My faith in humanity has been restored! It seems (most) people are indeed capable of rational thinking after all.

It was retarded that they even had to appear in court.. The case should have been dropped as soon as it was realized that no hoax was intended.

"So what are you going to do now that the charges were dropped?"

"We're gonna wing on over to London and jam with the Stones."

I like how the article just had to get some shots at the movie in there, like that last line about it being a bomb.

For a movie like this, it was a huge success, and the target audience loved it. I don't see how that's a failure.

Turning a 6-figure budget into 5.5 million across only 877 theaters is pretty damn good. I'm guessing most companies would like a 700% profit margin.

People often don't seem to understand that the word "bomb" in relation to movies, is always relative.

Exactly. Superman Returns made over $200 million at the box office but it was technically a bomb because it cost $500 million. And as sad as it is, Grindhouse has made $25.5 million so far and it cost $67 million to make. So ATHF may have only made a profit of under $5 million, but that's millions that several movies that have come out in the past year didn't make.

A victory for reason and sanity over misunderstanding and blind hysteria.

I say case closed.

Not really...

Slashdot | Proposed Legislation Is Mooninite Fallout (http://politics.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/05/08/190220)

Ars Technica has a story about the Terrorist Hoax Improvements Act (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070508-mooninites-meet-the-terrorist-hoax-improvements-act.html), a bill introduced recently by the Senate. The bill aims to 'amend the federal criminal code to include a number of new clauses meant to up the ante on wasting government resources. The amendments include extensions to the prohibitions on the spread of false information and mailing threats, increases to maximum prison terms, and allowances for civil suits so that local and federal governments can attempt to recoup expenses related to an incident.'

This is undoubtedly a reaction to the Great Mooninite Scare of 2007 (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/31/2314214&tid=129).

I hate that they were even considering charges. Anyone who mistakes a lite brite for a bomb is a bloody idiot.
