob. If picking up busses is easy for him, there's no way he can get adiquate exercise on Earth. Why is he so ripped? He should be a tub.

Well, super strength, super speed... super metabolism?
And with his super speed he could do like 1000 situps in about a minute, and that will keep your stomach flat.

This is what totally makes me mad. Spiderman is (or was, rather) a skinny little weakling that got superstrength. He was still puny after the fact. But thanks to the upcoming movie, supposedly his muscles "swell" from the bite, making him another buff, sinew enriched musclehead. That makes me mad. His appeal was partially that he looked like a wimp, but he was a powerhouse. OK, I'm done ranting. :) :) :) :D ;)

SENSE? Have you ever seen a fifteen year old bitten by a radioactive spider? If you haven't, you have no grounds for SENSE, as you call it. Besides, it's a comic book. Things never make sense.

Batman rules! Er... what was the subject again?
Oh yeah, Superman doesn't have to work as hard because he's got all the JL members working with him! Besides, if you think about it, Superman and Green Lantern don't need any help at all.
But... I remember once, on an episode of the horrible, horrible "Superfriends" TV show, two elephants in India were stuck in a big hole in the ground (?). And guess what? Superman and Green Lantern were on the job. Never mind the fact that either one of these two could have done this alone during their coffee break, but they BOTH went! AND, it took a whole freakin' 20 minutes of screen time for them to save those two elephants. What the... ?!?
Ah yes, "Superfriends." The ghetto cartoon of the DC Universe. Thank God for "Justice League"!
Um, I think I strayed from the subject myself... :) Any other thoughts on "Many hands make light work"? :)

My GROUNDS for sense lie in something new they invented called logic. His muscles swelling are a good explanation for his newfound physical abilities. If he was still in horrible shape, his body couldn't take the stress of acrobatics.

You guys have never seen a fifteen year old that was bitten by a radioactive spider? Wow, you've got to get out more. Check out your local grade school or park, all the kids these days are getting spider-powers it's the new cool thing to do (replacing Pokemon).

Well, the bite would kill him anyway, so there's no point to going back and forth. :)
