I noticed that some people have seen the Wii as high as $650, and I have seen them as $250. When I first saw the $650 price tag on the Walmart website I panicked, thinking "oh crap! how long do I have to save up?" But then I saw it as $250 at the Walmart over here. Turns out the higher price was for a "special customer bundle" that included extra stuff.
So, for those of you that originally thought the Wii was $650, no worries! Unless you WANT the special customer bundle.

Someone, somewhere, at some point actually thought the Wii's MSRP was $650?

So...what's all in the bundle for it to be worth $650?

Um... people don't know the prices of all consoles off the top of their heads?

I thought $650 sounded a little much. It says here it's actually $450. (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5303671)

Oh great, the site is under maintenance right when I decide to check that out for myself.
Anyway, I had to accept a $300 bundle since they were offering Sonic and the Secret Rings with it. At least I was able to return the game to the store later on though, since I didn't really want that.

There was a Wii Play, 2 regular Wii games, and a 2 GB memory card for it.

I thought this was going to be about a Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy game for the Wii. Well, actually that's bizarrely unlikely, but I was secretly hoping. Imagine using the Wiimote to make a pan-galactic gargleblaster.

My local Futureshop had the Wii for $650 or somewhere around that price a month or so back, and since they only had 8 consoles in stock, they weren't allowing them to be sold seperately unless they were sold with the bundle.
Surprisingly, I checked back later and found that they were all sold out.

Bundles are awesome. Too bad I can't afford any of the next-gen systems.

Yeah you must not pay much attention to videogame news if you didn't already know that the MSRP for the Wii was $250.

For the longest time, I assumed it was just $200... >.>

well, you were closer than $650 anyway
if you go to the walmart.com website (a place i was checking feverently when trying to find a wii for sale) they specifically state the bundle costs $650 and the system itself is $250 and that the system is always out of stock

and that the system is always out of stock
Which is why I just went with the PSP.
I am doomed to always buying systems and handhelds years later. Refusal to purchase things online really cripples a man...
