Is widescreen for real, or are they just cutting off the top and bottom of the screen? In other words, which version shows the COMPLETE picture?

Oy, you're dredging up the oldest unsettled debate on these boards.
Both versions are the complete version.
The widescreen is considered the "true" version by many, because the images were originally story-boarded that way, and are the way Timm and company intended for it to be seen.
But, on the other hand, the widescreen version is indeed cutting off the top and bottom of the full screen images you see in the other viewings. The episodes are originally animated full screen because that's the way Cartoon Network wanted it.
So, it depends on which version you believe is the "true" version - the way Timm and company intended it to be seen, or the way Cartoon Network wanted it.

Lucky for me, I can get the best of both worlds by watching the Monday night airings, and changing the picture size of my TV to widescreen. It has that tight feel that Timm wanted, without losing the "additional" art that Cartoon Network asked for.
