boy I'm fast..this was just posted a second ago on the newspage. :D
Well, it's official...Birds of Prey was picked up by WB. And according to the news post (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19047):
The show will hiughlight the Oracle and Huntress character, although the television counterparts will differ from the comic versions.
that does suck..ah well.

I can't really say the show'll be good. I mean, the show takes place five year after Batman exiles himself...un-hunh... The show will no doubt be better than Mutant X, but I'm not completely sure it'll be good, really good...

First of all...how many people honestly belives that Batman would Exile himself? He dedicated his life to saving others, and he just ups and leaves?
Then we have the NO costumes. And The Huntress is Bruce and Selina's daughter?
I just don't know. They better get freak'n GOOD LOOKING women to play Babara and the Huntress.
that, in my mind might be the only thing that will save the show for at least one season....
With Smallville I can see the fact that there are no costumes. But I can't see it with Birds of Prey ....
Batman needs a good show on the air. But it needs to be about him. Or at least a Robin or Nightwing show...

Howdy,
I don't know...it seems to me that Birds of Prey is only a Batman book because it occurs in Gotham City. Batman himself almost never shows up in it, and the first story arcs didn't involve him at all. Furthermore, the early issues struck me as being more like Mission: Impossible/The Saint-style spy thriller stories (I mean the TV shows by those names, not the execrable movies) than the usual superheroes-in-spandex thing. Barb obviously isn't in costume, and the Black Canary's new outfit is just a spin on the Emma Peel catsuit, only more practical. I could easily see a Huntress outfit that's more of an urban combat suit/body armor than her current costume.
That doesn't mean the show won't suck (it is on the WB after all =8^), but neither the lack of Batman nor the lack of costume HAVE to make it a bad show. Smallville is nothing without the Superman mythos behind it. It seems to me that BoP doesn't have to involve Batman at all.
Besides, I can completely picture a scenario where Batman WOULD exile himself from Gotham: in his last confrontation with the Joker, he crossed the line and killed him outright.

No doubt Smallville did so well to start off because everyone knows about Superman. But how many people know about the Huntress and the Oracle? Unless this show is truly well written, I see a flop on the horizon.

it is true that Batman doesn't hardley make it into the BOP title. However, he is there and not in exile. They have also said that the Joker is locked away after his battle with Batman.
It just does not seem right. What about Nightwing? Robin? They appear in the BOP book.
If your going to make a show from a comic, do it right. And from what we have heard, the show will not be like the comic except for the name and the characters...
