Between August 1999 and December 2002, I was an avid collector of Pokémon cards. I still have a humongous binder full of them on a shelf in my old bedroom (now a guest room), stuffed with cards from every set from Base to Neo Destiny. I never completed so much as one set, though the Base set came pretty close - and even then, I cheated with a couple of Base Set 2 cards.
I didn't play the game much, although I was part of my local branch of the Pokémon TCG League. I was never all that hot at deck building, so I bummed decks off the moderators all the time. In fact, I got banned from deck borrowing after I switched a card in one mod's deck without her permission, and I believe it was shortly after that incident that I quit. It also didn't help that I had a really lousy collection of holofoil doubles, so I wasn't a very good trader. I still consider myself lucky that I managed to score a Base set Charizard off that one kid.
My final endeavor with the cards was on Christmas morning of 2002, when I received a Neo Destiny booster pack in my stocking that contained - lucky me - an ultra-rare Shining Gyarados card. I don't know if I felt that was a goal I had achieved at long last or something, but I just stopped collecting the cards after that. I mean, hey, once you've got a red Gyarados in your collection, what's really left?
Of course, this was before they completely revised the game for the third generation. Looking at sites like PokéBeach, I'm thinking I missed out on some pretty cool stuff.

I played the game against my sister, then I just started collecting it by "asking" other kids to give them to me.
A couple of years ago, I sold most of my cards, including my fake shiny Ditto card! It was hard to find buyers there in Japan, they were more interested in the Japanese cards than the American cards.
I still have a few, including a Mew card.

I actually just got them because I was a huge fan of the show and all, just trying to get those 150 pokemon. I barely even knew about the game that was around it, I just collected at trade. Never played, I tried to learn the rules, but I was just way into yugioh by then.

I used to collect these, but it was during my "Lol Pokeygentlemen" era where everyone loved Pokemon. However, I didn't actually play it because (as the Game Boy game showed me) it's one of the most ridiculously complicated card games ever made.

are you serios about it being complicated?! it super easy! i play the card game video game! but you have to think about it this way: the game is some waht different than the acutall thing.but it has changed alot since that game was made.i wish there was somebody here who still played.:( i mean i have a friend who would most-likely play with me.if not i'll do what i used to do cuz i didnt like to leave the house: play against my puppy or myself!:D seriously i do that!and i have an amzingly fun time!!!!:p

i am still on the search for people who play.there are thousands who play but just i know of around my area.
I don't only play I also run and staff events by PUI/PUSA. Getting back into the TCG should be easy, I can get you get caught up, give you a few tips and even help you find people to play in your area.
The new website is www.go-pokemon.com, of course the old URLs just forward you there. Click on OP which means Official Play to find leagues and tournaments. Right now the play season is ending as only National Championships and Worlds (in Hawaii) are left but a new season starts in September with Battle Roads (fall), City Championships and State championships. And of course Pokemon Leagues are all year, I am about to order the Giovanni season and after that we start the Diamond and Pearl badges in mid summer.

As an avid Magic: the Gathering player, 1999 was a year of War. Pokemon's popularity dominated everywhere. And for months, the Pokwmopn Card Game was #1. This led to a rather hillarious episode in history in which Magic and Pokemon fans were in intense rivalry. InQuest, the gaming magazine's letter commluns were filled with fans bashing each other, though in half-jest. It was hillarous. Great times :)
These days, the Pokemon card game provides me with nostalgic memory of good old times passed.
