View Full Version : What do you like/dislike about The World's Finest and The DCAF? Tell Us!

Hey everyone,

We're looking for feedback on The World's Finest (http://www.worldsfinestonline.com) and the accompanied forums. With a site revamp on the way and early plans in motion for new additions and content to the site (A subsite for the upcoming DC Universe DTVs? Check! A Legion of Super-Heroes subsite? Working on it!), I thought it would be the opportune time to ask for some feedback. We're looking to improve the site in any way possible and hopefully you great folks can help us out!

The World's Finest has been around for years, evolving as it had to in order to stay up to date, but also paying homage to the shows that inspired it. We take this website very seriously, and I like to think that it shows. We may not splash "the ultimate website" or claim we're the "authority" on some character all over the website, but we know we're the best! We don't need to repeat it everywhere. However, now we want to make sure we can offer you more on the site, making it better for you folks! So tell us what you like and dislike about this site. What would you add? Take away? What's desperately needed? What's taking up valuable space on the website?

What do you like/dislike about The World's Finest and The DCAF? Give us your feedback!

If you wish to provide feedback, please respond to this thread, PM me, or send me an email at bbeyond@yahoo.com.

This isn't a complaint, but I think it would be nice for the avatars for the final seasons of Batman Beyond to be updated, if that's not too much trouble. :)

I think the World's Finest Website is very informative an easy looking, but not always up to date on episodes of The Batman, reviews and various DVD/Books are not up to date.

No complaints here but just one suggestion.I once posted an article taken from animato magazine 1994 about "B:TAS:Behind the scenes".IMO it would be kind of cool if they were part of the backstage section of B:TAS in "The Worlds Finest".Its for you guys to decide of course.

I know all of The Batman episodes are up-to-date and we're desperately behind on TT GO! and The Batman Strikes! comic book reviews (anyone who wants to contribute a well-written, couple paragraph review of any missing issues of those series is more than welcome), but what DVD pages aren't up to date?

Being worked on! I didn't realize I never finished that.

Ah, more stuff I forgot. I believe I was going to do that at one point and I completely forgot. I'll locate the thread later this week and hopefully get that all updated.

LOSH coverage will likely come when it arrives on DVD. I just don't want to make a new website with inferior screengrabs and doing screengrabbing/panning twice is a really large waste of time.

Keep the suggestions coming, I'm copying them all down on my to-do list!

You might want to revamp the Unused Villains Database section so it would look more constant with the rest of the site.

World's Finest is an amazing site, of course more screenshots the better! And more wallpaper never hurts.

The forums on the other hand, I feel aren't too welcoming to newer folks just discovering the greatness of DCAU. Quite often newcomers bring up topics that may have been discussed by oldtimers, and threads tend to get locked rather quickly or beat down by long standing members. It's hard trying to find new things to talk about considering DCAU is dead, but to some people it's new. I'm sure there's some balance between allowing new folks to speak without boring the old members.

Well it's got some awesome screencaps, but the "Batman: The Animated Series" section could use some "meatier" reviews. The reviews in there are pretty short and don't go into much depth about the episodes. They're more like little blurbs on the episodes rather than full-fledged reviews.

Those are being worked on, if I recall. I believe Zach actually said if anyone was willing to volunteer to review certain episodes then he'd happily put them on the site.

I might be misremebering here though. Zach, wherefore art thou?

I have used the World's Finest site for years & find it to be a great resource. It is too bad the DCAU is over, but those DTV's do provide hope.
So just being up on the DTV news & stuff is good anuff for me.
Not a fan of the new toons though (the batman & LOSH). But ya know what they say, if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all!
So as long as you follow the Timm stuff & DTV's, I will always come back!
Plus, please always keep a ear open for the possible DTV's of World's Collide & the Apocolypse of 09". I am sure I am not the first person to write or comment about that!

I've been a big fan of this site for years.
And I've always been very impressed with the scope of content.
The only thing I can think of right now that I've always kinda wanted to see is Character appearence lists in various bios.
Obviously not for mainstays like Batman or Superman, but other important characters i.e. listing Joker's or Brainiac's episodes in their bio sections.
Certainly that's a lot of data compliling, for such a small nitpick, but I figured I might as well suggest it.

Also you could add a "Fun Facts" bit to the episode reviews. Like the Farmer Brown truck in "Ulitmate Thrill" or fact that "Patirot Act" stars the characters from "Seven Soldiers of Victory" fame. Probably stuff that well versed fans already know, but would be interesting to people who may just be discovering the shows on DVD. Heck I didn't even know about significance of the grouping in "Patriot Act" until I was randomly surfing Wikipedia a little while back. Not every ep has these kinds of things but it would be a fun addtion to the episode review sections, another reason to sift through those pages again after you've revamped things.

These are merely some minor suggestions from a greatfull community member.
Thanx for all you're hard work on the site.

I would like MORE complete Bios for the older shows, like JL and JLU has. Like the Joker's crime spree's in BTAS ete. Instand of the same old same old that WB posted in the early 1990's.

They were being worked on, but no one really contributed anything that was meaty enough. All I got were a few paragraph line reviews and it hardly seemed worth updating if that's all we got. Plus it only covered about ten episodes.

All good ideas. We used to have "episode appearances" but they were dropped in favor of the "First Appearances." The idea behind that was that it'd be easier than updating the bios everytime something new aired. As for the fun facts, also a cool idea, but as you say it's a lot of data compiling and time consumption.

If anyone wants to put together lists of this stuff I'll add them to the website, but I just don't have the time to be keeping the site up-to-date as well as going back and adding stuff to the older show sub-sections.

Please do reviews of Teen Titans Go! and the other Johnny DC titles. :( I miss the old episode reviews and since there are no more new episodes, regular reviews would be a great way of keeping the site in action. ;)

It's on the docket. We're trying to get those and The Batman Strikes! reviews done. We're way behind, and, again, if theres volunteers, I'd be glad to add the reviews.

Again, I'd love to add it, but it's gonna have to be user submitted. Once I re-design WF I may put up a volunteer page for users to submit information to help build up the site. In the end it will still rely on my posting of it, but as long as I get a steady flow of new stuff to add, it's easier for me to schedule weekly updates than one random update.

So...yup. Late replies, but been busy. Thanks guys and keep the comments coming!

Make it something like Wiki I guess???

I have a personal distaste for all things Wiki related, but yeah that's the general drift. I'll do the updating, but as long as people submit the content, since it's what they and others want to see. I just don't have the time and energy to devote more to the older shows (having screengrabbed them all to death, I run out of steam after that).

While this site is an unparalleled resource, it does lack a comprehensive list of show-related tie-ins. I realize going into depth about action figures and such would be time consuming (and other sites are already doing it), but maybe featuring interesting or rare memorabilia in new sections could further round-out the coverage.

For example, there were B:TAS books pulished for kids and adults alike (seperate from the comics). Why not get some reviews up on those? Or scan some pages of the tie-in books for kids? Many of them have artworks by folks who worked on the comics and shows?

For me, it's as much about talking about the present as it is preserving the past. In another ten years, young folks might come here and wonder why the DCAU was such a big thing. Trying to cover just how wide-spread it's affects were might be valuable.

Just a thought. And here's another - I'm also for more screengrabs. They're just so cool!

Hey Jim, great topic. I'm glad you've opened up the forum for everyone to speak relatively freely. Without further delay... here is my feedback:

I don't like the idea of consolidating topics into one huge thread.

When a thread is more than 5-10 pages long, it's pretty common for a thread to fly off topic anyway. So I see no point in doing this. If a topic is hot, it will stay hot. If it's not, it will simply bump out of existence.

I know you guys said you wouldn't, but I would want a section on the "Legion of Super Heroes". Because that's the only one of today's DC-related shows that makes it feel like the site is missing something.

On existing sections; I would like to have more like music and images. Oh, and on the images, I don't know if the size was the issue but the size fopr JLU was better than the others. So could the others be retaken?

But I would like a pre-DCAU section on the old cartoons. Like reviews and media extras from the '40s Superman cartoons, Filmation shows, the Superfriends saga.

That would be it.

Music is difficult to get out of episodes, so the chances of me being able to do that is slim. As for the images, I assume you mean screengrabs. JLU's are larger because of the DVD transfer. I can't make the others larger without making them look worse.

Regardless if they could be retaken, I don't want to screengrab the hundreds of episodes spanned across the series. What's up there for the episodes in the screengrab area is what will always be there (except The Batman, which will eventually be updated. Not sure if I'll ever update Teen Titans).

WF covers BTAS-present. We don't have any plans to do sections for the older toons, both because we don't have time and because neither Jim or myself have any interest in devoting time to the cartoons as we don't find any enjoyment from watching them.

At one point I was planning on doing a full blown action figure guide. Instead I spent that summer doing the Spawn website. I'm sure thats a downside for you guys, but it was an up for me. :p

As much as I'd love to catalog and devote pages to all of the merchandising, Batman: Animated did a wonderful job of that by itself.

I'd update the episodes with new reviews and update character biographies with lists of episodes they appeared in, assuming people would want to devote time to doing that.

We still want to do a Fleischer site, but honestly, all the cartoons from the 60s-80s I cannot stand to watch. I appreciate that many people do enjoy watching them, but I cannot see myself devoting any time to things I don't enjoy (I did that due to fan demand of a Static Shock sub-section and I still feel that was the biggest waste of my time to date on WF).

I would to see some character design on each character on all of the Dc show.

That's dependent on what he studios give. We always request them, but they aren't always willing to give them up.

Love World Finest, love the forum...darn, the forum is my second home :crying:

As a suggestion Id say you guys should make a section on World finest for the DCAU around the world. Talk about dubs (the actors, versions, quality of the translations, etc), tv airings, dvd releases and all that kind of stuff. It would be an awesome add on since you guys have visitors from everywhere and u usually make reviews and stuff for the north american audience. You could even have the help from all the DCAU fans around the world to make it done :)

As I said before, character designs are dependent on what we get from the studios. If they're small, that's because that's what they gave us.

Which ones are pixellated and stretched? I know some of the "Justice League", "Teen Titans" and "The Batman" ones have a "smushed" look to that, but that's because of how they came off of that old C-Toons stuff. Not much I can do about that, I'm afraid.

Oh I don't care if they are small, I'm not complaining, I was just comparing the normal (small and unpixelated) to things like this: http://worldsfinestonline.com/WF/beyond/bios/brucewayne/m04.gif

Which is stretched, or
