I just read the TDKR tpb, and i have a few questions:
Batman uses weapons in this. I know sometimes what looks like a gun is a grappling hook, but other times it wasn't? What is up with that? That confirms this is out of continuity, right, because someone told me TDKR and DK2 were in continuity, but that didnt seem right.
Also, they mention the death of Jason Todd in this. TDKR originally came out in 1986. The ultimate guide to the dark knight says Jason Todd's death was in 1989. Help?
I think there is something else that bothers me, but i cant remember.
Also, i have read the first part of dk2, i need to read it again, but where do the catgirl person and the mini professor dude come from? and is the president the same as in the last one? no spoilers for the 2nd issue of dk2 please. thanks

Other than the little batarang-throwing-knives and the rifle/grappling hook, what other weapons are you referring to? I don't remember any other weapons that would be seriously out of keeping for Batman.

Jason Todd's actual death in the comics did occur after TDKR came out. I think Frank Miller just selected an event that would have driven Batman to retirement, which happened to appear in the comics 3 years later. As far as I know, the Miller Jason Todd isn't the same as the "standard continuity" Jason Todd.
Besides, they never actually TELL you what happened to Jason Todd in TDKR, now, do they...

Catgirl is Robin/Carrie Kelly in a new costume. The "mini-professor-dude" (Kids these days...no respect for history =8^) is Ray Palmer, aka the Atom. Visit http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/1383/atom.htm for tons more detail on the good Dr. Palmer than I could ever give.
Don't know about the President (I couldn't actually endure all of TDKR2 in the comic store), but since the Prez in TDKR was a thinly veiled Ronald Reagan, I'd guess that it's not the same guy.

IE, the gun he uses to shoot down the sewer he's in fighting the joker so the cops cant get it him, and right after that, the helicopter-type batplane uses a gun. also, that big batmobile type thing in the fight with the mutants, seemed to me to have weapons, although that may be wrong.

well, they bruce says, "I will never forget Jason. He was a good soldier. He honored me." Page 93, of the tpb, if u have it, book 2. Notice the past tense. Seems to me that Jason is dead. Although, it never does say Jason Todd, just Jason, so you never know.

I should have known about catgirl, lol, thanks.
Don't know about the President President Rickard, in DK2, dont know about the first one. I wonder how Batman's return is explained, especially since everyone knows who Batman is. I shall read on! Lol. Big Big BIG thanks Ace

In TDKR, which predates "A Death In The Family", the Joker killed Jason Todd. In fact, Miller's orginal plan was to have the Joker rape Jason Todd before killing him. However, it was 1986 and DC probably got nervous about that scenea and it never made it in. I forget where I read this. I'll dig it up if I can. I also used to work for an independent comics publisher who knew Miller and basically hinted at the same thing.
I wonder if Mr. Grayson will be showing up in DK2?

Batman used batarangs, a grappling gun, a sonic-gun, property damage missles, and rubber bullets in the Batmobile.
