Apparently, 2011's Pixar film will be "John Carter Of Mars".
And all of them sound great, especially WALL·E. The half-silent-movie thing wins me over.
The future continues to look bright for Pixar. It's interesting how they're going out of their normal realm to try and make more unique movies, for lack of a better term. I'm sure they'll succeed, as they always have in the past.

I love that Pixar is starting to push themselves in where they think they can go in terms of story. They did that with The Incredibles, and it looks that way with Ratatouille, but the plots for Wall*E and Up are wonderfully bizarre. And I'm hoping that they'll go a little darker in terms of violence and tone for John Carter of Mars. After the lackluster Cars, it looks like Pixar's getting back on track.

Up was actually revealed earlier this week in the latest issue of TIME, as reported by comingsoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=20924) this past Saturday. Regardless, it sounds like a fun and interesting concept. Looks like we've got a good set of movies up until 2010!
The John Carpenter of Mars thing worries me a tad - since it's reportedly going to be Pixar's first Live action film...

Sounds interesting. Since Pixar is doing it, I'm sure it will turn out great. Definitely an interesting concept, just like Wall E.

Only Ratatouille sounds great.

So far, most of the statements I've seen regarding a John Carter of Mars movie from Pixar have not been substantiated enough to take seriously, IMO. I don't remember anything more solid than what we reported on in January (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=14351), and even that was surrounded in a cloud of uncertainty (with the Burroughs estate saying one thing and unnamed Disney sources elsewhere saying something different). Regardless, 2011 is an eternity in movie terms, especially for licensed properties.
Really, at this point, Pixar's track record is such that I'd go see any movie that had their name on it. I thought Cars was perfectly serviceable, if not insanely great, but am getting more and more eager for Ratatouille by the day.

What's so wrong with Pixar doing live-action? They tell stories, and if they feel a story is better done in live-action, I'm gonna trust them on it. Heck, I've heard some rumors that it'll be a co-pro between Pixar and Zemicki's mo-cap studio, and they probably are calling it "live-action" because the animation bloggers would get up-in-arms about calling it "animation". The project is years away, anyway.

What's so wrong with Pixar doing live-action? I didn't say anything was wrong with it, I said it worries me. They call themselves Pixar ANIMATION Studios, not Pixar Entertainment studios. It doesn't make sense to me that they dabble in live action films when they're part of an entertainment machine that has numerous other branches that deal specifically with creating entertainment in the medium. Pixar has their craft down - they've got the clout and ability to take chances and do what they want in the realm of animation. I just don't want them squander that by jumping into a different medium.
They tell stories, and if they feel a story is better done in live-action, I'm gonna trust them on it. Sure - I have no problem with JCM being a live action film. I'm weary of it being a PIXAR film. If the people who want to bring it to life call Pixar home - I don't see why they can't momentarily shuffle themselves to one of Disney's numerous other studios that specialize on creating live action films. Pixar and Disney are both one big family...it really shouldn't be an issue.
Heck, I've heard some rumors that it'll be a co-pro between Pixar and Zemicki's mo-cap studio, and they probably are calling it "live-action" because the animation bloggers would get up-in-arms about calling it "animation". The project is years away, anyway. I highly doubt anyone cares if the people at Cartoon Brew bellyache about their animation technique (nobody to date has been shy about pointing out their use of the tool), so I find this highly unlikely. If their using Zemeckis' newly formed branch of Disney animation - why not just release it as such?
Fact of the matter is, what rumors I have heard regarding Pixar and live action have me slightly unnerved. I can't say "Pixar's going the wrong way!" because it's too far out and we know little to no facts about what's going on with it; but that doesn't mean I can be concerned. In my experience as a fan of animation - animation kings and queens often fall far from grace when they start dabbling in areas of live action; and that alone gives me enough reason to be concerned.

was The Incredibles so horrible that it didn't warrant a sequel? or at least a series?
I haven't been interested in a Pixar feature since. Maybe they'll produce something of interest in the next 5 years.

The opposite: the original was so brilliant that unless a sequel had a script of Godfather Part II-proportions ready for it, it could let down the audience and become Pixar's first real flop.

I'll try to see Ratatouille opening night, since I missed the preview showing on Saturday. The main reason I've wanted to go is Brad Bird. After all, both The Iron Giant and The Incredibles are absolutely fantastic films and both are favorites of mine. Plus, Patton Oswalt is in it and that's a great choice in casting. The reviews for it so far have been almost nothing but postive.
From what I know about WALL-E, it seems like it'll be enjoyable. Andrew Stanton is at the helm and he did a fantastic job with Finding Nemo, which is not the best of the Pixar movies but it still awesome. The fact that a good portion of it will be silent gives me the feeling that it'll make it far more different than the other things Pixar has put out in the past.
Up should be good too. It'll be directed by Bob Peterson, who's making his directing debut, and Pete Doctor, one of the directors of Monsters Inc., which is probably my third or fourth favorite of the Pixar films. It'll be nice to have a Pixar movie other than The Incredibles that doesn't rely on using anthropomorphic animals or inanimate objects. Not only that, but it has old people and based on the short, Geri's Game, Pixar can do funny things with old people.
Last year, if you would have asked if I was looking forward to Toy Story 3, I'd immediately say no. However, after the merger, it was revealed that Pixar would actually work on Toy Story 3. It was also revealed that the screenwriter is going to be Michael Arndt, the Academy Award winning screenwriter of Little Miss Sunshine, one of the best movies of 2006. Count me in.

Not really. I mean, Toy Story 3 isn't coming until a decade since Toy Story 2.

Toy Story 3 sounds good, but I can't help but wonder...who'll they get to replace the late Jim Varney as the voice of Slinky Dog?

The Pixar storyboard team does read-throughs of their movies before the cast is decided apon. Sometimes the read-throughs go by so well that the storyboard artists get cast for their characters. I'm guessing whoever did Slinky's voice in the read-throughs will probably take the full acting job.

Originally , the main plot was about Buzz Lightyear being shipped back to Taiwan which is almost like the first sequel. But , that was scrapped. So there's not much going on with the story in the news. Until then , they better get it sooner or later.

Since Pixar is more or less Disney at this point, think we'll see any Pixar animated shorts or movies featuring classic Disney characters? Imagine Mickey Mouse Clubhouse animated via Pixar.

Brad Bird discusses Toy Story 3. Could he be the director or co-director for it? Not as of now he's not. Lee Unkrich is directing Toy Story 3. Brad Bird is part of the Pixar Brain-Trust, so he's likely in the know regarding most, if not all Pixar films which are in development. That's probably all he's commenting on.
Since Pixar is more or less Disney at this point, think we'll see any Pixar animated shorts or movies featuring classic Disney characters? Imagine Mickey Mouse Clubhouse animated via Pixar.Walt Disney Feature Animation is reviving it's own shorts division - so seeing any Pixar shorts before a WDFA film is highly unlikely. Additionally, I highly doubt Pixar will being making shorts that feature classic Disney characters in the future. The studio's philosphy is that which strives for trying unique and risky things, especially with shorts (which they admit are to test out directors, software, technique, etc) - and doing classic character shorts wouldn't really fit this mentality.
