Why is it the Batman / Superman movie? They were episodes of Superman's show weren't they?

I can't swear to this but I think they were supposed to be both - one ep of Supes and one of Bats - primarily to introduce Bats to the Kids WB! cable station and team up with the greatest hero ever.

Hey, when in doubt use alphabetical order.

Yeah. No offense to Supes, but Batman also rolls off the tongue easier.

It's only fair anyway, since Superman got top billing in the World's Finest comics for something like 40 years. The last couple of World's Finest miniseries have also given Batman top billing.

And when The New Batman/Superman Adventures (again, Batman got top billing! ;) ) had an official website, it listed World's Finest pts 1-3 as Superman episodes guest-starring Batman.

I know it's a bit off-topic, but was anyone else besides me a little peeved that on the Batman/Superman movie they played the Superman theme during the credits instead of the TNBSA theme? And that Kevin "Batman" Conroy got THIRD billing, behind Superman and Lois Lane ?! That just bugged me.

I'm guessing it's just alphabetical order. There's only 2 ways of listing the names...I never really saw it as something really worth considering...

When CN used to show the old Filmation toons, they called it the Superman/Batman Adventures. So it all balanced out. And kept people from confusing the two somehow.

It's funny but this skirts a question I was considering starting a thread for. Starting in the thirties, and all through the eighties, Superman was easily the world's most well known, popular, and recognisable superhero character (as well as being the first and the prototype for all others). He was easily in the same league as Mickey Mouse, Elvis, The Beatles, or whoever. But lately I'm thinking that Batman may have overtaken himsince 1989. This would reflect on the question of why he's been getting top billing in such programs lately, though he never did before. Isn't that what top billing usually reflects anyway?

comments?

Say it both ways: Batman/Superman is much easier to say than Superman/Batman. Okay maybe not much...

Who knows, lets just say alphabetical, k? ;)

World's Finest was supposed to air a week before Batman premiered on Kids'WB! For some reason, KWB got the mart idea to postpone the movie until October to make it a sweeps event, and let Batman start on his own. It was supposed to introduce new viewers and Superman viewers to the world of Batman.

Ah well...we got to see it :)

As for why Batman gets top billing...maybe they flipped a coin.

I very much agree with those about how it rolls off the tongue. "Batman and Superman" sounds much better for whatever reason than "Superman and Batman".

It's probably because the transition between "and" and "sss" is soft, rolling off your tongue, while between "and" and "bbbaaa" is hard, requiring more lip movement.

I thought they played the Superman opening because technically World's Finest works out to be Superman episodes #39, 40, & 41.

As such Conroy gets third billing because he was a guest star.

Actually, I heard that the Superman/Batman Adventures is copywrited from the old Superfriends days.

Here's another question: Why do Batman toys sell better than Superman toys?
