Do you mean will they ever make a live action or big budget animated movie? Depends, I guess. If they do live action with a CG Sonic and human characters, I hope it don't look as funky as the cutscenes on the new Sonic game.

The only movie Sonic ever got with the 60 minute anime that ADV put out some time back. Now if Sonic got a new movie, i'd like to see it animated.

A full blown Sonic movie seems unlikely right now. Maybe someday though....

I did have an idea for a plot for a Sonic movie once upon a time though:
The old gang had not seen each other for some time since the apparent death of Eggman (The opening sequence would be Sonic and Eggman's "final battle"). Now they are getting back together for some reason (Just a general reunion or maybe something like Sonic n' Amy's wedding? That would make some of those furries happy.). Anyway, we would find out what they had all been up too since they had last seen each other. Then, of course, it would appear that Eggman has returned! I would keep the audience guessing as to the villain's true identity until the final act: Is it really Eggman? Is it Metal Sonic posing as Eggman again? (like in "Sonic Heroes") Is it somebody else? Eggman and the other human characters would be live actors and Sonic and co. would be CGI.

Main heroes: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Blaze, Cream, The Chaotix

Main villains: Eggman, Metal Sonic, Shadow, Rouge (well, Rouge is the anti-hero/wild card in all of this)

Sonic's never been in a big screen production. Ever. What you saw could have been any number of 90s animated productions.

You must be thinking of the Sonic anime "movie" that ADV released. It's not based on SatAM, but the American version does change the name of Eggman's city to Robotropolis.

Excuse me for a minute while I correct everyone on this "movie".

While you may call this a movie, it is NOT A MOVIE. The animation that you guys are referring to is the Two Episode OVA (Original Video Animation) that was released in japan in 1996. They were called: Journey to Eggman Land and Sonic VS. Metal Sonic.

When ADV brought it here, they basically merged both episodes into a movie. (Similar to what ADV did with the Kenshin OVAs.) This version was either released late 1998 or early 1999 in the US. I can't remember the exact date.

Regardless, Sonic has NOT EVER had a movie. The "movie" you guys are thinking of is an OVA. Not a movie, an OVA.

No it won't, I'm afraid, since you're writing a piece of fiction containing a licensed property without the consent of the rightsholder, plus the fact that you don't work for an animation studio or any other creative body that would otherwise deal with the production and/or distribution of any sort of theatrical release. Both of those would have to be true for your proposal to become reality, in addition to the powers that control Sonic actually approving your proposal, and in the immediate future, I forsee none of those.

There's a fanfiction forum several levels down, however.
