This thread over on GAC has dissected the trailer for the fifth Looney Tunes Golden Collection (available on an advance copy of the "Popeye the Sailor Volume 1: 1933-1938" DVD), and judging by the clips, here's some of the cartoons that are thus confirmed to be on the set...
"Milk and Money" (LT, Avery, 1936)
"Little Red Walking Hood" (MM, Avery, 1937)
"The Daffy Doc" (LT, Clampett, 1938)
"Patient Porky" (LT, Clampett, 1940)
"Prehistoric Porky" (LT, Clampett, 1940)
"Porky's Preview" (LT, Avery, 1941)
"The Wacky Wabbit" (MM, Clampett, 1942)
"Scrap Happy Daffy" (LT, Tashlin, 1943)
"The Old Grey Hare" (MM, Clampett, 1944)
"Hollywood Daffy" (MM, Freleng, 1946)
"Bacall to Arms" (MM, Clampett, 1946)
"A Pest In the House" (MM, Jones, 1947)
"Buccaneer Bunny" (LT, Freleng, 1948)
"Paying the Piper" (LT, McKimson, 1949)
"Little Red Rodent Hood" (MM, Freleng, 1952)
"The Turn-Tale Wolf" (MM, McKimson, 1952)
"The Super Snooper" (LT, McKimson, 1952)
"Red Riding Hoodwinked" (LT, Freleng, 1955)
"Bugs Bonnets" (MM, Jones, 1956)
"A Star is Bored" (LT, Freleng, 1956)
"Goldimouse and the Three Cats" (LT, Freleng, 1960)
"The Abominable Snow Rabbit" (LT, Jones, 1961)
"Senorella and the Glass Huarache" (LT, Hawley Pratt, 1964)
Judging by what we've been given, it's believed that there's going to be a disc dedicated to Daffy Duck, and another dedicated to fairy tale-themed cartoons. It's also possible that Bob Clampett will be getting his own disc.
Thoughts?

Only that I can't wait, as usual. Glad to see "The Abominable Snow Rabbit" finally getting included; amazed it took this long. Also will enjoy watching "The Old Grey Hare", "Buccaneer Bunny", and "Patient Porky" again after so many years. Since it's often difficult to pair a short with its name, due to how many of the titles are simply puns on catch phrases instead of actually saying what the short is about, I don't know many of the rest that are identified but I'm sure I'll remember them once I watch.
I look forward to the full list.

A dedicated-Bugs disc and dedicated-Daffy disc pretty much seals the deal for me. Everything else is gravy. :D

lol..ok....this is sad but we have finally reached a point where I don't recognize a good portion of the list. Granted it's still early and there is still a lot more that will be in the set...but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for at least one Sniffles cartoon...or a Ralph Phillips cartoon. Only other one I'm anxious for is Miss Glory as the only time I have ever seen it was back in the day when Nickelodeon used to show the old Black and While cartoons. I'm also wondering how much longer we can have as one of the previous posters put it "A dedicated-Bugs disc and dedicated-Daffy disc". They have to be pretty close to running out of Bugs and Daffy cartoons by now....question is which will run out first? I guess I'm to the point where I'm looking forward to the day when they run out of Bugs and Daffy and have to really start focusing on some of the other characters. I mean 5 sets and how many Foghorn Leghorn cartoons have we had? I'm glad they got the Road Runner stuff out of the way however as that disk actually put me to sleep. =(

Judging by the thumbnail, the cover art doesn't seem quite as bad as it appeared to be in the trailer. It looks like they cleaned it up a bit, at least - Bugs, Daffy, and Porky all seem to be much more on-model now.

Ah, I was going off wikipedia, might have missed some, or there could have been inaccurate entries.
Nonetheless, there's still a significant amount of Bugs toons left.

The Chuck Jones documentary is from PBS's Great Performances series. It was done when Chuck was alive so the filmmakers follow him around - especially to a signing of cell art. It's already out on DVD.

It could be. The only Clampett-directed Tweety cartoon to appear on a Golden Collection so far has been 1945's "A Gruesome Twosome" on Volume 3.

This would be the perfect opportunity for it, and it's really overdue for a DVD release. I'm also hoping that we get "Beanstalk Bunny", which I still think is unjustly underrated - Abe Levitow's animation on the "under glass" sequence is sheer brilliance.

I'm going to be a very old man before they finally remember Pepe and Foghorn. :anime: Personally I'd rather have more Foghorn shorts before Pepe. I was never a big Pepe fan myself. I'm seriously surprised "A Fractured Leghorn" isn't on a Golden Collection yet- that's one of my favorite Foghorn shorts and has one of the funniest endings. Hopefully it'll be on volume 5 (fingers crossed).

Will Looney Tunes Golden Collection 5 include the 1960's Warner Bros. cartoon shorts from the last years of the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons since they featured Cool Cat, Merlin the Magic Mouse, Bunny and Claude, Rapid Rabbit, and even Daffy Duck/Speedy Gonzales?

Not all of them, but one or two may show up. We already got a few from that era on Volume 4, so the precedent is there. The official contents for Volume 5 haven't been released yet, so it's all just speculation at this point.

Senorella is a historic cartoon being that it was the last cartoon made in the old studios before the switchover. This looks like a great set so far.

The only problem I have with this set is that most of Clampett's all-time greatest cartoons have been released(Gruesome Twosome,Great Piggy Bank Robbery,Kitty Kornered,etc.) so is'nt a Clampett a little late?:confused:

He still has a lot of underrated gems left that aren't on DVD - stuff like "A Tale of Two Kitties", "Horton Hatches the Egg", "The Wise Quacking Duck", "What's Cookin', Doc?", "Russian Rhapsody", "Hare Ribbin'", "The Old Grey Hare", "Wagon Heels", "The Bashful Buzzard", "Bacall to Arms"...and that's just his 1940s stuff (he also did a significant chunk of memorable black-and-white Looney Tunes in the 1930s).
Unfortunately, according to Jerry Beck, we won't be seeing Clampett's piece de resistance "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs" on this set, or any Censored 11 cartoons at all. Damn...

Yeah I'd love for a restored version of "What's Cookin', Doc?" to be included on volume 5. We got it on volume 4 as part of "Bugs Bunny Superstar", but it was the same so-so quality of the documentary. Kinda disappointing.
And yeah, he did some great B&W shorts, especially with Porky. "Porky's Party" was one of my favorites on volume 3.

I think the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Fresh Hare" (one of the few to feature an obese Elmer Fudd) has been on a number of public domain/dollar store cartoon complimation DVD's.
Also: Will the "Bacall to Arms" cartoon have the end part where the Humphrey Bogart character takes the cigar from the animal seeing the Bogart/Bacall movie and it explodes turning into a Rochester character ("My, my, my, I can work for Mr. Benny now!")? I remember seeing that end part when TNT and WTBS/TBS aired pre-1948 Looney Tunes shorts but it was later cut out of Cartoon Network/Boomerang airings.

Unless the print with that gag in it is lost, it will probably stay in the cartoon on Volume 5, since all the cartoons are supposed to be uncut.

It was released uncut as an extra on the To Have and Have Not DVD. I've never seen that cartoon and I'm definitely looking forward to it.
Also, about "The Fresh Hare", its indeed been released uncut as a public domain cartoon, as I own it on a real crappy quality VHS tape from the 80s along with a colorized "All This and Rabbit Stew" and "The Wacky Wabbit"

I have to say I agree with the folks at Warners on why things are being spread out over several upcoming sets: the facts are simply that there are so many shorts to choose from, and if they had put ALL the really good ones into Volume One, anything that came after that would be boring by comparison...there's such a wealth of material to choose from and we just need to be patient. I know there are many I'm looking forward to, and they'll get to them!

Sounds good so far. We finally get one of those later "Format Films" cartoons. Well, I guess "Glass Hurache" was actually from the original studios but it had the new credits, so we're getting close. Also, it would be great to see "Patient Porky" uncut. They aired it a lot on CN, but they made all those edits. I've been wanting to see the original version. I'd write more, but I have to get to work.

Yes! Finally we get Ali Baba Bunny! I knew we had it coming. Nice Fairy Tale selections, though I hope we see some Three Bears cartoons on the next collection. Overall, awesome set.

You know what's missing from the Fairy Tales disc?
Of course you do, but no one expected it anyway....

Toon Zone has reported the news, adding a little extra info that TVShowsOnDVD left out, such as years and directors for the shorts: http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=18425 . So judging by that list, it looks like we have the following totals for directors:
* Bob Clampett: 21 shorts
* Friz Freleng: 11 shorts
* Chuck Jones: 8 shorts (holy cow, is that his lowest amount ever on a GC?!)
* Robert McKimson: 6 shorts
* Tex Avery: 6 shorts
* Frank Tashlin: 4 shorts
* Maurice Noble: 2 shorts co-directed with Chuck Jones
* Hawley Pratt: 1 short
* Arthur Davis: 1 short
* Jack King: 1 short
* Tom Palmer: 1 short (never even heard of him...)
So yeah, this is the definitive Clampett collection right here. Can't wait.

Well, maybe not definitive - it could still benefit from an infusion of "Coal Black" - but it's still a great collection of some of his best stuff.

I GREATLY APOLOGIZE FOR THIS NECROMANCY.
Get your checkbooks ready, the 5th volume of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection is only a month from release!
Nice to see Bugs' monopoly over Disc 1 is over. Three Red Riding Hood parodies on one disc is kinda extreme. I can basically deduce every cartoon in this set is pre-1950, since there's not one Road Runner cartoon on it.
Warner Bros. Pictures or Seven Arts, I will treasure this set until my dying day (or humanity's, whichever comes first).
I enjoy all the cartoons on the previous collections, and getting this in a Trick-or-Treat bag (Read: Immediately) would be a dream come true instead of Christmas Eve.

I can basically deduce every cartoon in this set is pre-1950, since there's not one Road Runner cartoon on it. Actually there are quite a few post-1950 cartoons on volume 5, although they're all on the first two discs:
-14 Carrot Bunny
-Ali Baba Bunny
-Bugs' Bonnets
-A Star is Bored
-Transylvania 6-5000
-Oily Hare
-Stupor Duck
-The Abominable Snow Rabbit
-The Super Snooper
-Bewitched Bunny
-Goldimouse and the Three Cats
-Little Red Rodent Hood
-Red Riding Hoodwinked
-The Turn-Tale Wolf
-Tweety and the Beanstalk
-Señorella and the Glass Huarache
Though yes, I don't believe there are any Road Runner cartoons on here.
I'm bringing this thread back up to inform that Jerry Beck has updated Cartoon Brew with a few pictures of this set, including four original title cards!

I see some of the Bugs Bunny TV specials are on the set. I was wondering if Warner will have these seperately. I wouldn't mind seeing Bug Bunny's Thanksgiving Diet.

Who else bought vol. 5 today, or is going to soon? My favorite from disc 1 has to be "The Stupor Salesman", and it's really a shame that Art Davis didn't get to direct more cartoons at WB before his unit disbanded. The rubbery animation and great timing he had was just fantastic, and he was a worthy successor to Clampett.
Other faves on disc 1:
-Buccaneer Bunny (Freleng does a bang-up job on this Yosemite Sam/Bugs short, with lots of memorable moments)
-Bugs' Bonnets (innovative premise, and a chance to get BOTH Bugs and Elmer to act different than usual)
-A Pest in the House (classic premise, and the various situations to wake up the hotel resident are funny)
-Stupor Duck (animation-wise it's not that great but Daffy is superb as a crappy paranoid superhero)
-The Abominable Snow Rabbit (Daffy has some great line reads in this one)
-You Were Never Duckier (interesting to see Henery in a non-Leghorn cartoon, and Jones is in fine late '40s form here)

I bought it today too. Just started watching it, too.
Looks great! No complaints! Keep 'em comin', Warner Brothers!
