do think they should Make a justice League Movie?

I'm going to have to vote "no" -- Hollywood rarely gets it right when they do a live adaptation of a comic book. The Superman movies were adequate, Batman increasingly bad, X-Men was mediocre, and every indication is that Wonder Woman, if ever made, will be dreadful. X-Men was further proof that a live adaption of a superheroe team is extremely tricky -- too many characters to focus on.

No.

If they can't handle multiple villains in the Batman films, any chance they can handle multiple heroes?

It would be hard to do the JLA justice (pun intended) in a live action movie unless it was like six hours long and directed by Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.

So basically...

Live action JLA = no
Theatrical release of new JL movie = DEFINITELY :D

Ditto. An animated movie like MOTP would be the best. They can't seem to pull off the character's traits. Infact, not many movies have done that. It's all about the action and what not for them.

Only if they allow the writers from BTAS do it. The writers of other live action movies / TV shows never get it right except for the first BATMAN movie and the first and second Superman. The rest were mediocre to awful.

And please, hold the aliens/magic/gadgets. Just give them a normal earthling who's hard to catch and give it a good plot. This is supposed to be a venue for adults, but with all the shoot-first-ask-questions-later action and less emphasis on a good story, you think they were aiming it for kids with short attention spans.

NONONONONONONONONONONO!

They can't even get Batman right....now you want to team him up with a number of other super heros, to fight....something....possibly (knowing WB), a BUNCH of villians working to gether ala Legion of Doom...it would have no characterization, no decent plot...it would stink.

Also, WB would never be able to bankroll such a project. You're talking 7 lead actors/actresses. Factor in wardrobe & special efx...fuhgetaboutit!!! 5 of the 7 fly. 4 of them have ultra superstrength. MM has phasing powers. Then we're talking sets & props. And royalties galore!

I'd much rather see a JL animated feature w/ a hardcore storyarc, like Darkseid and/or Ra's al Ghul. The problem is that they may have already taken the Darkseid plot to the extreme w/ the Legacy storyline. Can the writers trump his last scheme?

And what of Ra's? Last we saw of him was in the BB epsiode Out of the Past, when he returned in the body of Talia. And before that we saw him juicing up on Superman's strength before falling into the river below. I'm not up to date of the continuity of the Gotham Adventures book, but there could be an interesting story here.

In the BB ep Out of the Past, Terry alluded to the Apocalypse of '09...so the writers can work w/ that. Perhaps in '09, Ra's unleashes a plague or something, a force the JL cannot easily conquer. Also, Ra's is still diesel from his run-in w/ Supes.

While the rest of the JL is in battle, Batman & Ra's have a final confrontation, resulting in Talia's betrayal of her father. She and her Beloved defeat Ra's...for good it appears. But Talia refuses to leave her dying father's side. Ultimately, Talia sacrifes her body and mind to save her father's life. The plague defeated and the threat of Ra's seemingly over, the JL goes home happy...except for Batman, for he had lost his truest love...the next time they meet is 40 yrs or so in the distant future.

For added flavor, I suppose Ra's can employ Poison Ivy. She may be the one who engineered the biological plague. She'd love nothing more than to erase man off the Earth. She & Ra's are both eco-terrorists who'd love to return the planet to it's former prestine glory. I'm liking the possibilities here.

Oh, I know there was a similar plot in the DCU called Contagion. Was Ras' behnd that scheme...and was Poison Ivy involved too. I don't get to read DCU often. I' more into the animation.

It probably will be '09 by the time this project gets off the ground. :)

I'll have to say no. If they can't get a movie with just Batman right how will they get seven heroes right?

They could make a Superfriends movie though that kind of makes fun of the genre sort of like Austin Powers makes fun of the spy genre.

Uh-uh. No. First let's try to find a good actor, a good director, and a good script for one Batman film and one Superman film. Then we'll see. We have to find an unknown in their mid-thirties for both of these characters.

As for the rest of the JL, including Bats and Supes, the people who last played them well are no longer able to because of age and other situations. The people who voiced them on their respective series don't look the part or are too old now to do it.

I recommend an animated movie rather than a live-action one.

This is why DC products have a tough time getting off the ground. Even the hardcore fans are scared of their own shadows when it comes to developing the characters for the big screen.

They can't even get Batman right? Says who? Tim Burton's films were wonderful, in my opinion. Smallville is a terrific take on the Superman mythos. The X-Men movie wasn't mediocre, it was a lot of fun -- and they didn't make it campy. Even my wife enjoyed it.

In these days of Spider-Man, LOTR and the Matrix, special fx are easier to do. The cast of such a movie wouldn't need to include seven A-List actors; in fact, it would deter from the believability, a la George Clooney in a cowl.

Imagine the classic JLA costumes toned down a bit. Then imagine the cast, living their seemingly normal lives -- working in a corporate office, at a newspaper, on the beat as a cop, or at the drawing board in an apartment office. Then, they all converge on a CGI-rendered satellite headquarters, somewhat recognizable, even in their stylized uniforms and masks. The world is on alert as a mammoth asteroid is on a collision course with the planet. And Superman says, "No problem. We're on it."

Larger than life -- so big, the big screen can barely contain them! Not only should this movie be made, it NEEDS to be made. Naysayers be darned!!!

Well, if we're scared of our shadows it's because WB has a terrible tendency to jump out and say "Boo!" Yes, Burton's films were nice. But WB hated them, and maneuvered him out of the franchise as quickly as they could, and brought in the more malleable Schumacher to camp them up. The horror stories about them giving the new "Superman" film to Jon Peters, despite the fact that Peters knows squat about the franchise, only reinforces the suspicion that WB doesn't know what to do with this stuff.

The fact is that WB considers these things to be "franchises" to be milked, and that means that executives and producers (who don't know what they're doing or contributing) will be micromanaging the properties so as to protect their investments. Given such a background, pessimism (though unfortunate) is a perfectly rational response.

Hey Kats
Just had to jump in on this.
Many, many good points as to why a Justice League live action flick could not be done right, however there are ways it could be done right. I've worked as a storyboard artist in live action productions for the past 9 years and as such I've been privy to many meetings with both directors and producers of such series and films as The Sentinel,Millennium, Dr. Who, Smallville ect.ect. and the reason some of these shows hit( ie: Smallville, X-Men ) and don't (Dr.Who, the Schumacher Batmans) is really quite simple. Understanding and caring about the source material. When I was meeting with David Nutter (director on the Smallville pilot). He had done an enormous amount of research on Superman and Superboy, but he knew something that it seems only a few like Bryan Singer, Sam Rami and Tim Burton know. To make these concepts work they have to be played straight and they have to be something we haven't seen before.
Everytime a franchise is taken in a supposedly audience-safe direction, it kills it. It's funny, but Hollywood executives will be blown away by The Matrix, they'll completely buy into the "suspension of disbelief" in it because they had never seen it before. Comic book characters suffer from the preconcieved notion that they are for kids and no one over 20 will believe in a guy flying around in a cape and yet Superman the movie breaks attendance records. When Batman the movie premiered, most people (outside of the comic book fans) only knew Batman from some sketchy memories of youth and the Adam West series. Then all of a sudden the world was brought up to speed about this character. For them it was a brand new take. Serious, no joke, played for real. Screenwriter Samm Hamm was a comic book fan and it showed. Tim Burton took the project seriously and it showed. When Bryan Singer was approached to do X-men, it was because he was a serious director who understood character. He pitched it to the producers like a "Usual Suspects" with super powers, not a special effects extravaganza.
Sometimes we as fans get too attached to the way we want our favorite character portrayed on the big screen. But a good director who truelly takes the source material seriously and is creative can deliver the goods in an exciting and satisfying way. When I hear that the budget fot MIB 2 is well in excess of 200 million dollars I think of what an amazing Justice League movie could be done. Go the X-Men route, hire working actors, relative unknowns no big stars. Keep the talent budget tight and put your money into the creative. Get a director who understands character dynamic and a scriptwriter who loves and knows the JLA.
In this era of advanced special effects, where an Onstar commercial looks more on than the last 2 Batman movies there's a geniuine opportunity to do a JL movie right.
I have very high hopes for Spiderman, and the Arnofsky/Miller Batman year one.
It seems like they're in professional hands.

Superman ep "The Demon Reborn". A dying Ra's al Ghul travels to Metropolis to absorb Superman's strength. This was the follw-up to World's Finest. While Supes is being led around on a collar, Bats is out bustin heads trying find Ra's.

A great ep, one that could definitely be built upon in an epic JL story arc.

Good lord, how did I miss this one?! Figures, I'd have to miss one of the coolest episodes of the series ever. :(

I'm not sure what the consensus is about "Demon Reborn," but I thought it was not very good.

We are awfully cynical, aren't we? Ask if we want a live action JL movie and the first thought that crosses our minds is, "What is the studio going to do with it?" Not: Are there artists who are capable of pulling it off? Not: Wouldn't this just be incredibly cool? Not: Is there any chance in hell that a talented writer/director/producer team could make a worth-while film out of the idea?

Hey Maxie
I agree, if Batman and Robin did anything positive, it showed Hollywood that even a cash cow will run dry if handled improperly. When that movie tanked, there was a backlash attitude that superhero movies weren't popular anymore. Hence the delays filming Superman Lives. Then when The Matrix and X-men showed it could be done both financially and stylistically Hollywood started to get the message. Hence, Spiderman, Daredevil, Batman Year One, The Hulk, WonderWoman, ect.ect.
A Justice League movie can be done, but I agree with some of the other posters, I'd like to see Alan Burnett, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini brought on board to do it.
Or hey, I'm avaliable. ;)

There's an article about it in the new issue of Wizard magazine(the one with Spiderman on the cover). Ben Affleck is signed to play Daredevil while Elektra, Bullseye, & Kingpin (who are going to be in the movie) have not yet been cast. There's more info in the article, but I can't find it right now.

Actually further to the Daredevil movie, Michael Clarke Duncan is signed as the Kingpin, and the chick from Alias is Electra.

I hope everyone here knows about teh JLA TV series that was going to run on ABC a fe years ago.

The only character/actor I know from teh show was David Ogden Steirs as the Martian Manhunter (Yeah He's that guy that played Major Charles Emmerson Winchester on M*A*S*H)

I've seen some bootleggs of teh pilot floating around cons and such (Along with the Fantastic Four movie) and I'm gonig to try to pick it up this year at the Pittsburgh Comicon
