The first 5 episodes of the 11th. season of Arthur (based on Marc Brown's Arthur books) are airing this week on most PBS Kids stations with the remaining 5 of Season 11 to be aired September 3-7, 2007.

Has Arthur really been on that long? I think that 11 seasons is too long a run for any show.
11 seasons, wow. I remember watching the show back when I was younger. I can understand shows like Barney and Sesame Street lasting for 20-30 years, but what is it about Arthur that keeps it coming back year after year?

Huh, Arthur is still running? I used to watch that show sometimes. I didn't know people actually watch it anymore.

The reason this show is still on the air is because of it's writing. It's not like Sesame Street or Barney that feel obligated to force basic learning on children. I remember when I watched this when I was young that many of the stories I could relate to that self-taught moral responsibility.
Also, there are a lot of in-jokes in Arthur making references to The Sopranos, Beavis & Butthead, Ultraman, and even Richard Scary. So, if anything, I find the show much more enjoyable as an adult.

11th season? Wow, just wow. Honestly, I haven't glanced at Arthur since my kid brother outgrew it, and that was years ago.

Man, I remember back in the day. It's like King of the Hill...you know it's there, but you don't really watch, you just channel surf and it happens to be on. It's a clever show most definitely. I think a lot of people thought it was cancelled eons ago.

To me it was canceled the day they aired that punching episode.

11 seasons? It was cool when I was little but I haven't watched it in years.

I know my local Chicago area station aired on Monday and Tuesday the first 2 Season 11 Arthur episodes (Monday - "Swept Away/Germophobia" and Tuesday - "Arthur Sells Out/Mind Your Manners"), but for today - Wednesday, instead of "Buenas Noches, Vicita/Prunella Packs It In" the Season 10 Arthur episode "Desert Island Dish/The Secret About Secrets" aired instead. I hope I can find someone who has taped/recorded the Arthur episode "Buenas Noches, Vicita/Prunella Packs It In" on the web!

That new episode "Buenas Noches, Vicita/Prunella Packs It In" actually aired here today, I don't think you wanna see it, it was really bad.
Why was it bad?

You hit the nail. That's exactly the reason why I watched Arthur for the longest time.

It was extremely boring and dull. Arthur appeared only brifely in the first story and didn't appear at all in the second. And Buster and Francine, the other 2 main characters besides Arthur didn't appear in either. It was pretty much just Vicita in the first one, and Prunella and Muffy in the second one. It felt like a completely different show from the old episodes.
There have been other Arthur episodes with no Arthur appearance at all:
* "Prunella Sees the Light" (Season 7)
* "Fern Fern and the Secret of Moose Mountain"/"Thanks a Lot Binky" (Season 8)
* "Big Horns George" (Season 8)
* "My Fair Tommy" (with D.W. in it but not Arthur) (Season 9)
* "World Girls" (Season 10)
Also: Rumor has it my Chicago PBS Kids station may not air today's episode "Phony Fern/Brain's Shocking Secret" and air instead the Season 10 episode "Feeling Flush/Family Fortune". The 5th. Season 11 episode which is the last until the next 5 air in September is to be air Friday - "Baby Kate and the Imaginary Mystery/Strangers on a Train" - but will air Saturday morning on the Chicago PBS Kids station since the Friday afternoon block has "The Saddle Club" (it recently replaced the Friday only airings of Postcards from Buster on the Chicago PBS Kids station), followed by a 2 hour "Friday Palooza" mini marathon of a different PBS Kids show, and then a 1 hour "Kids Picks" results block.

Woe Arthur has been on since I was in sixth grade, and I just graduated college! Anyway I use to enjoy the show because it wasn't a cute cartoon like other little kids and it also wasn't too preachy. I think it started going downhill when they started to focus on D.W. and her preschool friends. It feels more like a preschool show now when it use to appeal to everyone.

I dunno, the episode where she learns a bleeped word was pretty hilarious. Then all her friends at school start using it frequently.

That was a good episode, it's just the other preschool stories are weak.

I was right, the Chicago PBS Kids station for the 5 PM airing of "Arthur" showed the Season 10 "Feeling Flush/Family Fortune" episode instead of the Season 11 Arthur episode "Phony Fern/Brain's Shocking Secret". I hope someone has screenshots from the "Phony Fern" episode showing Fern dressed like the Agatha Christie character Hercule Peroit and the screenshots from that same "Phony Fern" episode showing what Fern's father (though I have seen Fern's mother in a few episodes) looks like. Hope you can post screenshots on Toonzone!

There hasn't been an Arthur DVD released to the public since last year's CGI "Arthur's Missing Pal" direct to DVD movie.

Update: Tomorrow morning (July 5, 2007) the Chicago PBS Kids station will air "Phony Fern/Brain's Shocking Secret" and on Friday afternoon (July 6, 2007) a 2 hour marathon of the second, third, fourth, and fifth Season 11 Arthur episodes will air on that same PBS Kids station.
I used to watch this back in middle school, but eventually stopped after my family got cable and I started watching toonami and whatnot. I can't believe it's still going, though. Do all the characters still have the same voice actors?

Most of the Arthur cartoon voice cast has been with the show since Season 1 in 1996. Only there have been voice changes for voice actors/voice actresses for Arthur, D.W., Sue Ellen, Brain, George, Tommy Tibble, Timmy Tibble, Vicita Molena, Rattles, Pal, Emily, and James MacDonald during the 11 seasons.
I finally got to see "Buenas Noches, Vicita/Prunella Packs It In" and "Phony Fern/Brain's Shocking Secret" recently (and I saw "Baby Kate - Imaginary Mystery/Strangers on a Train"), especially with Vicita spoofing Dora the Explorer with an African folk tale, Fern and George spoofing an Agatha Christie mystery, Fern's new cell phone, the first appearance of Fern's father, Nadine now becoming Baby Kate's imaginary friend instead of D.W.'s, Brain being called "Stomach", and even Prunella now has her last name revealed - Prunella Deegan!
I sure can't wait for the other Season 11 Arthur episodes to air September 3-7, 2007 with an episode where Binky adopts an orphan girl from China and an episode spoofing "Postcards from Buster" with guest voice Matt Damon.
Also: For season 11, the "Word From Us Kids" mid show segment is now replaced by a "Postcards from You" mid show segment.

Add 2 more Arthur episodes with no Arthur appearance to the list for Season 11 besides "Mind Your Manners":
* "Prunella Packs It In"
* "Strangers on a Train"

The remaining 5 Season 11 Arthur episodes aired on PBS Kids this past Labor Day week, including an episode with guest voice Matt Damon, a takeoff of "Dancing with the Stars" where Francine and George take part in a dance class and enter a dance competition, a Halloween episode where D.W. gets hiccups, a Thanksgiving episode where Francine copies something off the internet for a report, the much hyped "D.W. on Ice" episode, and an episode where Binky's family adopts a baby girl while on vacation in China.
And George (the moose boy) has a new last name: Lundgren instead of Nordgren.

11 Seasons is darned good for any cartoon that isn't on FOX or South Park.
I was weaned on the Marc Brown books (and the interactive CD version of Arthur's Teacher Trouble. God Bless LIVING B(o)(o)KS), which whetted my appetite for the show when it debuted (I was in 1st/2nd grade when it first came on).
