If this is true, then its time to get very worried about the release of Cowboy Bebop the movie in this country.

Looks like Columbia/Tri Star is following FOX's lead and is basically saying "F You Yoko Kanno".

Hey guys.

I'm really sorry i'm bothering you. It's kinda of a important issue for anime and movie fans. As you know, Columbia TriStar has the rights for the Cowboy Bebop movie ("Knocking on Heaven's Door"). The movies is expected in limited theaters around August. For a while we knew that, and this matter was confirmed when the Metropolis DVD was announced with a Cowboy Bebop trailer in its extras section.

The problem is: according to rumors running around, the movie will be re-scored. Bebop is famous for its music, composed by award winning Yoko Kanno. It's only natural these rumors come as a shock to the fans. I'm writing to you because the anime comunity is pretty much overlooked by the "big" ones. They don't visit anime sites.

But they do visit Aintitcool.

Could you somehow post something bout these rumors so Columbia become aware of how scared the fans are about this rumor?

The rumor is mentioned on this site and several others... http://www.animeacademy.com/

"... then you come across this piece of blasphemy. Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment is rumored to be creating an English soundtrack for the American release of Cowboy Bebop. This new soundtrack would replace the one composed by the legendary Kanno Yoko. Now I have seen it all..."

Thank you very much for your attention,

Beto "The Shape" Machado bjgmachado@sec.secrel.com.br

This is unacceptable for the typical anime soundtrack, but something by Yoko Kanno!?!?!?!?! Go to hell C/T, you heard me, GO TO HELL.

If they're so disrespectful to the movie itself, I can't see them doing what the fans desire them to do, using the original dub cast.

And once again I'd just like to point out that this is not yet official, so there's still a glimmer of hope. Start praying like I am.

I just watched the subbed version last night and i thought the music was one of the best parts in the movie. Ill be very dissapointed if they change it. Not to mention the songs were in english already. And i really hope they use the original dub cast. I dont know if i can get uses to another set of voices :(

Maybe we can at least get a Jap. version if it's released for DVD. You know they're going to get new voices, DAMN YOU C/T.

At LEAST get ZRO Limit Productions to do the voices/translations again.

Guys.

Sony will NOT change the music.

Remember Metropolis? Sony put that in theaters with subtitles, and the original Japanese audio track.

At the very least, Bebop will have the ORIGINAL JAPANESE CAST WITH SUBTITLES, and the original music.

If we're lucky, they'll shell out extra money to get the original English cast. Let's hope.

Exactly. This rumor is nothing but a rumor and a rather unfounded one at that. It probably got started in this fashion:

Person 1: Hey, did you hear that Sony got the rights to release the Cowboy Bebop movie? I hope they don't screw it up.
Person 2: Wow, I hope they can get the original English Voice Cast to return. They were SOOOO good :)
Person 3: Oh god, WHY? I hate it when big companies try to get into anime, Disney almost ruined Princess Monoke by wanting to change the music and planning to release it dub only.
Person 4: They better not change the music for the movie to make it more "suitable" for American audiences.
Person 5: If they change the music, I sure won't be buying.
Person 6: Wait, Sony might change the music to Bebop? That's stupid!

Person 7 now posts on his/her site:
There's a rumor that the upcoming Cowboy Bebop movie might have it's music changed!!!

And then this news spreads throughout major sites all over the place. As Matt mentioned, Sony is being very faithful to Metropolis (DTS & 5.1 sound for the Japanese track and 5.1 for the English) and has worked very hard on that release to provide something that will please the anime community. I doubt SERIOUSLY they have any plans to change anything with Bebop's music. Considering the LARGE fan-base for the show, that would be suicide.

Exactly.

The only thing Sony doesn't do right is theater distribution. It would be great for them to put it in theaters all over the US, but they always do the "only 5 cities in America" thing.

Geez, I was really scared for a second there. I heard that they have been talking to the original English cast about it, but I don't know if anything happened. I am soooo glad that they have the brains not to change the score. Why would they have even done that?
