The following post is for people who own an Xbox 360.

Just recently, I picked up an Xbox 360 system myself, and I’m interested in checking out some games for the system. However, outside of a few titles listed below, I’m stumped as to which titles to check out (and in the case of Xbox Live Arcade, which games to download). So, can someone please give me a few additional recommendations for Xbox 360 games that are worth playing?

My current list of games on my list:

360 GAMES THAT I ALREADY HAVE:

-Dead Rising
-Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged (definitely got hooked on Geometry Wars Evolved)

360 GAMES THAT I’M THINKING OF BUYING:

-Dance Dance Revolution Universe
-DOAX 2 (may be pushed back to rental after hearing negative feedback about it)
-Gears of War
-Lost Planet
-Saint’s Row

360 GAMES ON MY GAMEFLY GAME Q:

-Crackdown
-Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
-Spiderman III

XBOX LIVE ARCADE GAMES THAT I’VE DOWNLOADED:

-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

XBOX LIVE ARCADE GAMES THAT I’M THINKING OF DOWNLOADING:

-Double Dragon
-Pac-Man C.E.
-TMNT Arcade

-Crackdown is a great open world game, mixing sandbox gameplay with super powers.
-Project Gotham Racing 3 is the perfect middle ground between Ridge Racer and Forza.
-Fight Night Round 3's realism makes it the most intense boxing game around.
-Earth Defense Force 2017 is pure, old shool action. Big explosions, good times.
-Guitar Hero 2 is still a great game, and the new songs and leaderboards add extra life to an already very replayable game.

-TMNT Arcade is a blast when you can get all four players going at once.
-Alien Hominid a fun side scroller, playing like a slighty more complex Metal Slug.

I also recommend Earth Defense Force 2017. All it consist of is going into a stage and just destroying every enemy on screen. It's really just that simple, but it's done in such an intense, and at times, epic way. You're just this little human being put to the task of destroying absurd amounts of giant ants, spiders, robots, flying saucers and so on. You'll be doing this for 53 missions, each of which usually trying to outdo the previous in the "you gotta be kidding me" department. It's fun. And what really adds to it is the dramatic, sci-fi music and the (obviously intentional) cheesy dialogue that you constantly hear from your teammates and HQ.

The higher difficulties are actually quite a challenge, too, forcing you to come up with some sort of strategy at times.

I loved Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, and you should be able to find them for cheap (19 bucks each or so)

Crackdown is awesome and a lot of fun to play online. So far that's gotten the most time in my 360.

Others I'd recommend are Gears of War and Oblivion.

Gears of War is short, but a lot of fun to play for the most part. It has kind of cliched storyline, but the characters are likeable. The graphics are very, very good. The cover mechanic can take some getting used to, but it's a nice change of pace from your standard shooter.

Two more traditional shooters, Prey and FEAR, are a lot of fun on the 360. Prey is the more original one. You fight your way through this alien spaceship that's sort of slimy and alive, and the 360 really makes it look gross. FEAR is very influenced by the Japanese versions Grudge and the Ring, movies like that, and has a cliched amnesia storyline. But when you get beyond that it's just fun to play. The AI soldiers are actually pretty smart and respond to what you do. Once I ran behind a pipe and heard one of them yell "He's behind the pipe." It has a "bullet time" type mechanic that's not just a tacked on feature, it's a necessary strategic element because the enemies can be so tough.

Crackdown is a lot of fun. Once you get your character fully upgraded it plays a lot less like a GTA clone and a lot more like a superhero game with guns, with lots of jumping around on buildings and throwing things. It is also short, though, and the missions completely lack variety. They are all assasination missions where you kill your way through a gang to get to a gang boss.

Saint's Row is by the same guys who did Crackdown. It is like GTA, but GTA with a major upgrade to graphics and a targeting system that doesn't suck. It's not like Crackdown in that it has a lot of creative mission types. Some people might be annoyed with it because it requires you to buy missions with "respect' and if you don't earn enough "respect" doing previous missions you have to do activities like drug trafficking and stealing cars to get it. Lots of missions, too, three whole storylines worth.

And I don't care what you've heard, Spider-Man 3 for the 360 is a good game. The Web swinging is almost as good as Spider-Man 2, the movie game, the city looks gorgeous and the missions are longer and much more involved than in Spider-Man 2, the movie game.

Maybe rent Lost Planet. It is fun, but it's kind of short and might get a little frustrating and repetitive for some players.

I'm new to my 360, but so far the most fun with games I've had are with Crackdown and Dead Rising. Just because they're so open-ended. You can just go around doing random things for hours and still have fun. That's why I went next-gen. To me it's more about what they can do to add to gameplay than just better graphics.

I've also had some good fun with Uno on Live. It's simple, yeah, but addictive.

The minute i heard that the 'Turtles' arcade game was available on XBox Live, i decided to get a 360 somewhere down the line. I'd also like to try out 'Perfect Dark Zero, and some older XBox games as well.

Crackdown = Microsoft's Real Time Worlds
Saints Row = THQ's Volition.

If you don't already have it on the PC or PS3, do yourself a big favor and buy Oblivion. Right now. I'll wait.

...

Oh, you're back. Yeah, it kicks ass, doesn't it?

Lost Planet didn't really impress me much. Crackdown and Saint's Row both look like fun, but the whole GTA thing is kind of wasted on me. I don't really play GTA all that often in the first place, all I do is kill people and run from the cops for as long as I can until I get gunned down.

To this day, I've never even seen the ending to any of the 3 GTA's I own.

So depending on your taste with GTA, here's my list.

Rainbow Six: Vegas: Yeah, Gears of War is cool as hell, but I genuinely have more fun with this game. The stages are gorgeous, the action is intense, and it's a lot of fun to tell your teammates to go set a charge on the door, watch out for the hostages, mark who their primary targets should be via a snake cam under the door, and watch everything go off smoothly.

Rumble Roses XX: The game really doesn't suck that bad, I rented it about a month ago and had a blast playing it. I don't care what anyone says, polygons or whatever the hell those chicks are made of, are capable of being hot. As long as you leave it at that, no problem. The only reason I mention this is because of your mention of DOAX2. That's just a horrible choice all around. Why jet ski with chicks who's breasts bounce seperately when you could just have them beat the crap out of each other?

Need For Speed: Most Wanted: I've always sucked at racing games, so Most Wanted actually having me get all the way so far to the #4 guy on the #1-15 Blacklist is an amazing accomplishment. The races are intense, the music is pretty sweet for an EA game, the graphics are gorgeous, but what sets it apart is the cop chases. I have never had so much fun and just completely lose myself in those cop chases. Carbon kinda downplayed it, which is why I don't say go for Carbon. Plus that skidding BS and them trying to make it NASCAR by adding teammates.

Gears Of War: It IS a sick game. Probably one of the top 3 on 360, I'm just saying I like R6 a little better. Fighting grunting aliens to save humanity on a distant planet or tactically saving Vegas from intelligent terrorists with realistic weapons but high tech type-****. It's really your preference on which of the two to get, but I'd say they're probably the top #2 and #3 games for the system.

Fight Night Round 3: The reason I bought a 360. The game I played in Best Buy, WalMart, Gamestop, EB, etc etc for a year before buying a 360. This is easily my favorite game of all time, second ONLY to Street Fighter. I've seen those ripples on the opponent's face during a knockdown probably over 5,000 times, but god damn it, I just never get tired of it. When some punk is laying into you, and all of a sudden **** changes, you gain the upper hand, then just crack him right in the face? Oh, there is just no greater feeling on this planet.

Add the fact that your Create-A-Player can look so much like you it's scary, and the way you throw punches with the analog stick actually lets you feel like YOU'RE the one in the game actually boxing. Few setbacks though, there are button users out there. People who don't respect the glorious control scheme EA Chicago has bestowed upon us.

People who, when on Live, will decimate even the most skilled of analog users simply because with the buttons you can throw punches faster. There's a special place in hell reserved for those people, so don't fret. I wasn't a fan of them removing the ability to customize your ring girl, entrance music, and entrance itself. It doesn't seem like much, but it really takes a lot out of the game. Career Mode is pretty boring overall, and I'll never understand how Muhammed Ali is like the 4th person I fought, but when you're in a fight, none of that matters.

Playing this game cures cancer. Seriously. If you have a 360, you owe it to yourself to get this game, make a character that looks like you, and there goes alllll your frustration.

Runner's Up: Tony Hawk Project 8, Hitman, Street Fighter HD Remix (It's not out yet, but dammit you better own it when it does)

I've only had the 360 for a couple of months, but so far, I can easily recommend Saints Row, PGR 3 (I got it for $10 via ebay, and have had more fun with it than anything else on the system), Viva Pinata, and Geometry Wars: RE.
