NEWS FLASH!!!

If you haven't added Fullmetal Alchemist to your DVD collection, well, now you have no good excuse.

Fullmetal Alchemist - Season 1 Part 1 Box Set – Available in Stores September 18, 2007

You know, the series Anime Insider magazine called, "Entertaining, heart-breaking and thought-provoking. One of—if not the—greatest anime ever.“

EVER - that's like "whoa! ever is huge!" - Yeah...EVER

Season 1 Part 1 includes the first 16 episodes and 4 booklets providing over 80 pages of supplemental content. All wrapped up in a digipak release for $49.98.

NICE!

Avoid those crappy, crappy bootleg DVDs. If you've been conned in getting a bad bootleg FMA DVD or box set thinking it's the real thing, please send me a private message with the website or retail store info and we'll teach them a lesson in Equivalent Exchange ;)

Here's an image to whet your appetite.

Tin box, or Box-box?

Nice. So there will probably be 3 sets total. This is much more appealing than the individual DVDs.

16 episodes eh? thats good, your not completely screwing over those of us that haven't gotten rid of all the singles yet. FMA sales have died to 0 since Shamballa came out.

I really like that packaging art.

4, actually.

Well, if it's 16 episodes per set, that would leave 3 episodes by their lonesome.

From what it looks like, FUNi's not re-doing the discs like ADV does with their boxsets, so we'll probably see Volumes 1-4 with this set, Volumes 5-8 with Set 2, and then Volumes 9-13 with Set 3 (or Volumes 5-9 with Set 2 and Volumes 10-13 with Set 3, but whatever). Kinda like the Samurai 7 boxset except with a bigger series.

Though, if that IS the case, the "Season 1 - Part 1" thing doesn't make much sense. Unless it's being divided up so that the final set includes the OAVS and/or the single-disc version of Shamballa.

I'm just going by what Lance has said elsewhere (http://www.animeondvd.com/forum/showpost.php?post/468050/). ;)

That still means that unless Sets 2-4 are going to have 12-13 episodes per set, there will still be 3 episodes left over. And if it is 12 episodes per set, that means it'll be $50 for 3 discs. That's Naruto-level right there.

Well, the discs are the same as the singles, and there were 13 of those total, correct? So Set One has 4 DVD's, and the rest follow as 3/3/3.
Or episode-wise: 16/12/12/11.

At least there aren't nearly as many sets to collect.

Yea, but I personally like Naruto more than FMA (FMA isn't even in my Top 5 FUNi shows list), so I think I'll skip these and buy the 2-disc sets when FUNi releases them in 2010.

"Season 1 - Part 1"?

Since when does FMA have seasons? Why confuse people now?

It's a rip off. They'll probably do what they did with Hakusho and rerelease the same episode line up squished onto a two disc set, sans the books, for 30 bucks.

If they do 2-disc sets, it likely won't be like YYH, where discs were specifically created for the release. It'll probably be like Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Kiddy Grade, Burst Angel, Samurai 7, and Desert Punk where it'll be the same discs as the singles, just in a 2-disc DVD case (and one release being 3 discs since it's an uneven volume count).

So, this box has the first four single discs collected in one box?

What's a digi-pack? Can someone post pictures of what I can expect if I want to buy this set?

*Wishes they'd use the boxes Bandai uses for Anime Legends*

Digi-packs are clear DVD trays glued onto custom-printed cardboard boxes.

Notable examples include:
- All boxsets from the Bruce Timm DCAU
- Almost every Adult Swim DVD Set
- Samurai 7 Boxset
- World of Narue Boxset
- Most Warner Bros. boxsets
- Most Transformers boxsets

Digi-Paks are the cardboard fold out cases with plastic trays glued onto them to hold the discs.

its what most bootlegs come in.

Tempting... but my commitments are to Naruto and of course One Piece. But maybe... since it'll just be four sets and it is a great show (which I've seen plenty of times though).

Well, if they use the same style as DBZ Season One, then it'll only have three flaps, which isn't too bad for a digipak.

Still, I'd rather see 2-disc thinpaks with reversible covers. 2-disc Thinpaks > Everything else. A shame FUNi only used them on the Lupin boxsets.

I've been waiting to get FMA on DVD and this is the perfect chance for me.
The only long running series next to FMA that I'm collecting is Tsubasa.

Usually a 49.98 release has a couple of stores that will sell it for $30 or under. If I were you, and really wanted to get a deal on it, I would wait for Best Buy's release, they always slash anime prices. I always get anime DVD's (ESPECIALLY BOXED SETS) for half price. I can't wait to snag this, FMA is one of my favorite animes, and I've seen it about 3 times, and still love it.

This is my second favorite anime (nothing can topple Cowboy Bebop from the top spot), so I will at def. buy it!!!!

I saw the single discs for $7.99 on sale a month ago, and I thought about buying them, but I didn't. Now I am GLAD I didn't.

Why would they need to make new discs for a thinpak? Just use the singles.

I was thinking that I wished I hadn't started picking up the singles for FMA when I realized I only have the first 16 episodes on DVD so instead of getting the rest of the singles I can just grab the rest of the sets when they come out. That'll make catching up so much easier - and cheaper. Yay.

Eh? Of course not. The discs themselves would be the exact same as the singles, just in 2-disc thinpak cases. Again, like the Lupin Movie Boxsets FUNimation did. Those types of packaging allows the companies to showcase the series' art while also putting out an attractive product and gives the consumer a space-saving package, the last of which ADV's 1-disc thinpaks can't offer.

Meh, I think I'd prefer the AL bricks, *pokes 8th MS Team*, but I guess I can see why you want thin-packs.

*Stares at his own shelf*

I'm gonna need to rid myself of those old DBZ tapes, and soon.

Nope. All the books (80 pages worth) and all the original DVDs (4).
