There is a new Conan The Cimmerian (better known as 'The Barbarian') animated film in the works.
And before anyone jokes about the title, the "Red Nails" animated movie is based on the Robert E. Howard story by the same title: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Nails
The voice cast looks pretty good.
Ron Perlman is voicing Conan.
Clancey Brown is voicing King Olmec
And Mark Hamill is voicing Tolkemec.
Here are the links.

Oh sweet, that is great news. I'd love to see a lot of animated Conan movies, epecially if they are faithful to the stores as Dark Horse has been.

The voice cast is curtainly top notch. I hope it is a good movie too.
By the way, if you are a Conan fan, you need to check out the new Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures MMORPG being worked on (slated for 2007 Oct): http://community.ageofconan.com/
The detail of the world in the game and class system in the game looks very promising.
A link to the classes system is found here: http://community.ageofconan.com/conan/frontend/static/classlist/

I'm pretty sure this is DOA unless they can work thing out with Dark Horse over the rights.

Production had already started long ago. I don't know what's holding this film up (it was supposed to be out last year) but I'm sure it isn't rights issues; the official website just started updating again so the project is still on.

On the official Conan forums, someone who claimed to be close to the production mentioned awhile ago that they were having rights issues with Dark Horse. The reason being was that DH apparently was supposed to be involved with any Conan based project based on the deal they negotiated with the Howard estate.

Toon Zone News last reported on this DTV in 2005 (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=7501). However, the News section of the movie's site says that the writer/producer will start blogging in May about the movie, and the front page has a note from him saying that the site is back up and the movie is back in production.

Conan Properties International would very much dispute the idea that Conan is part of the public domain (http://www.conan.com/ip.shtml). Just because something was created in the 1930's does not make it part of the public domain -- otherwise, Mickey and Bugs Bunny would be public domain as well.

Ah. Now this is interesting indeed. I wonder if they will attempt to be faithful to Howard's vision or how the piece will turn out.

There's a great deal of controversy about whether or not various Howard works are public domain.

Well if it shows up on Cartoon Network it will probably air on Toonami and not Adult Swim. When it comes to aniumated movies they can get away with a lot, even on Toonami.

I think that it depends on a lot of things; by the way, is this cell animation or CGI?

Awesome, there really has been a dearth of solid action animation of late unless you look to Japan.
Now if I could randomly wish for a moment, how about a serial Conan cartoon with Adult Swim level content? An awesome western action show not made for kids... what a concept.
