This is the talkback thread for ADV and Propeller Team Up For New UK Anime Block (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=16923).

Very interesting. Never thought Eva would get a second TV airing here.

Elfen Lied's mentioning surprises me more. Holy crap. How is THAT gonna get aired?

I hope you guys enjoy Guyver and Evangelion. Whoa. Nice lineup overall. Now if ADV could only do such a thing over here in the States. . .

By not being a station in the United States. Unlike in the US, the British watershed actually means something. Granted, it's not going to do much to improve the image of anime in the UK, since it falls into the basic stereotypes that they've been unable to escape from for decades.

Well, this totaly blindsided me. But totaly fails for being a re-air plus a show that will not help the image of anime, and not a very good one at that, you know your in trouble when the webcomic about the luckless second wheel geting totaly emotionaly Hundred Thunder Crack Fist'd.
Adv, for gods sake, you have Mahromantic, GadGuard, DaiGard and a whole bunch of other shows that blow the roof off of Elfin Lied...gah.

It's possible that the anime you have mentioned before hand ADV UK probably don't have the TV rights.

Elfen Lied is a good show. And yes, it does have OMG TITZ AND TENTICLEZ (at points) but it has a surprisingly deep and mature storyline.

In fact the incest overtones worry me more than the boobs and blood....

But whatever - you never seem to think of anything being good do you? The last good thing in your mind must of being "crappy" MVM losing their deal with FUNimation

Anyway, its a pretty good line up. Coyote Ragtime Show is just a great big heap o fun, Evangelion is good even if its overrated, Elfen Lied i talked about up there and a before the dvd release showing of Guyver.

They're cousins. One of the States' most popular presidents married his cousin (FDR, anyone?) The cousin-love doesn't bother me all that much compared to some of the really graphic deaths on the show and rampant, unneeded fan service.

But it has a good storyline nevertheless, and an intelligent and mature one at that, if one delves deeper below the fan service.

I am sure that Lied will get censored big time anyway. The '****' will get covered up, the blood repainted, and generally cleaned up enough for an 'R' rating (dunno the UK equivalent, sorry  )

It won't be censored at all it's after 9pm. Our watershed rules are different from yours.

After 9pm in the UK you allowed to say **** and show as much nudity as you want. I can assure you this won't be cut at all.

Yeah; all the DVDs were uncut and they were only rated 15 (as opposed to 18, which is the highest rating that anything remotely mainstream can get).

OK, you clearly don't know anything about British TV.

Christ, I thought Lied was screwed up but not on that level too. It's going to be all fun once News of the world get a load, mature storyline or not,
Honestly? I'm supprised they havn't caught onto and made BoBoBo Bo-Bobo to be the harelding of Satan incarnate yet.

And yes, MVM geting a coperate spanking by Narve was the second coming of buddy christ, thanks for asking. (I'd like to think that Volumes for £11 on play.com to be a good thing and anything that gets Conan onto our shores quicker is a very very good thing).

Finaly, Actauly upon seeing Coyote geting air time, that makes the quickest turnaround time as far as Japanese TV to UK TV in the histroy of ever. Helps that the show's fun too.

To be fair, they are dismemberment tentacles, not sexual violation tentacles.

I'm surprised it made it to the UK though since it's so, so violent, and since even Paranoia Agent was edited.

The BBFC only really kicks up a stink about violence if it's either deemed "imitable" (Which is what Paranoia Agent - along with Ren and Stimpy and even Mulan - were cut for) or sexual (hence why Urotsukidoji 4 was rejected outright).

I've never seen Elfen Lied - does it fall into either of those categories? From the sound of the "dismemberment tentacles", I guess "imitable" is out...

They still charge an ungodly amount of money for thier services and it's illegal to stock videos sans rating.

I've never even heard of Propeller TV. Another stereotype of anime in the UK fulfilled then: relegated to the darkest, deepest corners of the Sky Digibox away from the prying searchlight of the Daily Mail...or any sort of audience rating.

I remember waking up on weekend mornings to be treated with Evangelion and Gasaraki on the Sci Fi Channel. No edits then, if I recall. Since this is post-watershed there should definitely be no edits now. I do so love British telly and its fond late night relationship with breasts and the word 'f***'. Like HBO except cosier.

I agree this certainly won't help the 'Manga Films=teh hardcore' stereotype that's haunted it since the early '90s. Can't they at least try these days? It's been nearly twenty years! I was still a nipper when I was acquiring Akira and The Guyver on mail order and wondering how the heck Urotsukidoji was pronounced.

Hopefully if all goes well it'll open the door to a wider range of anime. ADV have been one of the few companies who really look out for UK fans and try to attract new viewers, so I'm confident they have at least some idea of how to go about this venture. They're certainly smarter then Manga, who still haven't figured out you need to stop promoting this animation like it's video nasties.

I call it the "Wardrobe of the North Star" rule.
