in the simpsons eppy with bleeding gums' death, mufasa from the lion king confuses the name simba with kimba, the title character from which the lion king was made!

Kimba was created by the creator of Astroboy. The premise of "Kimba" is the same thing with "The Lion King".

The Lion King was not based on anything and was an original story, lest anyone confuse this coincidence for anything more.

Way too many similarities for me to believe that. It had to have been influenced by Kimba.

it's obvious once you know kimba's story. TLK's a rip-off, but still good.

Are you guys aware that it took a long time for the story of The Lion King to develop? It evolved from its own early stages; not other people's work. People claim it's exactly like Hamlet too, but I can guarantee it wasn't based on that either. Big or small, coincidences exist.

And it did bring awareness of Kimba to justify home entertainment releases.

Name-wise, it's explainable. Kimba is drawn from the same swahili word for lion that Simba was named after. Story-wise, I'm not too familiar with it, but when it's public domain things are considered homage. With copyrighted works, it's considered different. In a lot of ways, it's easier to parody than pay homage to something of this sort.

Actually, that comes from Solomon in Ecclesiasties. Aristotle was ripping it off from him!
