The Story:
The X-Men are back from space! Well, half of them, anyway. The team is shattered, broken and separated. The group that has returned to earth is finding it much worse than how they left it-- especially underground. Attacks in the Morlock Tunnels immediately grab the X-Men’s attention. What do these attacks have to do with the future of the mutant race? Maybe special guest-star Storm can get to the bottom of all this!

Note to self: I need to start posting my own comments on this story arc...that used to be a rule of mine for our talkback threads: if you start it up, you better post in it and tell us your thoughts! But is anyone else enjoying this arc?

Allright, I said I'd comment on this story arc, and not that it's halfway over, I think it's past time to start.

For starters, Salvador Larroca is, and always has been, the perfect X-Men artist. His depictions of the X-Men and the Morlocks are perfect, (and it's amazing how gruesome he can depict some of the Morlocks, and those who were affected by the terrorist attack). These are some horrifying figures!!

Still, I miss Billy Tan...when is he doing interiors for this book again?!?

Ed Brubaker, well, now that we're back on Earth, his story isn't interesting me as much as Mike Carey's is on X-Men. I'm not certain why that is...

As for the back up story, (with Beast still searching for the cure for mutants) I'm really enjoying this arc! I think it's Marvel's way of testing to see if a weekly X-Men story would do well. And Christos Gage's script is perfect, (why isn't he writing a regular X-Men book yet?!?)

I guess we're all just waiting for Messiah Complex to start, but this is a "good enough" X-Men title for my tastes...

The Story:

“THE EXTREMISTS”
This is it, the final showdown between the X-Men and the terrorist branch of the Morlocks. But how can they win with Warpath and Hepzibah captured and Storm buried under a ton of debris? The future is at stake and it all centers on Magneto. But what role will the former Master of Magnetism play? Part 5 (of 5)
Featuring Endangered Species Chapter 14 – Beast nearly sold his soul to science for a chance to cure the effects of M-Day. But when the rational arts fail him, he turns to the mystical arts and Doctor Strange!

I did not enjoy this arc as the Rise and Fall. Maybe it is my dislike of Morlock stories, but this did not do a whole lot for me. I enjoyed the Endangered Species backups more than the Morlock stories.
